200th YCS Columbus: Top 32 Feature Match – Nicholas Scarangella vs. Daniel Ramirez

September 23rd, 2018

Nicholas Scarangella from Harrington Park, New Jersey is the last remaining Cyber Dragon Duelist in the tournament. He finished the Swiss Rounds with a 9-2-1 record, earning a spot in the Top 64. Daniel Ramirez from Seattle, Washington finished the Swiss Rounds with a 10-2 record, also making the Top 64 cut. Ramirez used a DARK Gouki Deck throughout the tournament. Now, Scarangella’s Cyber Dragons are up against Ramirez’s Gouki monsters in this Match that will determine which Duelist advances to the Top 16. It’s DARK versus LIGHT in this Top 32 Feature Match. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Scarangella won the die roll but chose to go second.

Ramirez started off the Match by Normal Summoning Gouki Suprex and used its effect to Special Summon Gouki Headbatt to his field.

He combined both to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights and used the effects of Isolde and both Goukis to add Necro Gardna, Gouki Octostretch, and Gouki Rematch to his hand. He then used Isolde’s effect to send 3 Equip Spell Cards from his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summon Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin from his Deck. He used the Dolphin’s effect, revealing Scarangella’s hand of Cyber Dragon, Twin Twisters, Called by the Grave, and 2 copies of Cyber Repair Plant. Ramirez selected Cyber Dragon from the hand, but since his monsters were both weaker than it, Ramirez couldn’t force Scarangella to discard it and lost 500 Life Points to Aqua Dolphin’s effect. Ramirez Link Summoned Summon Sorceress next, and after a series of plays including the Link Summon of Firewall Dragon and the activation of its effect several times, he had Extra Linked! He then managed to Summon another Aqua Dolphin and use its effect to finally discard Cyber Dragon from Scarangella’s hand, and then he Link Summoned Topologic Gumblar Dragon and used its effect to force Scarangella to discard Twin Twisters and Called by the Grave.

Scarangella drew Galaxy Soldier, and then Ramirez Special Summoned Linkuriboh from his Graveyard with its Quick Effect. Scarangella promptly conceded with only 3 cards in his hand and facing down Ramirez’s Extra Linked field.

Daniel Ramirez wins the first Duel by Extra Linking on his first turn and using the effects of Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin and Topologic Gumblar Dragon!

Duel Two

Scarangella chose to go first in Duel 2 and opened up with Cyber Dragon, Cyber Dragon Vier, Droll & Lock Bird, Infinite Impermanence, and Rivalry of Warlords.

He Set Infinite Impermanence and Rivalry and then ended his turn.

Ramirez activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand, prompting Scarangella to send Droll & Lock Bird to his Graveyard to activate its effect. Ramirez activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token to the field anyway, and then Normal Summoned Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin. He equipped it with Noble Arms – Arfeudutyr and then used Arfeudutyr to try to destroy Scarangella’s face-down Infinite Impermanence; but Scarangella Chained it to negate Aqua Dolphin’s effect. Next, Ramirez discarded Malicious to activate Aqua Dolphin’s effect even though the effect was negated, and banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another from his Deck. He combined Malicious with Aqua Dolphin to Link Summon Isolde and equipped the Isolde with the Arfeudutyr that was sent to the Graveyard in the Link Summon. He used Arfeudutyr to try to destroy Scarangella’s face-down Rivalry, but Scarangella Chained it. Ramirez activated Isolde’s effect by sending Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade and Living Fossil from his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Octostretch. He banished a Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another from his Deck next, and then activated Foolish Burial to send The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from his Deck to his Graveyard. Ramirez attacked directly with Headbatt, Isolde, and Malicious, dropping Scarangella down to 5300 Life Points.

Scarangella drew another Droll & Lock Bird and then Special Summoned Cyber Dragon from his hand.  He Chained the effect of the Vier in his hand to Special Summon it to his field. Next, he fused Vier with Isolde to Special Summon Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon with 2400 ATK, and attacked Malicious with Megafleet to destroy it. Cyber Dragon attacked and destroyed Headbatt next, dropping Ramirez down to 5100 Life Points. Ramirez added Gouki Suprex to his hand with the effect of Headbatt.

Ramirez banished Silent Boots from his Graveyard to add The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine to his hand and Scarangella sent Droll & Lock Bird from his hand to his Graveyard to activate its effect. Next, Ramirez Normal Summoned Suprex and used its effect to Special Summon Gouki Riscorpio. He returned the Phoenix Blade from his Graveyard to his hand by banishing 2 Warriors from his Graveyard and then equipped it to Riscorpio. He attacked Cyber Dragon with Riscorpio to destroy the Cyber Dragon in battle and then ended his turn.

Scarangella drew Galaxy Soldier. He attacked the Sky Striker Ace Token on Ramirez’s field to destroy it and then passed his turn.

Ramirez Normal Summoned Suprex and then attacked Megafleet with Riscorpio to destroy it. Both copies of Suprex attacked directly next, dropping Scarangella down to 3800 Life Points.

Scarangella drew Infinite Impermanence next turn and conceded, unable to survive another turn.
