Kevin Yim from Tucson, Arizona and Angel Serrano from Queens, New York are both currently 6-1 in the tournament. They’re each using a Deck that’s simple and pure. Yim is using a Trickstar Deck, untainted by any other card themes, while Serrano is using a pure Sky Striker Deck. It’s Trickstars versus Sky Strikers in this Round 8 Feature Match. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Yim opened up with Trickstar Light Stage, Scapegoat, Trickstar Reincarnation, Gozen Match, and Cyber Dragon.

He activated Light Stage and used its effect to add Trickstar Candina to his hand. Then he Normal Summoned Candina. He activated Candina’s effect, and Serrano Chained the effect of PSY-Framegear Gamma from his hand! He Special Summoned it from his hand alongside a PSY-Frame Driver from his Deck to negate Candina’s effect and destroy it. Yim Set 3 cards to his back row before passing, and Driver and Gamma were banished from the field in the End Phase.

Serrano drew a card and Yim flipped Trickstar Reincarnation; but Serrano negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Serrano activated Pot of Desires and banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. He activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero next and Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He activated Area Zero’s effect targeting Raye, and then Chained the effect of Raye to Tribute it and Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate from his Extra Deck. Serrano revealed Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and another Area Zero from the top of his Deck and added the Engage to his hand with Area Zero’s effect. Serrano activated Engage and used its effect to add a Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to his hand and then activated the Multirole. He activated Twin Twisters next, discarding Pot of Desires from his hand to target Yim’s face-down Scapegoat and Gozen Match. Yim Chained the Scapegoat to Special Summon 4 Sheep Tokens to his field. Serrano used Hayate to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari next, and used Kagari’s effect to return Engage from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated it to add Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base to his hand and then drew a card with Engage’s secondary effect. He equipped his Kagari with Hercules Base and then attacked a Sheep Token to destroy it. He drew a card thanks to Hercules Base, and then attacked another Sheep Token with Kagari to destroy it and draw another card. In Main Phase 2, Serrano used the effect of his Multirole to send Hercules Base to the Graveyard and then used Hercules Base’s effect to return Hayate from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck. Next, Serrano used Kagari to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and Set 2 cards to his back row. In the End Phase, he used Shizuku’s effect to add Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand. He then used the Widow Anchor to negate his Shizuku’s effect and used the Multirole’s effect to Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his field.

Yim activated his Light Stage’s effect to pin down one of Serrano’s back row cards and then banished Reincarnation from his Graveyard to try to Special Summon Candina; but Serrano Chained Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to banish the Candina. Next, Yim Link Summoned Link Spider by using a Sheep Token and Tributed the Spider to Summon Cyber Dragon. He sent the Cyber Dragon and Serrano’s Shizuku to the Graveyard to Summon Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon and attacked directly with it. In the End Phase, Yim activated Widow Anchor to negate the Megafleet’s effect and Set Hercules Base from his Graveyard with Multirole’s effect.

Serrano drew a card and then Set a card to his back row. He activated the effect of Area Zero by targeting his newly Set card. He added Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from the top of his Deck to his hand and destroyed his newly Set Terraforming. Then he used Multirole to send his face-down Twin Twisters to the Graveyard. He activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! next, adding Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand and drawing a card. Then he used another Engage to add Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to his hand and draw from his Deck once again. He activated Widow Anchor to gain control of Megafleet and then Normal Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He combined both monsters to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix and used its effect to discard Area Zero and destroy Light Stage. He attacked a Sheep Token with the Phoenix to destroy it and then Set Widow Anchor and Shark Cannon from his Graveyard in the End Phase with the effect of Multirole.

Yim drew a card and then Set Trickstar Lycoris.

Serrano activated Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to Special Summon Cyber Dragon from Yim’s Graveyard and then combined Phoenix with Cyber Dragon to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He activated its effect by discarding Gamma, sending Yim’s face-down monster back to his Deck. Knightmare Unicorn attacked directly, dropping Yim down to 5800 Life Points. In the End Phase, Serrano Set Engage from his Graveyard with Multirole.

Yim drew Infinite Impermanence and Set it.

Serrano flipped Engage and Yim negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Knightmare Unicorn attacked directly and then Yim Set another card to his back row.

Yim drew Eater of Millions. He banished 5 cards from his Extra Deck to Summon it to the field with 1500 ATK. He attacked Knightmare Unicorn with his Eater of Millions, and when Serrano flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Eater of Millions and cause it to crash into Knightmare Unicorn, Yim conceded.

Duel Two

Yim opened up Duel 2 with Terraforming, Inspector Boarder, Droll & Lock Bird, and 2 copies of Heavy Storm Duster. He activated the Terraforming to add Trickstar Light Stage to his hand and then activated the Light Stage to add Trickstar Candina to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect, but lost out to Serrano’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Yim Set 2 copies of Heavy Storm Duster before passing his turn.

Serrano entered his Battle Phase and activated Evenly Matched!

Yim banished Candina, Light Stage, and a Heavy Storm Duster from his field face-down and kept one Heavy Storm Duster on his field. In Main Phase 2, Serrano activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and then activated Area Zero. Play moved quickly in Main Phase 2, and after the exchange of a couple of cards between Duelists, Serrano ended his turn with a Raye on his field.

Yim drew another Droll & Lock Bird and then Normal Summoned Inspector Boarder. He attacked Raye with Inspector Boarder to destroy it and then passed his turn.

Serrano activated another Area Zero and then Set a monster. He used Area Zero’s effect targeting his monster, and added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from the top of his Deck to his hand with Area Zero, sending his face-down Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to the Graveyard in the process. He activated Engage to add Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to his hand and then drew a card from his Deck with its secondary effect.

Yim drew Eater of Millions and then attacked directly with Inspector Boarder, dropping Serrano down to 5500 Life Points.

Serrano activated Afterburners to destroy Inspector Boarder and then Set a card to his back row. He used Area Zero to target his newly Set card and add a Shark Cannon from the top of his Deck to his hand before sending the newly Set Terraforming to the Graveyard. Yim discarded Droll & Lock Bird, and Serrano Chained the effect of the Gamma in his hand! He Special Summoned it alongside a Driver and Tuned his monsters together to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega! He used its effect to banish it from the Duel and take a card out of Yim’s hand.

The cards Yim drew over his next two turns were no help, and in the blink of an eye, Serrano was able to take the Duel thanks to PSY-Framelord Omega and his Sky Striker cards!
