Round 1 Feature Match: Max Reynolds vs. Earl Boone
Max Reynolds from Milwaukee, Wisconsin is Dueling against Earl Boone from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in what is certain to be a great Feature Match. A Salamangreat Feature Match. It’s greatness versus greatness here in Round 1 of the UDS Invitational – Winter 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Reynolds started off Duel 1 with Salamangreat Spinny, Artifact Sanctum, Infinite Impermanence, and 2 copies of Flame Bufferlo.
He Summoned a Bufferlo, sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Balelynx, and Boone Special Summoned Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay from his hand. He used its effect to draw 2 cards and return a card from his hand to his Deck, and Reynolds added Salamangreat Sanctuary to his hand and used his Bufferlo’s effect to discard Spinny and draw 2 cards. He activated the Sanctuary next and then sent his Balelynx to the Graveyard to Link Summon another one from his Extra Deck. He activated Will of the Salamangreat next, and used its effect to Special Summon Spinny from his Graveyard. He sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf and then Set 2 cards to his back row.
Boone Summoned his own Flame Bufferlo, and when Reynolds flipped Artifact Sanctum, Boone negated it by using the effect of the Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Psychic Tracker from his hand and activated Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Psychic Wheeleder from his Deck. He sent Bufferlo, Wheeleder, and Tracker to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. He lost out on Trishula’s effect to Infinite Impermanence, and he tried to destroy Sunlight Wolf with his Wheeleder’s effect, but Reynolds protected it by banishing a Balelynx from his Graveyard. Boone discarded Salamangreat Gazelle from his hand to draw 2 cards with his Bufferlo’s effect. He activated Salamangreat Circle to add Salamangreat Spinny to his hand and then attacked Sunlight Wolf with Phantazmay to destroy it. Trishula attacked directly next, dropping Reynolds down to 4100 Life Points.
Reynolds drew a card and then Normal Summoned Flame Bufferlo. He activated the effect of Will of the Salamangreat to Special Summon Spinny from his Graveyard and then combined his two monsters to Xyz Summon Salamangreat Miragestallio. He activated its effect, but lost out to Effect Veiler. Next, he activated the effect of Spinny in his Graveyard to Special Summon it back to his field and used both monsters as Link Materials to Summon Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze. He used its effect to Special Summon Salamangreat Gazelle to his field from Boone’s Graveyard and then used the Gazelle’s effect to send Salamangreat Rage from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Link Summoned Sunlight Wolf by using both monsters as Link Materials, and then used the Sunlight Wolf as a Link Material to Summon another Sunlight Wolf thanks to Salamangreat Sanctuary. He used the new Sunlight Wolf’s effect to return the Rage from his Graveyard to his hand and Set it before ending his turn.
Boone Normal Summoned Salamangreat Gazelle and used its effect to send Salamangreat Foxy from his Deck to his Graveyard. He then activated Foxy’s effect by discarding Spinny, and Reynolds flipped Salamangreat Rage to destroy Trishula and Phantazmay. Boone Special Summoned Foxy from his Graveyard, and used Foxy’s effect to destroy Will of the Salamangreat. Boone Link Summoned Balelynx by using Foxy as a Link Material next. Reynolds Special Summoned Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay linked to Sunlight Wolf, and Boone added Salamangreat Sanctuary to his hand. Reynolds added Salamangreat Gazelle to his hand with his Sunlight Wolf’s effect and drew cards with Fantazmay’s effect. Boone continued his turn, eventually Xyz Summoning Miragestallio, and after using its effect to Special Summon Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from his Deck, he was able to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf. He then sent Sunlight Wolf and Miragestallio to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Heatleo. Boone Special Summoned Jack Jaguar from his Graveyard and then attacked Sunlight Wolf with Heatleo. Reynolds protected it by banishing Balelynx from his Graveyard. Then Jack Jaguar attacked and destroyed Sunlight Wolf. Boone banished his own Balelynx from the Graveyard to protect Jack Jaguar, and used the effect of his Field Spell Card to gain Life Points. Boone sent Jack Jaguar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Balelynx next, and then used two monsters to Link Summon Hiita. He used its effect to Special Summon Sunlight Wolf from Reynolds’s Graveyard and then Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.
Reynolds drew Salamangreat Circle and then activated it to add Salamangreat Fowl from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Summoned Gazelle and Special Summoned Fowl from his hand. He used Gazelle’s effect to send Spinny to his Graveyard and then used Spinny’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. He used 3 of his monsters to Link Summon Salamangreat Heatleo and lost out on its effect to Infinite Impermanence. But Reynolds activated Fusion of Fire next! He fused together both of Boone’s Link Monsters to Special Summon Salamangreat Violet Chimera and attacked directly with Heatleo, Phantazmay, and Violet Chimera to drop Boone down to 1775 Life Points.
Boone drew a card and conceded, unable to mount a comeback.
Reynolds wins the first Duel after a huge play with Fusion of Fire! Boone chose to go second in Duel 2.
Duel Two
Reynolds opened up with 2 copies of Salamangreat Gazelle, Salamangreat Circle, Fusion of Fire, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He used Circle to add Spinny to his hand and then Normal Summoned it. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Balelynx and Special Summoned Gazelle from his hand. He lost out on Balelynx’s effect to Effect Veiler and then used Gazelle’s effect to send Salamangreat Roar from his Deck to his Graveyard. He returned Spinny to his field and Xyz Summoned Miragestallio, and used its effect to Special Summon Jack Jaguar from his Deck. He sent Balelynx and Jack Jaguar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf and then sent Sunlight Wolf and Miragestallio to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf. He used its effect to add Salamangreat Roar from his Graveyard to his hand and Special Summoned Jack Jaguar linked to Sunlight Wolf. He added a Gazelle from his Graveyard to his hand. He Set the Roar and then ended his turn.
Boone Normal Summoned Foxy and used its effect to add a Gazelle from the top of his Deck to his hand.
He then Special Summoned Psychic Wheeleder and sent both of his monsters to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Hyper Psychic Riser. He tried to destroy Reynolds’s Sunlight Wolf, but Reynolds protected it by banishing Balelynx from his Graveyard. Then, Psychic Riser attacked and destroyed Sunlight Wolf.
Reynolds Normal Summoned a Gazelle and activated its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he sent Jack Jaguar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Balelynx, and Special Summoned Jack Jaguar back from his Graveyard. He sent Balelynx and Jack Jaguar to his Graveyard to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf and then used Spinny’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. He then combined 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Salamangreat Miragestallio and used its effect to Special Summon Salamangreat Falco from his Deck. He then sent Sunlight Wolf and Miragestallio to the Graveyard to Link Summon Heatleo, and used the effect of the Miragestallio in the Graveyard to return Hyper Psychic Riser to the Extra Deck. Reynolds then used his Sanctuary to send Heatleo to the Graveyard and Link Summon another one, and attacked directly with it.
Boone Normal Summoned Flame Bufferlo and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Balelynx. He tried using Bufferlo’s effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom. Next, he activated Salamangreat Sanctuary and sent his Balelynx to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Balelynx. He tried to Special Summon a Gazelle from his hand, but lost out to Salamangreat Roar. Next, he Special Summoned Foxy and sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Special Summon Hiita. He used its effect to Special Summon Heatleo from Reynolds’s Graveyard and then attacked Reynolds’s Heatleo with his own; but he was able to protect his by banishing Balelynx. Hiita attacked and destroyed Falco next, allowing Reynolds to get back Salamangreat Circle.
Reynolds activated his Circle and then Normal Summoned Salamangreat Raccoon. He used it to Link Summon Balelynx and then Special Summoned Gazelle from his hand, using its effect to send a Salamangreat Rage from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Link Summoned Sunlight Wolf next, returned Jack Jaguar to his field, and then Link Summon Hiita. He used its effect to Special Summon Heatleo from Boone’s Graveyard, and then activated Fusion of Fire! He Special Summoned Salamangreat Violet Chimera using both of Boone’s monsters as Fusion Materials, and then direct attacks from Hiita, Heatleo, and Violet Chimera wiped out all of Boone’s Life Points!
