200th YCS Mexico City: Round 6 Feature Match – Adrian Madriz vs. Geovanni Gaytan
Guadalajara Duelist Adrian Madriz is one of the very few Duelists with the title of three-time YCS Champion! He’s on a roll this year, with two of his YCS wins in 2018. His other win was right here in Mexico City in 2016. His opponent has some skills of his own – local Duelist Geovanni Gaytan made it to the top cut of last year’s WCQ. This Match pits Madriz’s Sky Strikers against Gaytan’s True Dracos.
Duel 1
Madriz won the die roll and chose to play first. He had a hand of Reinforcement of the Army, Upstart Goblin, two Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. He played Reinforcement of the Army to get Sky Striker Ace – Raye, then Upstart Goblin for Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero. He played Area Zero and Raye, using their effects one after another. He Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate with Raye, but Area Zero failed to hit anything. He used Hayate to play Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku, and Set Widow Anchor. in the End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his hand.
Gaytan played Dragonic Diagram, and lost it to Madriz’s Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Gaytan played Terraforming for another Diagram, and used it to destroy Metaltron XII, the True Dracombatant and search out True King’s Return. He played Pot of Desires to draw two more, then Set three back row cards.
Madriz drew Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole, and Gaytan flipped True King’s Return, using it to revive Metaltron in Defense Position. Madriz played Multirole. Gaytan tried used True King’s Return’s effect to Tribute Summon, but Madriz destroyed it with his second Ghost Ogre. When Return was destroyed, it destroyed Shizuku. That allowed Madriz to Special Summon Raye from his Graveyard. He tried activating Area Zero, and Gaytan flipped Imperial Order! Madriz used Raye to play Hayate and attacked directly. Its effect sent a copy of Area Zero to the Graveyard.
Gaytan Set Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, and Tributed it to play Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. Disciples destroyed Widow Anchor. Metaltron destroyed Hayate in battle, and Raye returned to the field. Ignis Heat attacked, and Raye used its effect. Gaytan responded with Ignis Heat’s effect, and Madriz knew he wouldn’t make it back in this Duel!
Gaytan takes the first Duel with a crushing Imperial Order! Madriz went straight to his Side Deck to find answers for his True Draco problem.
Duel 2
Madriz began this Duel with a hand of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Upstart Goblin, Area Zero, Raye, and Mind Crush. He played his combo of Raye and Area Zero, and used Raye to bring in Hayate. Area Zero added Widow Anchor to his hand. He played Upstart Goblin to draw another Raye. He then used Hayate to play Shizuku. He Set Mind Crush and Widow Anchor, and Shizuku added Engage to his hand.
Gaytan began with Dragonic Diagram and Inspector Boarder! Inspector Boarder attacked Shizuku, and Madriz used Widow Anchor to negate the Boarder. Shizuku lost the battle, and Madriz Special Summoned Raye. Gaytan Set True Draco Heritage and destroyed it with Diagram, getting another Heritage to his hand. The destroyed Heritage targeted Madriz’s Set Mind Crush, and Madriz Chained it to get rid of the new Heritage. He also saw Gaytan’s hand of Anti-Spell Fragrance, Rivalry of Warlords, and Card of Demise. Gaytan Set them all and passed his turn. He likely didn’t want to risk Card of Demise when he already used his Normal Summon for the turn. Madriz used Raye to Special Summon Shizuku, which added Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to his hand.
Madriz drew Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and Gaytan flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance. Madriz used Shizuku to Link Summon Hayate, and attacked directly to send Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to his Graveyard. He then Set both copies of Engage in his hand.
Gaytan sent Inspector Boarder to attack Hayate. He Set another back row card and flipped up Card of Demise to draw three! He Set True Draco Apocalypse and destroyed it with Diagram, adding Heritage to his hand. He Set Disciples of the True Dracophoenix and Tributed it to play Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter, then Set the last card in his hand.
Madriz looked at his next draw and conceded on the spot! In the face of Anti-Spell Fragrance, Inspector Boarder, and Dinomight Knight, he knew this Match was over!
Geovanni Gaytan is victorious with True Draco!
