200th YCS Columbus: Top 4 Feature Match – Adrian Gonzalez vs. Manav Dawar
Only 4 Duelists remain in the 200th YCS in Columbus, Ohio out of the 2774 that originally registered, and they’re about to battle it out for a spot in the Finals! In our written Top 4 Feature Match, Adrian Gonzalez from Harvey, Illinois is using his Altergeist Deck to Duel against Manav Dawar from Seattle, Washington and his Sky Strikers. One of these Duelists will advance to the Finals. The other will be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Dawar started off Duel 1 by activating Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and using its effect to add Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to his hand.
He activated Multirole and then Set Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to his back row. He used Multirole to send the Shark Cannon to the Graveyard and then activated Pot of Desires. He banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. Next, he activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones and Special Summoned a Sky Striker Ace Token to the field. He used the Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and activated Kagari’s effect to return Engage to his hand. He used Engage to add Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to his hand and then drew a card. He used Kagari as a Link Material to Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku next, and then Set 3 cards to his back row. In the End Phase, he Set Engage from his Graveyard with Multirole and added a Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Shizuku.
Gonzalez opened up Duel 1 with Altergeist Multifaker, Altergeist Silquitous, Altergeist Protocol, Solemn Warning, and 2 copies of Pot of Desires. He activated the Desires and banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw Personal Spoofing and Altergeist Meluseek. He Summoned the Meluseek and then entered his Battle Phase. Dawar flipped Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and took control of the Meluseek after negating its effect. Gonzalez Set Protocol, Warning, Spoofing, and Desires in Main Phase 2 and passed his turn.
Dawar drew a card and Gonzalez flipped Personal Spoofing. Gonzalez tried to Special Summon Multifaker from his hand next, but lost out to Dawar’s Solemn Strike! Gonzalez activated the effect of Spoofing to send Meluseek back to his Deck, and Dawar Chained Twin Twisters! He discarded a Desires to destroy the Spoofing as well as a face-down Protocol, and Gonzalez promptly conceded.

Duel Two
Gonzalez chose for Dawar to go first in Duel 2.
Dawar Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and used it to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set a card to his back row and then used Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.
Gonzalez opened up with Evenly Matched, Pot of Desires, Personal Spoofing, Solemn Strike, Altergeist Protocol, and Altergeist Meluseek. He Summoned Meluseek and attacked directly with it, sending Typhoon from Dawar’s field to his Graveyard with Meluseek’s effect. Next, Gonzalez activated Pot of Desires. He banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down, but lost out on the 2 cards when Dawar discarded Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Gonzalez Link Summoned Linkuriboh by using Meluseek as a Link Material next, and Gonzalez used Meluseek’s effect to add Altergeist Multifaker from his Deck to his hand. Gonzalez Set 4 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.
Dawar activated Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! to target Altergeist Protocol. He Chained the Protocol and then Chained Personal Spoofing as Chain Link 3. He used the Spoofing to send Protocol to the Deck and add Altergeist Marionetter to his hand. Dawar activated Engage next, using its effect to add Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster from his Deck to his hand. He used Shizuku to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and then attacked directly with it; but Gonzalez Tributed Linkuriboh to reduce the ATK of Hayate to 0. Hayate’s effect sent Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from Dawar’s Deck to his Graveyard and then in Main Phase 2, he used Hayate to try to Link Summon Kagari; but Gonzalez flipped Solemn Strike and negated its Summon by giving up 1500 Life Points! After it resolved, Dawar Special Summoned Multifaker from his hand and activated its effect. Dawar Chained Widow Anchor to take control of it and negate its effect! Next, Dawar Normal Summoned Raye and used it as a Link Material to Summon Shizuku. He Set a card to his back row and then entered his End Phase. He returned Multifaker to Gonzalez and used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to his hand.
Gonzalez drew Altergeist Protocol and then Summoned the Marionetter. He used its effect to Set Altergeist Manifestation from his Deck and then used Marionetter’s effect to swap the Multifaker on his field for the Meluseek in his Graveyard. He entered his Battle Phase and Dawar activated Eagle Booster, targeting Shizuku. Gonzalez Link Summoned Altergeist Hexstia in Main Phase 2 and added Marionetter from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Meluseek. He Set Protocol and passed.
Dawar drew a card and Gonzalez flipped Altergeist Manifestation in the Standby Phase. He Special Summoned Multifaker and used its effect to Special Summon Altergeist Silquitous linked to Hexstia. He used Silquitous’s effect to return Multifaker to his hand and Shizuku to the Extra Deck, and then, when Dawar used the effect of the Raye in his Graveyard to try to Special Summon it, Gonzalez Chained Altergeist Protocol and used its effect to send Hexstia to the Graveyard and negate Raye’s effect. Gonzalez used Hexstia’s effect to add Altergeist Manifestation from his Deck to his hand. Dawar Summoned Phantom Skyblaster and used its effect to Special Summon a Skyblaster Token to the field. He activated Area Zero next, and used its effect targeting the Skyblaster. He added a Multirole to his hand and sent the Skyblaster to the Graveyard. He activated Multirole and used its effect to send Area Zero to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Raye from his Deck with Area Zero’s effect and then used Raye to Link Summon Hayate. He attacked directly with Hayate, dropping Gonzalez down to 5000 Life Points. Dawar used Hayate’s effect to send a Multirole from his Deck to his Graveyard and then Link Summoned a Kagari in Main Phase 2 by using Hayate as a Link Material. He used Kagari’s effect to add an Engage from his Graveyard to his hand and then used Kagari as a Link Material to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He activated Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase to add another copy of Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.
Gonzalez drew Altergeist Meluseek and Normal Summoned it. He attacked directly with it, but its ATK was 0 due to Shizuku’s effect! In Main Phase 2, Gonzalez Link Summoned Hexstia and added Altergeist Manifestation from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Silquitous. He failed to find anything to add to his hand with Meluseek. Gonzalez Set 2 cards to his back row and passed his turn.
Dawar flipped Manifestation to Special Summon Hexstia and then Special Summoned Multifaker from his hand. He used its effect to Special Summon a Meluseek from his Deck in Defense Position. Dawar used Multirole’s effect to try to get rid of his Token, and Gonzalez activated the effect of a Hexstia to Tribute Multifaker and negate and destroy Multirole. Next, Dawar used Shizuku as a Link Material to Summon Kagari, and activated its effect to add Multirole back to his hand. He activated it, but the other Hexstia negated it by Tributing the first Hexstia. He used the Tributed Hexstia’s effect to grab another Trap Card and then Dawar combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He activated its effect by discarding Widow Anchor and targeted Gonzalez’s face-down Manifestation. Gonzalez Chained Protocol and sent Meluseek to the Graveyard to negate the effect of Phoenix and destroy it. Next, Gonzalez flipped Manifestation and used its effect to Special Summon Silquitous back to his field. Dawar activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! next, and Gonzalez negated it with Hexstia, Tributing Silquitous. He used Silquitous’s effect to return Manifestation to his hand. Dawar activated another Engage to add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand and draw a card. He activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Toke and used the Token to Special Summon Shizuku. He attacked Hexstia with Shizuku to destroy it in battle and drop Gonzalez down to 3900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Dawar Set a card to his back row. In his End Phase, he added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Shizuku.
Gonzalez drew Solemn Strike and then Summoned Marionetter. He activated its effect to Set an Altergeist Protocol from his Deck and then tried to use Marionetter’s effect; but Dawar Chained Twin Twisters to destroy two Protocols. Gonzalez Set the rest of his hand to his back row and passed his turn.
Dawar drew a card and Gonzalez flipped another Manifestation to Special Summon Silquitous. He used Silquitous’s effect to return Manifestation from his field to his hand and return Shizuku to the Extra Deck. Silquitous was destroyed and its effect added another Trap to Gonzalez’s hand. Dawar Set a card to his back row.

Dawar passed his turn, and when Gonzalez activated Manifestation in the End Phase to try to Special Summon Marionetter, Dawar Chained Shark Cannon to Special Summon it.
Gonzalez Set a Manifestation and passed.
Dawar Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Gonzalez flipped Manifestation to Special Summon Silquitous. He used its effect to return the Marionetter to his hand and Gonzalez finally conceded with just under 13 minutes left in the round.
After a long and drawn out Duel 2, Adrian Gonzalez takes the victory and pushes the Match to a third and final Duel!
Duel Three
Dawar started off Duel 3 by activating Engage to add Raye to his hand. He Summoned it and used it to Link Summon Kagari and then used Kagari to add Engage back to his hand. He used Kagari to Link Summon Shizuku and then Set 2 cards to his back row. In the End Phase, he tried using Shizuku’s effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. Gonzalez Special Summoned Multifaker from his hand after it resolved, and used Multifaker’s effect to Special Summon Meluseek from his Deck.
Gonzalez drew a card and then had Personal Spoofing, Altergeist Meluseek, Shared Ride, and Multifaker in his hand.
He combined his monsters to Summon Altergeist Hexstia and used Meluseek’s effect to add Marionetter to his hand. He Summoned it and used its effect. When Dawar Chained Infinite Impermanence, Gonzalez Chained Hexstia’s effect to Tribute Marionetter and negate it. He Set Manifestation from his Deck when the Marionetter’s effect resolved. Gonzalez Set Spoofing and Shared Ride to his back row and then ended his turn. In the End Phase, Dawar flipped Twin Twisters and discarded Engage to destroy Gonzalez’s face-down Manifestation and Spoofing.
Dawar used Shizuku to Link Summon Kagari and used its effect to return Engage to his hand. When Gonzalez Chained Shared Ride, Dawar negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Dawar activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Hornet Drones to his hand and then activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token. He Summoned Phantom Skyblaster next, and used its effect to Special Summon 3 more Tokens to the field! He combined Kagari with a Skyblaster Token to Link Summon Space Insulator and then Link Summoned Link Spider. He Link Summoned Borrelsword Dragon next, and then used his Sky Striker Ace Token to Link Summon Hayate. He attacked Hexstia with Hayate, destroying both monsters in battle, and then he used the effect of Raye to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. Raye and the Skyblaster Token attacked directly, dropping Gonzalez down to 6000 Life Points, and then Borrelsword Dragon attacked directly twice by using its effect to switch the Skyblaster Token into Defense Position. That wiped out Gonzalez’s last 6000 Life Points!
