200th YCS Columbus: Top 16 Feature Match – Luciano Greco vs. Justin Przymierski
Luciano Greco from Canada is the last Trickstar Duelist remaining in the tournament. Now, he’s facing off against Justin Przymierski from Toledo, Ohio and his Sky Striker Deck! Sky Strikers were a dominating force in the tournament this weekend, and Justin Przymierski – like many other competing Duelists – enjoyed tremendous success with them under the new Forbidden & Limited List. Will Sky Strikers carry Przymierski to the Top 8, or will Greco be able to defeat Przymierski and make it to the Top 8 with his Trickstars? It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Greco opened up with Trickstar Lilybell, Droll & Lock Bird, Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners!, Called by the Grave, and Trickstar Light Stage.
He activated Light Stage and used its effect to add Trickstar Candina to his hand and then Summoned Candina. He activated its effect, but Przymierski Chained the effect of PSY-Framegear Gamma from his hand to negate the effect, Special Summon Gamma and PSY-Frame Driver, and destroy Candina. Greco Set Called by the Grave and then both PSY-Frame monsters were banished in the End Phase.
Przymierski Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and then attacked directly with it. Next, he Tributed Raye to activate its effect, and Greco Chained Called by the Grave to negate the effect and banish Raye! Przymierski Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.
Greco drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and then used Light Stage to target Przymierski’s face-down Shared Ride, which he Chained. Greco passed his turn with a clear field.
Przymierski drew a card and passed.
Greco activated another Light Stage and tried to use its effect to search his Deck, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Then he used Light Stage’s other effect to target Przymierski’s face-down Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon, which he Chained to banish Candina from the Graveyard.
Przymierski drew a card and passed.
Greco drew Scapegoat and Set it.
Przymierski activated Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! to target the face-down Scapegoat, and Greco Chained it to Special Summon 4 Sheep Tokens! Przymierski passed his turn with a clear field!
Greco drew Trickstar Lycoris! He Link Summoned Link Spider by using a Sheep Token as a Link Material and then combined 2 more Sheep Tokens to Summon Reprodocus. He used its effect to make Link Spider a Dinosaur and then combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon Summon Sorceress. Next, he used Sorceress’s effect to Special Summon Lilybell to Przymierski’s field. He tried using Sorceress’s other effect to Special Summon a monster from his Deck, but Sorceress was destroyed by Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit instead! Greco Link Summoned Linkuriboh and then passed his turn.
Przymierski activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and used its effect to add Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to his hand and send Lilybell to the Graveyard. He activated Multirole next, and then Set a card to his back row. He used Multirole’s effect to send Area Zero to the Graveyard, and when he tried to Special Summon a Sky Striker from his Deck with Area Zero’s effect, Greco Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand to negate it!
Greco used his Light Stage to target Przymierski’s face-down Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster, which he Chained Targeting Linkuriboh. Greco activated Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! next, targeting Linkuriboh, but then realized it was unaffected by card effects, so he couldn’t destroy the Linkuriboh to take down Multirole with its secondary effect! He Normal Summoned Lycoris next, and then attacked directly with Lycoris and Linkuriboh, bringing Przymierski down to 5900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Greco combined Lycoris with Linkuriboh to Summon Knightmare Phoenix and used its effect to discard Droll & Lock Bird and destroy Multirole.
Przymierski drew a card and passed.
Greco drew a card and attacked directly with Phoenix. He Set Twin Twisters to his back row and passed.
Przymierski activated Twin Twisters by discarding Gamma, destroying the face-down Twin Twisters on Greco’s field along with his Light Stage.
Greco drew Trickstar Reincarnation. He attacked directly with Knightmare Phoenix and then Set the Reincarnation.
Przymierski activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Raye to his hand and draw a card. Greco tried to use Reincarnation next, but Przymierski stopped it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Greco used Droll & Lock Bird anyway, preventing Przymierski from adding more cards from his Deck to the hand during the turn. Przymierski Summoned Raye and used it to Link Summon Kagari. He used Kagari’s effect to add Shark Cannon from his Graveyard to his hand and then activated Multirole. He attacked Knightmare Phoenix with Kagari to destroy it, dropping Greco to 6200 Life Points. Przymierski Set a card to his back row in Main Phase 2 and then used Kagari as a Link Material to Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. In the End Phase, Greco banished Reincarnation from his Graveyard to Special Summon Lilybell.
Greco drew Reincarnation and then attacked directly with Lilybell. Przymierski flipped Shark Cannon to banish Lycoris from the Graveyard, and Lilybell inflicted 0 points of damage since Przymierski had 8 Spells in his Graveyard with Shizuku on his field. Greco Set the Reincarnation in Main Phase 2, and Przymierski Set Jamming Waves from his Graveyard in the End Phase with Multirole.
Przymierski activated Jamming Waves to destroy the face-down Reincarnation and the Lilybell and then used Shizuku to Link Summon Kagari. He returned Engage to his hand with Kagari and then activated it to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand and draw a card. He activated Pot of Desires next, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. He attacked directly with Kagari, inflicting 2300 points of damage to Greco and dropping him down to 3900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he Link Summoned Shizuku by using Kagari as a Link Material and Set a card to his back row. In his End Phase, he Set Shark Cannon from his Graveyard with Multirole and used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand.
Greco drew Trickstar Light Stage and activated it, but lost out on the search to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He activated Light Stage targeting Przymierski’s face-down Shark Cannon next, and in the End Phase, Przymierski used the Shark Cannon to try to banish Lilybell; but Greco banished Reincarnation to Special Summon the Lilybell to the field.
Przymierski activated Widow Anchor to take control of Lilybell and then used Shizuku to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He activated Area Zero next, and used its effect to add Raye to his hand and send Lilybell to the Graveyard. He activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token and then used the Token as a Link Material to Summon Kagari. He Normal Summoned Raye next, and direct attacks from Raye, Kagari, and Hayate wiped out all 3900 of Greco’s Life Points!
Justin Przymierski wins the first Duel with his Sky Strikers and is one win away from knocking Trickstars out of the tournament!
Duel Two
Greco opened up Duel 2 with Trickstar Light Stage, Twin Twisters, Scapegoat, and 2 copies of Trickstar Reincarnation. He activated Light Stage to add Trickstar Candina from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it. He activated its effect, but lost out to Przymierski’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he Set Scapegoat, a Reincarnation, and a Twin Twisters.
Przymierski Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and then used Twin Twisters! He discarded Shark Cannon and targeted a face-down Reincarnation and Twin Twisters to destroy them. Then, he used Raye to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and Set a card to his back row. In his End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand with Shizuku’s effect. Also in the End Phase, Greco flipped Scapegoat and Special Summoned 4 Sheep Tokens!
Greco drew Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and then used Light Stage to pin down the one card in Przymierski’s back row. He used a Token to Link Summon Link Spider next, and then used another Token to Link Summon Linkuriboh. He combined the Linkuriboh with a Token to Summon Knightmare Phoenix and activated its effect by discarding Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, but lost out on its effect to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Greco Tributed a Token to Special Summon Linkuriboh from his Graveyard and then Link Summoned Borreload Dragon! He attacked Shizuku with Borreload to take control of it and then attacked directly with Shizuku and Candina. He used Shizuku to Link Summon Kagari in Main Phase 2 and used Kagari to return Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Graveyard to his hand. He then used Kagari to Link Summon Shizuku and Set Trickstar Reincarnation. In his End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand with Shizuku. Przymierski flipped Called by the Grave to banish Linkuriboh from the Graveyard since the Called by the Grave was going to be sent to the Graveyard by Light Stage in the End Phase.
Przymierski drew a card and Greco flipped Trickstar Reincarnation to banish Przymierski’s hand of 2 cards and force him to draw 2 new cards. With those 2 new cards being no help to him, he quickly conceded and the Match pressed on to a third and final Duel!
Duel Three
Przymierski started off Duel 3 by activating Reinforcement of the Army to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand.
He activated Pot of Desires next, but when he banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down, Greco discarded Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to stop him from drawing 2 cards. Przymierski Summoned Raye next, and used it to Link Summon Shizuku. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand with Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase.
Greco drew a card and then had Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, 2 copies of Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and 2 Twin Twisters in his hand. He activated a Twin Twisters, declaring that he was going to discard Twin Twisters to do so. He accidentally dropped an Engage from his hand instead, but quickly corrected it by discarding the Twin Twisters he originally intended to discard; but it was too late! He targeted a Widow Anchor and Mind Crush with the Twin Twisters, and Greco used the Mind Crush! Knowing that Greco had at least 1 Engage in his hand, he named Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and Greco discarded two copies! Greco activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token, used the Token to Summon Kagari, and used Kagari to add an Engage back to his hand. He used Engage to add Widow Anchor to his hand and draw Droll & Lock Bird and then took control of Shizuku with Widow Anchor. He attacked directly with Kagari and Shizuku and then combined both monsters into Knightmare Phoenix in Main Phase 2.
Przymierski activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye to his hand and draw a card, prompting Greco to discard Droll & Lock Bird; but Przymierski negated it with PSY-Framegear Gamma and Special Summoned Gamma to the field along with a Driver! Przymierski Summoned a Raye next, and then used Pot of Desires to banish the top 10 cards of his Deck and draw 2 cards. He attacked Phoenix with Driver to destroy it and then attacked directly with Gamma and Raye to drop Greco down to 4900 Life Points. He Tributed Raye in the Battle Phase to Summon Kagari and used Kagari’s effect to return Widow Anchor to his hand. He attacked directly with Kagari to drop Greco down to 3000 Life Points and then Link Summoned Hayate by using Kagari as a Link Material in Main Phase 2. He Tuned Gamma with Driver to Summon PSY-Framelord Omega next and then Set 2 cards to his back row.
Greco drew a card and conceded, completely devastated by the Mind Crush that stripped 2 copies of Engage from his hand.
