Finals Feature Match: Dirk Wagner versus Gabriel Vargas
It all comes down to this! Dirk Wagner from Illinois is Dueling against Gabriel Vargas from Toronto in the Finals of YCS Niagara Falls! There are no Sky Strikers or Thunder Dragons in sight, as this Final Match is between Wagner’s Danger! Dark World Deck and Vargas’s Gouki Deck. Who will prevail? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Wagner opened up Duel 1 with Broww, Huntsman of Dark World, Upstart Goblin, Danger! Thunderbird!, Danger! Dogman!, and Cannon Soldier.
He used Upstart to draw Danger!? Jackalope? and then used the effect of the Dogman in his hand. He randomly discarded Thunderbird and then Special Summoned Dogman and drew a card. He drew Danger! Bigfoot! from his Deck and then used its effect. Broww was randomly discarded from his hand, and then he Special Summoned Bigfoot and drew 2 cards from his Deck: 1 from Bigfoot’s effect, and 1 from Broww’s effect. Those 2 cards were Jackalope and another Bigfoot. He used the effect of a Jackalope, randomly discarding Cannon Soldier, and then drew Danger!? Tsuchinoko?after Special Summoning the Jackalope. Next, he activated the effect of the Bigfoot in his hand. This time, he randomly discarded Jackalope. He Special Summoned Bigfoot, drew a card, and then used Jackalope’s effect to Special Summon a Dogman from his Deck in Defense Position. He used Jackalope and Bigfoot to Link Summon Space Insulator next, then Set Card Destruction to his back row. He then activated the effect of the last card in his hand, Tsuchinoko, to Special Summon it. He combined Space Insulator, Bigfoot, and Tsuchinoko to Link Summon Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion, and used Curious’s effect to send Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World from his Deck to his Graveyard, and then send 3 copies of Allure of Darkness from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he combined 2 copies of Dogman to Xyz Summon Number 42: Galaxy Tomahawk, and used its effect to Special Summon 4 Battle Eagle Tokens to the field. He then Link Summoned Knightmare Phoenix by using Number 42 and a Token. Next, he Link Summoned Link Spider, and combined the Spider with a Token to make Cerberus. Then, he combined Curious with a Token to make Firewall Dragon. He used Firewall Dragon’s effect to add Cannon Soldier and Broww from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he used his Phoenix to Link Summon Knightmare Mermaid, and used Firewall’s effect to Special Summon Cannon Soldier from his hand. He then Tributed the Mermaid with Cannon Soldier and used Firewall’s effect again to Special Summon Broww from his hand. He then returned Broww to his hand to Special Summon Grapha from the Graveyard, and Tributed Grapha with Cannon Soldier to inflict 500 points of damage. That allowed him to Special Summon Broww from his hand with Firewall’s effect. He returned it to his hand to Special Summon Grapha once more, and then used Cannon Soldier’s effect to launch Grapha for 500 points of damage and Special Summon Broww back to the field with Firewall’s effect. He continued the loop, dealing 500 points of damage to Vargas each time he Tributed Grapha with his Cannon Soldier’s effect. After launching 16 monsters with Cannon Soldier, Vargas’s Life Points were reduced to zero.

Duel Two
Vargas started off Duel 2 by activating Magical Mid-Breaker Field and then Normal Summoning Gouki Suprex.
He used its effect to Special Summon Gouki Octostretch from his hand and then used his 2 monsters to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights. He used the effects of his Goukis and Isolde to add Gouki Re-Match, Gouki Twistcobra, and Junk Forward from his Deck to his hand. He activated Isolde’s effect to send Living Fossil and D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation from his Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summon Gouki Headbatt and then combined his monsters to Link Summon SummonSorceress. He used Headbatt’s effect to add Octostretch to his hand and then Set and activated The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine. He then used his Sorceress’s effect to Special Summon Destiny HERO – Malicious from his Deck and combined 2 monsters to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus. He banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another from his Deck and then combined Sorceress with Malicious to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. He banished his Malicious from the Graveyard to Special Summon his last copy from his Deck and then used his Cerberus as a Link Material to Summon Knightmare Mermaid. After a flurry of Special Summons resulting from Firewall Dragon’s effect, Vargas had completed an Extra Link and given a Knightmare Corruptor Iblee to Wagner! He ended his turn with an impressive field!
Wagner opened up Duel 2 with Danger! Chupacabra!, Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, Danger! Nessie!, Danger! Bigfoot!, and Danger!? Jackalope?. He switched Iblee into Attack Position and then attacked a Mermaid, destroying the Iblee. Wagner lost 1000 Life Points in the battle. In Main Phase 2, Wagner activated the effect of the Chupacabra in his hand. He randomly discarded Jackalope from his hand, Special Summoned Chupacabra, drew another Bigfoot, and then Special Summoned Dogman from his Deck with the effect of Jackalope. He revealed a Bigfoot from his hand to activate its effect, and Vargas used the effect of his Tri-Gate Wizard to negate the effect and banish the Bigfoot. He activated the effect of another Bigfoot next, but this time, randomly discarded Bigfoot from his hand. He used Bigfoot’s effect to target Knightmare Mermaid for destruction, and Vargas used the effect of his Proxy Dragon to destroy the Firewall Dragon instead. Next, Wagner revealed Nessie from his hand to use its effect, and randomly discarded Nessie from his hand. Nessie’s effect activated to add Danger! Mothman! from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Danger!? Tsuchinoko? in his hand next, and randomly discarded Mothman. He Special Summoned the Tsuchinoko, drew a card, and then used Mothman’s effect. Both players drew a card and discarded a card. Vargas discarded Tsuchinoko and Special Summoned it, and Wagner discarded Chupacabra and used its effect to Special Summon Nessie. Next, Wagner used Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banish Jackalope from his hand. He activated the effect of a Jackalope in his hand next, and when he randomly discarded Broww from his hand, he Special Summoned the Jackalope and drew 2 cards. He then ended his turn, with 5 monsters on his field but unable to perform the combo he had hoped to assemble.
Vargas Normal Summoned Dark Grepher and then combined it with Proxy Dragon to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He used Unicorn’s effect and discarded Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade to return Magical Mid-Breaker Field to his Deck and draw a card. He activated Monster Reborn next, Special Summoning Firewall Dragon from his Graveyard to recomplete the Extra Link. Tri-Gate banished Nessie, and then Vargas used Firewall Dragon’s effect to return 2 monsters on Wagner’s field back to his hand. Attacks from the rest of Vargas’s monsters wiped Wagner out!
Gabriel Vargas gets an awesome start in Duel 2 and ties up the Match! Duel 3 will decide it all!
Duel Three
Wagner opened up Duel 3 with Danger! Dogman!, Card Destruction, Danger! Chupacabra!,Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, and Snoww, Unlight of the Dark World. He activated Card Destruction; but Vargas used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it! Next, Wagner used the effect of the Dogman in his hand by revealing it. Vargas got lucky and randomly discarded the Dogman! Next, Wagner used the effect of the Danger!? Tsuchinoko, and Vargas randomly discarded the Tsuchinoko itself, causing it to be Special Summoned to the field. Next, Wagner used Chupacabra’s effect. He randomly discarded Snoww. He Special Summoned Chupacabra, drew a card, and then used Snoww’s effect to add another Snoww from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned the Snoww and then combined it with Chupacabra to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller. He ended his turn, on the defensive.
Vargas drew a card and Wagner Summoned Armageddon Knight. He activated its effect, and Wagner Chained the effect of Abyss Dweller by detaching Snoww from it. Wagner sent Destiny HERO – Malicious from his Deck to his Graveyard with his Knight’s effect and then Set and flipped The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine to Special Summon it. He then combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon Isolde and used the effect of Isolde to add Junk Forward to his hand. He then sent Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade from his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Gouki Octostretch from his Deck and Set a card to his back row. He activated the effect of Danger! Nessie! next, and after randomly discarding Tsuchinoko, he Special Summoned Nessie and drew a card. He then Link Summoned Summon Sorceress and activated Soul Charge! He gave up 4000 Life Points to Special Summon Isolde, Malicious, Octostretch, and Armageddon Knight from his Graveyard, and then used his Knight’s effect to send Dark Grepher from his Deck to his Graveyard. He combined his Knight with Nessie to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix and then combined Sorceress with Malicious to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. Next, he used his Phoenix as a Link Material to Summon Knightmare Mermaid and Special Summoned Gouki Suprex from his hand with Firewall’s effect. He Special Summoned Iblee from his Deck with Mermaid’s effect and then Link Summoned Knightmare Cerberus. He used the Cerberus’s effect to discard Called by the Grave, destroy Tsuchinoko, and draw a card. Then, he used Firewall’s effect to return Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Danger! Nessie! from his Graveyard to his hand. He combined Iblee with Isolde to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn next, and discarded Nessie to use its effect, return Dweller to the Extra Deck, and draw a card. Next, Vargas combined Firewall with Mermaid to Link Summon Underclock Taker. He used Monster Reborn to Special Summon Firewall Dragon next, then Set a card to his back row.
Wagner drew The Beginning of the End. He activated the effect of Nessie, discarded The Beginning of the End from his hand at random, and then Special Summoned Nessie and drew a card. Out of options, Wagner finally conceded.
