200th YCS Mexico City: Round 4 Feature Match – Jose Ventura vs. Hector Perez

September 23rd, 2018

We have two talented Duelists here for this Round 4 Feature Match! Jose Ventura, from here in Mexico City, made the top cut of YCS Mexico City the last time it was here in 2014. He’s using a True Draco Deck today, packed with a ton of ways to make things difficult for his opponents. He’s up against a bounty Duelist, Chile’s YCS Champion Hector Perez! Perez is using pure Sky Strikers today. We’ll see how he adapts to Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones now being Limited.

Duel 1

Perez started the Duel with a hand of Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, He started with Foolish Burial Goods, sending Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard. He played Upstart Goblin to draw another Foolish Burial Goods. He played Area Zero, using its effect on itself. He revealed no Sky Striker cards. He then returned Metalfoes Fusion to the Deck to draw Droll & Lock Bird.

Ventura played Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, using it to play Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. Disciples destroyed Area Zero, which activated to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Raye. Ventura responded with Ignis Heat’s effect, getting True Draco Heritage on the field. Ventura then used Terraforming to get Dragonic Diagram, and Perez activated Droll & Lock Bird. Ignis Heat attacked Raye, and Perez used it to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. Kagari returned Area Zero to Perez’s hand. Ignis Heat continued its attack, destroying Kagari in battle, and Perez Special Summoned Raye from the Graveyard. in Main Phase 2, Ventura Set one back row card and activated Dragonic Diagram.

Perez drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He played Foolish Burial Goods to send Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to the Graveyard, and Ventura used Ignis Heat to get Disciples of the True Dracophoenix in his hand. Perez played Area Zero, using its effect on Raye, and Chained Raye’s effect to Special Summon Kagari. Area Zero resolved, putting Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor in Perez’s hand. Kagari then returned Engage to his hand as well. He had three spells in his Graveyard now, so all his Sky Striker spells would be powered up! He played Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners!, and Ventura flipped True Draco Apocalypse in response. He used it to Tribute Summon Metaltron XII, the True Dracombatant! Apocalypse destroyed Kagari, and Perez Special Summoned Raye from the Graveyard. He used Raye to play Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and attacked directly, using its effect to send Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to the Graveyard. He played Engage in Main Phase 2, searching for Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! and drawing Metalfoes Fusion. He used Hayate to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku, then Set Metalfoes Fusion, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Jamming Waves. In the End Phase, Shizuku added Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to his hand.

Ventura played Disciples, returning three of his True Draco cards to the Deck so he could draw a card. He activated Diagram, but lost it to Perez’s Mystical Space Typhoon. He Set two cards in his back row and moved to the Battle Phase. Metaltron wiped out Shizuku, and Perez returned Raye to the field yet again. He used its effect to play another Shizuku, and in the End Phase he added Engage to his hand.

He drew Ash Blossom, and Ventura flipped Lose 1 Turn. Perez played Multirole, and used its effect on his Set Metalfoes Fusion. Ventura responded by flipping Gozen Match. Perez played Engage to get Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base and drew Shared Ride. He used Metalfoes Fusion’s effect in the Graveyard, and drew Engage! He played it to search out Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and draw Droll & Lock Bird. He equipped Shizuku with Hercules Base, then used Area Zero’s effect on the Base – but he revealed no Sky Striker cards. He had no way through Ventura’s incredible field! He passed the turn, using Multirole to Set Engage and Afterburners.

Ventura Set a backrow card. He sent Metaltron to destroy Shizuku in battle. Ventura played Card of Demise, and Perez negated it with Ash Blossom.

Perez drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He flipped Jamming Waves to destroy a Set Evenly Matched, but still couldn’t destroy Metaltron. Mystical Space Typhoon took out Gozen Match next, then he flipped Engage. He added Raye to his hand, and drew Area Zero. He Normal Summoned Raye, using Area Zero on it, and Chained Raye’s effect to Special Summon Shizuku. Area Zero failed once again, however. He Set Shark Cannon and used Multirole to send it to the Graveyard. He then Set Widow Anchor and Shared Ride.

Metaltron attacked again, destroying Shizuku. Perez brought Raye back to the field. He was doing a good job of not dying, but struggling to take care of the threat of Metaltron. It was only a matter of time before Ventura would get another monster on the field and start doing some real damage. Perez used Raye to play Kagari.

Perez drew another Raye. He played his second Area Zero, then flipped Shared Ride. He used Area Zero on his Set Afterburners, adding Widow Anchor to his hand. The Afterburners was banished since it had been Set by Multirole. He flipped up Widow Anchor, then played his second Widow Anchor. Now with 15 spells in the Graveyard, Kagari was strong enough to tie Metaltron in battle! However, when Metaltron was destroyed it Special Summoned Superheavy Samurai Steam Train King! Perez also Special Summoned Raye in Defense Position. In the End Phase, he used Multirole to Set Engage, Widow Anchor, Hornet Drones, and Hercules Base!

Ventura drew his card, and Perez used Raye to play Hayate. Then, Perez used Widow Anchor to steal Steam Train King! Ventura played Amano-Iwato and attacked Hayate. In the End Phase, Amano-Iwato returned to the hand and Steam Train King came back to his side of the field.

Perez drew Mind Crush. He had gone through all his cards trying to take down Metaltron, and it left him with no answer to Steam Train King – Perez conceded! There was only 5 minutes left on the clock, and Perez needed to at least try to even the score.

Duel 2

Ventura Set a monster.

Perez had Raye, Mystical Space Typhoon, Multirole, Twin Twisters, and Widow Anchor. He drew Terraforming, using it to get Area Zero. He played Raye and Area Zero, using the Field Spell’s effect. He Chained Raye’s effect to Special Summon Hayate. Area Zero then added Engage to his hand. He played Multirole and Engage, searching for Hornet Drones. He attacked directly with Hayate, sending Widow Anchor to the Graveyard. In Main Phase 2, he used Multirole’s effect to send Area Zero to the Graveyard. He used Hayate to play Kagari, getting Engage back. He played it to add Hornet Drones to his hand and draw Metalfoes Fusion. He Link Summoned Shizuku and Set Twin Twisters, Widow Anchor, and Hornet Drones. In the End Phase, Multirole Set Engage on the field, and Shizuku added Afterburners to his hand.

Ventura flipped up Amano-Iwato, then used The Monarchs Stormforth to Tribute Shizuku for Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster! Perez flipped Widow Anchor to steal Amano-Iwato, and Chained Hornet Drones to get a second monster. Perez had dealt 1500 damage with Hayate, and Ventura couldn’t outpace him! The round timer ended with Perez in the lead, giving him a win in the second Duel. That means this Match is a Draw!
