200th YCS Mexico City: Top 4 Feature Match – Rolando Gordon vs. Andres Torres

September 25th, 2018

We saw Panamanian Duelist Rolando Gordon win his Feature Match yesterday, showing that Gouki are still a force to be reckoned with. He’s now facing Andres Torres in this Top 4 Feature Match! Torres is originally from Miami, but holds dual citizenship in Colombia. That’s where he learned to Duel, so he identifies as a Colombian Duelist. He’s using a Sekka’s Light Burning Abyss Deck, the only one to make it in the Top 64. Only one Duelist can move on to the finals!

Duel 1

Gordon won the die roll and chose to play first. He Special Summoned Junk Forward and Normal Summoned Gouki Suprex. He Link Summoned Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights, using it and Suprex to search out Gouki Headbatt and another Suprex. Isolde sent Noble Arms – Arfeudutyr to the Graveyard to Special Summon Gouki Octostretch. He discarded Suprex to Special Summon Headbatt, using both his Goukis to play Knightmare Phoenix. The Gouki effects added Gouki Twistcobra and Gouki Riscorpio to his hand. He used Gouki Re-Match to bring the same two Goukis back to the field, using them with Isolde to play Firewall Dragon. He used Phoenix to play Knightmare Mermaid, discarding Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade for its effect, and also activated Firewall. Torres used Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Mermaid! Gordon used Firewall’s other effect to add Suprex back to his hand. Firewall resolved, then Ghost Ogre destroyed it. Mermaid Special Summoned Knightmare Corruptor Iblee, and finally Firewall’s other effect Summoned Riscorpio from the hand. Gordon used Iblee and Riscorpio to play Knightmare Cerberus, and the Gouki added Gouki Re-Match to his hand. He knew he could put together a great combo this turn, so he was preparing for next turn. Iblee was Special Summoned to Torres’s side of the field, and Gordon passed.

Torres had a hand of Fabled Soulkius, Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Destiny HERO – Malicious. He drew Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended. He Tributed Iblee for Soulkius, and Gordon had to reach over and read it. Soulkius attacked and crashed into Cerberus. In Main Phase 2, Torres Special Summoned Barbar and Farfa, using them to play Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss in Defense Position. He detached Barbar to send Effect Veiler, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard! Graff’s effect brought Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the field. Dante and Cir were then used to Link Summon Underclock Taker. The two Burning Abyss effects Special Summoned Dante and added Graff to Torres’s hand. He discarded Malicious and Graff to revive Soulkius, then banished Malicous to Special Summon another copy. He used it with Dante to play Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights. He activated Isolde and Dante, Gordon used Effect Veiler on Isolde, and Torres used Sauravis to protect Isolde! His two effects resolved, adding Cir and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to his hand. He used Isolde and Underclock Taker to play Decode Talker. He then Special Summoned his third Malicious, combining it with Soulkius to play Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal in Defense Position. Its effect sent Fairy Tail – Snow to the Graveyard. He ended with Black Luster in hand, Snow in Graveyard, and Decode and Beatrice on the field.

Gordon Normal Summoned Suprex, which Special Summoned Twistcobra. Torres used Beatrice to send a Fiendish Rhino Warrior to the Graveyard, which sent Farfa. Farfa banished Suprex for the turn. Then, Torres banished seven cards to Special Summon Snow, turning Twistcobra face-down. Gordon played Gouki Re-Match, bringing Octostretch and Riscorpio to the field. He used them to Link Summon Isolde. He used all three of his Warriors’ effects to add Gouki Bearhug, Suprex, and Headbatt to his hand. He returned Phoenix Blade to his hand as well. He thought over his options, and decided to concede the first Duel!

Duel 2

Gordon played first, with Gouki Suprex. It was negated by Torres’s Effect Veiler, but Gordon simply played Instant Fusion! Torres looked to the sky, knowing he was about to get hit by a huge combo. Gordon Fusion Summoned Invoked Raidjin, and Link Summoned Isolde. Suprex and Isolde added Headbatt and Suprex to his hand, respectively. Then… he did nothing! He had drawn all of his Equip Spells, leaving Isolde unable to use its effect!

Torres had Sekka’s Light, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Gallis the Star Beast, and Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju. He used Sekka’s Light to draw Cir and Ghost Ogre. He Special Summoned Gallis, sending an Effect Veiler to the Graveyard. Next, he banished Sekka’s Light to return Cir to the Deck, and he drew Fabled Soulkius. He Normal Summoned Fiendish Rhino Warrior, and Xyz Summoned Dante. It detached the Rhino, and sent Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Black Luster, and Sekka’s Light to the Graveyard. Rhino Warrior’s effect sent Graff to the Graveyard, which Special Summoned Cir. Dante and Cir were used to play Underclock Taker, and Torres returned Cir to his hand and Special Summoned Dante with each of their effects. He used Dante and Cir to play Beatrice, then Special Summoned Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! Finally, he used Underclock to reduce Isolde to 0 ATK! Black Luster attacked Isolde, then attacked directly! Beatrice attacked directly! Andres Torres is going to the finals with Burning Abyss!
