Yang Wu from Youngstown, Ohio is Dueling against Christopher Ho from Toronto, Canada in our Round 8 Feature Match! Both Duelists are currently 5-2 in the tournament, which means that a victory here will allow one of these Duelists to make it to Day 2, while a loss will eliminate the other one. Wu is using a Paleozoic Frog Deck, while Ho is using a Thunder Dragon Deck made possible by Soul Fusion. It’s time to Duel in this final Swiss Round of Day 1!

Duel One

Wu opened up Duel 1 with Heavy Storm Duster, Gozen Match, Paleozoic Dinomischus, Dupe Frog, and Swap Frog.

He Normal Summoned Swap Frog and activated its effect to send Ronintoadin from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used Swap Frog’s effect to return Swap Frog to his hand. Next, he discarded Dupe Frog from his hand to Special Summon Swap Frog back to the field, and used Swap Frog’s effect to send another Ronintoadin to his Graveyard. He banished Dupe Frog from his Graveyard to Special Summon a Ronintoadin and then combined Ronintoadin with Swap Frog to Xyz Summon Toadally Awesome! He Set 3 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

In Ho’s Standby Phase, Wu detached an Xyz Material from Toadally Awesome to Special Summon Dupe Frog from his Deck. Next, Ho Normal Summoned Batteryman Solar and activated its effect. Wu sent his Toadally Awesome to the Graveyard to negate Solar’s effect and destroy Solar. He then used his Toadally Awesome’s effect to return Swap Frog from his Graveyard to his hand. Ho activated Allure of Darkness next, drawing 2 cards and banishing Thunder Dragondark from his hand. He used Thunder Dragondark’s effect to add Thunder Dragon Fusion from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Gold Sarcophagus! He banished Thunder Dragonroar from his Deck and used its effect to Special Summon Thunder Dragonmatrix from his Deck in Defense Position. Next, he discarded Thunder Dragonhawk from his hand to activate its effect and try to Special Summon his banished Dragondark; but Wu Chained Gozen Match to prevent Dragondark from being Special Summoned! Ho activated Pot of Desires next, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. He activated Allure of Darkness next, drawing 2 cards and banishing Thunder Dragonduo from his hand to complete the effect of Allure of Darkness. Next, he activated Thunder Dragon Fusion! He returned 2 of the Thunder Dragon cards in his banished zone and 1 in his Graveyard back to his Main Deck to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Titan! He activated the effect of Thunder Dragon next, and Wu Chained Dinomischus! He discarded Swap Frog to banish Titan, and then Ho added 1 Thunder Dragon from his Deck to his hand. He discarded that Thunder Dragon to grab the last one from his Deck and then ended his turn.

Wu drew Magic Deflector and then banished Swap Frog from his Graveyard to Special Summon Ronintoadin. He combined Swap Frog with Ronintoadin to Xyz Summon Toadally Awesome and then attacked Thunder Dragonmatrix with Toadally Awesome to destroy it. Ho used the effect of his Thunder Dragonmatrix to add another copy from his Deck to his hand. Wu Set Magic Deflector before passing his turn.

Ho drew a card and Wu Special Summoned Dupe Frog from his Deck with the effect of Toadally Awesome in his Standby Phase. Next, Ho banished Thunder Dragon Fusionfrom his Graveyard to add Thunder Dragonroar to his hand with its effect. He discarded the Dragonroar to activate its effect and return the Thunder Dragon Fusion to his hand. Then he banished Thunder Dragonroar and Thunder Dragon from his Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning! He used his Soldier’s effect to attempt to banish Toadally Awesome, and Toadally Awesome’s effect activated to have it send itself to the Graveyard and Set Black Luster Soldier onto his field. Ho activated Thunder Dragon Fusion to Summon Titan and then discarded a Thunder Dragon to grab another from his Deck. He used Titan’s effect to destroy Gozen Match. Next, he discarded the new Thunder Dragon to grab the last one from his Deck and destroy a face-down Heavy Storm Duster. He discarded Dragondark from his hand next to use its effect, and then used Titan’s effect to target Wu’s face-down Magic Deflector. Wu Chained it. Ho Special Summoned another Black Luster Soldier from his hand by banishing a LIGHT and DARK monster from his Graveyard and then used Monster Reborn to Special Summon Toadally Awesome to the field from Wu’s Graveyard. That was enough to end the Duel! Ho’s Black Luster Soldier attacked and destroyed Wu’s face-down Black Luster Soldier and then attacked directly! Follow-up attacks from Titan and Toadally Awesome wiped out the rest of Wu’s Life Points!

Duel Two

Wu opened up Duel 2 with Lost Wind, Paleozoic Olenoides, Solemn Strike, Gozen Match, and Infinite Impermanence. He Set all 5 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.

Ho discarded Thunder Dragon from his hand to get 2 more copies of Thunder Dragon from his Deck.

Next, he activated Pot of Desires and banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. He discarded Thunder Dragonhawk from his hand to Special Summon Thunder Dragon from his Graveyard in Attack Position and then Wu flipped Gozen Match. Ho Chained Twin Twisters by discarding a Thunder Dragon and destroyed Wu’s face-down Infinite Impermanence and face-up Gozen Match. Ho Tributed Thunder Dragon to try to Special SummonThunder Dragon Colossus from his Extra Deck, but lost out when Wu paid 1500 Life Points to activate Solemn Strike and negate its Summon! Next, Ho discarded Thunder Dragondark from his hand to add another copy of it from his Deck to his hand. He then discarded Thunder Dragonroar from his hand to add Thunder Dragonhawk to his hand. He banished Colossus and Thunder Dragon from his Graveyard to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning next and attacked directly with it! Wu flipped Lost Wind to negate its effect and halve its ATK, losing 1500 Life Points in the battle.

Ho drew a card and then used Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banish Dragonroar from his hand. He used Dragonroar’s effect to Special Summon Thunder Dragonhawk from his Deck and then banished Thunder Dragon and Thunder Dragondark from his Graveyard to Special Summon Thunder Dragonduo! He used the effect of his banished Thunder Dragondark to add Thunder Dragon Fusion to his hand and then used Thunder Dragon Fusion to return 3 of his banished Thunder Dragon cards, including 2 Thunder Dragons, to his Deck and Special Summon Thunder Dragon Titan. Wu Set Lost Wind from his Graveyard. Ho discarded a Thunder Dragon to activate its effect and Wu Chained his other face-down Lost Wind to negate Titan’s effect and halve its ATK. Nevertheless, Ho added a Thunder Dragon to his hand with the effect of the Thunder Dragon he discarded. It was all over moments later! Ho entered his Battle Phase and attacked directly with Titan, Thunder Dragonduo, and Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to finish Wu off!
