October 20th, 2018

Jorge Sosa from Dallas, Texas is Dueling against Mridul Sharma from Ontario, Canada in this Round 6 Feature Match! Both of these Duelists have lost 1 round today, but are very much alive in the tournament with 4-1 records. We’re getting a break from Thunder Dragons this round, as Jorge Sosa is using a Burning Abyss Deck featuring 3 copies of Danger!? Tsukonoko from Soul Fusion and Sharma is piloting a Gouki Deck. Each of these Duelists will be trying their hardest to secure a win in order to optimize their chances of a Day 2 finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Sharma Special Summoned Junk Forward, Normal Summoned Gouki Headbatt, and then combined the 2 monsters to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights. He used the effects of Isolde and Headbatt to add Gouki Bearhug and Gouki Re-Match to his hand and then used Isolde’s effect to Special Summon Gouki Octostretch from his Deck by sending Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Link Summoned Summon Sorceress next, and used Octostretch’s effect to add Gouki Suprex to his hand. He used his Sorceress’s effect to Special Summon Destiny HERO – Malicious to Sosa’s field and then activated Gouki Re-Match to Special Summon Octostretch and Headbatt. He Special Summoned Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin from his Deck with Summon Sorceress’s effect next, and then banished Isolde and Junk Forward from his Graveyard to return Phoenix Blade to his hand. He combined 2 monsters to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus next, and then discarded Phoenix Blade to destroy Malicious with its effect. He banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another copy from his Deck and then combined Summon Sorceress and Headbatt to Link Summon Firewall Dragon! He returned his Phoenix Blade from his Graveyard to his hand next, and continued with a series of powerful moves enabled by the effect of Firewall Dragon.

Eventually, he had built a field of 4 Link Monsters and Aqua Dolphin. He activated the effect of Aqua Dolphin before continuing with his moves, and Sosa instantly conceded, deciding to admit defeat instead of revealing his hand of Destiny HERO – Malicious, Danger!? Tsuchinoko?Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and 2 copies of Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to his opponent.

Mridul Sharma manages to Link Summon Firewall Dragon on his first turn and uses it to create an extraordinary field prompting Sosa’s immediate concession!

Duel Two

Sosa opened up Duel 2 with Gallis the Star Beast; Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

He Special Summoned Farfa from his hand with its effect and then Normal Summoned Libic. He combined both of them to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and used its effect to detach an Xyz Material and send 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, including a Destiny HERO – Malicious. He banished the Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another copy from his Deck and then combined Dante with Malicious to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights. He used the effects of Isolde and Dante, adding Libic to his hand with Dante’s effect and adding Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to his hand with Isolde’s effect. He banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon the last copy from his Deck and then sent Scarm and Libic from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Fabled Soulkius from his Graveyard. He combined Malicious with Soulkius to Xyz Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal Linked to Isolde and then Special Summoned Gallis the Star Beast from his hand by sending Libic from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Sharma lost 600 Life Points. Next, Sosa combined Isolde with Gallis to Link Summon Decode Talker. Sosa activated Beatrice’s effect next, and when Sharma tried to use the effect of the PSY-Framegear Gamma in his hand, Sosa Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate the effect, allowing Sharma to keep the Gamma in his hand. In the End Phase, Sosa tried to use Scarm’s effect, but lost out to Gamma. Gamma and the PSY-Frame Driver it Special Summoned from the Deck were banished from the field in the End Phase.

Sharma Special Summoned Junk Forward and then Tributed it for Malicious. Sosa used Beatrice’s effect to send a Fiendish Rhino Warrior from his Deck to his Graveyard, and then used the Rhino’s effect to send Farfa to the Graveyard. Farfa banished the Malicious until the End Phase. Next, Sharma used Living Fossil to Special SummonJunk Forward from his Graveyard. In the End Phase, Malicious returned to the field.

Sosa drew another Gallis the Star Beast and Special Summoned it to the field by sending Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He inflicted another 600 points of damage with Gallis’s effect. Next, he banished Isolde and Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! Black Luster Soldier attacked and destroyed Malicious, then attacked Junk Forward to destroy it. Direct attacks from Decode Talker, Beatrice, and Gallis wiped out all of Sharma’s remaining Life Points!

Jorge Sosa pulls off his combos in Duel 2 to build a big field before finishing off Sharma with Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! The Match is moving on to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Sharma started off Duel 3, but declined to play any cards on his first turn and just passed to Sosa.

Sosa drew a card and then had Effect Veiler, Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Droll & Lock Bird,Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and 2 copies of Danger!? Tsuchinoko? In his hand. He revealed Tsuchinoko from his hand to activate its effect, and Sharma randomly discarded Droll & Lock Bird from his hand, allowing Sosa to Special Summon Tsuchinoko and draw Tour Guide From the Underworld! He Summoned the Tour Guide and activated its effect to Special Summon Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, he combined Tour Guide with Tsuchinoko to Xyz Summon Dante and used its effect. He sent Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Farfa, and Droll & Lock Bird from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and used the effect of his Rhino to send Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to his Graveyard. He then used Graff’s effect to Special Summon Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck in Attack Position. He activated the effect of another Tsuchinoko in his hand next, and this time Sharma discarded a Fiendish Rhino Warrior from his hand. He Special Summoned the Tsuchinoko, drew Gallis the Star Beast, and then Libic was destroyed since there was a non-Burning Abyss monster on the field. He Special Summoned Gallis from his hand by sending Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Gallis inflicted 1800 points of damage to Sharma’s Life Points. Next, Sosa used Cir and Dante to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix, and used the effects of Dante and Cir as Chain Links 1 and 2 respectively. Sharma activated the effect of Gamma in his hand to negate Cir’s effect while Special Summoning PSY-Frame Driver from the Deck, and Sosa returned Cir to his hand with the effect of Dante. Sosa combined all of his monsters to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon next, and attacked Driver to destroy it and drop Sharma down to 3200 Life Points. In the End Phase, Gamma was banished from the field.

Sharma activated Magical Mid-Breaker Field and then used Instant Fusion and gave up 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Invoked Raidjin. He Tributed Raidjin to Summon Destiny HERO – Malicious and then used Monster Reborn to Special Summon Raidjin. He combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon Isolde and then used Isolde’s effect to add Bearhug to his hand. He sent Phoenix Blade to his Graveyard to Special Summon Octostretch and then combined his monsters to Link Summon Summon Sorceress. He used Octostretch’s effect to add Headbatt to his hand and then banished a Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. He used Summon Sorceress’s effect to Special Summon Gouki Riscorpio and then Special Summoned Gouki Headbatt from his hand. He combined Riscorpio and Malicious to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus and used Riscorpio’s effect to add Gouki Suprex to his hand. He banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon the last copy from his Deck and then combined Malicious with Sorceress to Link Summon Firewall Dragon, co-Linked to Knightmare Cerberus. After a series of follow-up plays involving the effect of Firewall Dragon, Sharma had amassed several monsters on his field!

Along the way, he Link Summoned Knightmare Unicorn and used its effect to get rid of his own Magical Mid-Breaker Field. When Sosa thought Firewall Dragon was finally susceptible to Ghost Ogre, he used the Ghost Ogre and Sharma Chained Called by the Grave to banish the Ghost Ogre and protect his Firewall Dragon. Eventually, Sharma Link Summoned Topologic Gumblar Dragon, and used its effect to force Sosa to discard Cir. Sosa used Cir’s effect to Special Summon Dante from his Graveyard, and Dante was destroyed in battle, allowing Sosa to add Farfa to his hand. Sharma couldn’t get the Borrelsword Dragon off of the field with any of his cards, however, since it couldn’t be destroyed in battle! Sharma wasn’t able to finish Sosa off!

Sosa drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and then Summoned Farfa. Farfa destroyed itself since Borrelsword was on the field and then Farfa’s effect banished Firewall Dragon until the End Phase. That was just the opening Sosa needed! With Knightmare Mermaid no longer co-Linked, Borrelsword Dragon’s attack wiped out the Mermaid and inflicted 3000 points of damage to Sharma’s Life Points! With only 2200 Life Points left before the attack was declared, the Duel – and the Match – was over!

Jorge Sosa takes a come-from-behind victory in Duel 3 to win the Match and advance with a 5-1 record using his Burning Abyss Deck with 3 copies of Danger!? Tsukinoko? in it!
