200th YCS Mexico City: Top 64 Deck and Player Breakdown

September 23rd, 2018

Let’s look at the data for our Top 64 here at the 200th YCS Mexico City!

Central American events always bring players from all over, and this weekend is no exception. Here’s a look at who made it to the Top 64.

Mexico has done a good job defending their turf, with 51 Duelists in the Top 64! Chile and Panama have the next most representatives, with 3 each. Peruvian Duelists traveled all the way up here, with 2 Duelists making the cut. A large group from the USA decided to come to this event instead of the 200th YCS Columbus, and it’s clearly working out for 2 of them. Finally, there’s one Duelist from each of Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Brazil.

As we saw developing in yesterday’s top tables, Sky Strikers are still the Deck to beat. The other half of the Decks are actually extremely varied, with no clear second best (for lack of a better term) strategy. Altergeist and True Draco have the most, and both Decks have similar game plans trying to control the pace of the Duel with Trap Cards. Gouki are also highly represented, despite the fact that Summon Sorceress is not currently legal for play in Central America. There are several Trickstar players, and if you combine all the variants it’s the second most popular strategy. Followed closely behind are the many Mekk-Knight variants. Duelists are using quite a few versions with Sky Strikers, Invoked, or both. One is using neither, and instead has Deck built to use Brilliant Fusion. Finally, Pendulum, Paleozoic, and Burning Abyss Decks all have managed to make it into the Top 64. Could one of these rogue Decks take down the many Sky Strikers? We’ll find out today!
