Round 10 Feature Match: Abraham King vs. Jesse Kotton

Welcome to Day 2 of the UDS Invitational – Winter 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada! There are lots of cool Decks here in Day 2, but Abraham King’s Nekroz Deck may be the coolest of them all. Abraham King from Oregon currently has a 6-2-1 record, and now he’s up against 2017 and 2018 World Championship competitor Jesse Kotton from Toronto, Canada! Kotton is using a Danger! Zombie Deck featuring Orcust monsters. There are 4 more Swiss Rounds left before the Top 16 cut, so every Match from here on out is important to both of these Duelists’ chances of making the Top 16 cut. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Kotton chose to go first and started off the Match by revealing Danger! Mothman! from his hand to activate its effect.

He randomly discarded Mezuki and Special Summoned Mothman, allowing him to draw a card. Next, he Normal Summoned Gozuki and used its effect to send Necroworld Banshee from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished it from his Graveyard to activate Zombie World from his Deck and then sent Gozuki and Mothman to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He banished Mothman from his Graveyard to use Gozuki’s effect and Special Summon Mezuki from his hand and then sent Knightmare Phoenix to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Mermaid. He discarded Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson from his hand to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from his Deck and then sent Orcust Knightmare and Knightmare Mermaid to the Graveyard to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. He banished Orcust Knightmare from his Graveyard to send World Legacy – “World Wand” from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used Galatea’s effect to Set Orcustrated Return from his Deck. He activated Orcustrated Return to trade in an Orcust Harp Horror for 2 new cards and then banished the Harp Horror from his Graveyard to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton from his Deck. He then used Destrudo’s effect and paid 4000 Life Points to Special Summon it from his Graveyard. He Tuned it with Mezuki to Synchro Summon Borreload Savage Dragon and used its effect to equip it with Knightmare Phoenix and gain 2 Borrel Counters. He then sent Cymbal Skeleton and Galatea to the Graveyard to Link Summon Summon Sorceress and banished the Skeleton from his Graveyard to Special Summon Galatea back from his Graveyard linked to the Sorceress. He then used the Sorceress’s effect to Special Summon Uni-Zombie from his Deck and sent Galatea and Uni-Zombie to the Graveyard to Link Summon The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche. He banished Mezuki from his Graveyard to Special Summon Uni-Zombie and then used Uni-Zombie’s effect to send Necroworld Banshee from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used his Bardiche’s effect to send The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak from his Deck to his Graveyard and Set The Phantom Knights’ Rank-Up-Magic Launch from his Deck. He banished the Cloak from his Graveyard to add The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to his hand and Special Summoned it. He then used Uni-Zombie’s effect to discard Doomking Balerdroch and give a Level to Silent Boots, and combined Silent Boots with Uni-Zombie to Xyz Summon Time Thief Redoer. He used its effect to banish it until the End Phase and then banished Silent Boots from his Graveyard to add The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine to his hand. In his End Phase, he returned Time Thief Redoer to his field.

King opened up Duel 1 with Impcantation Bookstone, Impcantation Candoll, Impcantation Penciplume, Nekroz of Valkyrie, and Reinforcement of the Army. He drew Nekroz of Trishula and then conceded, completely overwhelmed by Kotton’s field.

Jesse Kotton has a huge start in Duel 1 and takes the win! Abraham King chose to go first in Duel 2!

Duel Two

King opened up Duel 2 with Nekroz of Gungnir, Impcantation Talismandra, Impcantation Bookstone, Renewal of the World, and Zaborg the Mega Monarch.

He Special Summoned Talismandra from his hand by revealing Nekroz of Gungnir and then Special Summoned Impcantation Candoll. He used Candoll’s effect to add Nekroz Mirror to his hand. He Tributed both Impcantations to Summon Zaborg the Mega Monarch and used its effect to have it destroy itself! He sent 3 copies of Herald of the Arc Light, 2 copies of Toadally Awesome, an Abyss Dweller, a PSY-Framelord Omega, and a Gagaga Cowboy from his own Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Borrelsword Dragon, Borreload Savage Dragon, Knightmare Mermaid, The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche, Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing, Summon Sorceress, Time Thief Redoer, and Galitea, the Orcust Automaton from Kotton’s Extra Deck to his Graveyard. King used the effects of the cards sent to his Graveyard to add Nekroz of Unicore, Nekroz of Brionac, and Nekroz of Clausolas to his hand. He used the effects of the 2 copies of Toadally Awesome to return one Toadally Awesome and an Abyss Dweller from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck. He then discarded Clausolas to add Nekroz Kaleidoscope from his Deck to his hand and then used Kaleidoscope to send Elder Entity N’tss from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and Special Summon Unicore from his hand. He discarded Nekroz of Brionac to add Shurit, Strategist of the Nekroz from his Deck to his hand and then activated the effect of Impcantation Bookstone in his hand by revealing a Mirror. He used its effect to Special Summon Impcantation Penciplume and used its effect to add Nekroz of Brionac to his hand. He Set Renewal of the World before passing.

Kotton activated Card Destruction! King Chained the effect of the Nekroz of Gungnir in his hand to target his Unicore and then both players discarded their hands and drew new ones. Kotton banished a Silent Boots from his Graveyard to add The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine to his hand and then passed his turn with no cards on his field.

King drew a card and then activated Pot of Extravagance! He banished 6 random cards from his Extra Deck to draw 2 cards. He Special Summoned Candoll from his hand next, and used its effect to Special Summon Penciplume from his Deck. He used Penciplume’s effect to return Nekroz of Clausolas to his hand and then discarded Clausolas to add Nekroz Mirror to his hand. He used the Mirror to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Valkyrie and then activated Nekroz Cycle to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Gungnir. He Normal Summoned Dance Princess of the Nekroz and attacked directly with all four monsters to wipe out all 8000 of Kotton’s Life Points!

Duel Three

Kotton started off Duel 3 by Normal Summoning Gozuki and activating Card Destruction! He discarded his hand to draw 3 new cards, and King discarded Nekroz of Valkyrie, Nekroz of Trishula, Impcantation Penciplume, Impcantation Talismandra, and Impcantation Candoll to draw a new hand. Kotton used the effect of his discarded Danger!? Jackalope? to Special Summon Danger!? Tsuchinoko? from his Deck and then used Gozuki’s effect to send Necroworld Banshee from his Deck to his Graveyard. He revealed Danger! Nessie! to use its effect and randomly discarded it, adding Danger! Chupacabra! from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He then used Chupacabra’s effect and randomly discarded the Chupacabra, Special Summoning Jackalope from his Graveyard. He banished Banshee from his Graveyard to activate Zombie World from his Deck and then sent Gozuki and Tsuchinoko to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He banished Danger! Bigfoot! from his Graveyard to use Gozuki’s effect and Special Summon Mezuki from his hand and then sent Phoenix to the Graveyard to Link Summon Mermaid. He discarded Mezuki to use Mermaid’s effect and Special Summon Orcust Knightmare and then sent Mermaid and Orcust Knightmare to the Graveyard to Link Summon Galatea. He sent Galatea and Jackalope to the Graveyard to Link Summon Summon Sorceress and used its effect to Special Summon Uni-Zombie from his Deck. He banished Orcust Cymbal Skeleton from his Graveyard to Special Summon Galatea from his Graveyard and then used its effect to Set Orcustrated Return from his Deck. He then sent Galatea and Uni-Zombie to the Graveyard to Link Summon Rusty Bardiche and banished Mezuki from his Graveyard to Special Summon Uni-Zombie.  He Synchro Summoned Borreload Savage Dragon soon after, and equipped it with Knightmare Phoenix. He used the effect of Rusty Bardiche later in the turn, Setting The Phantom Knights’ Rank-Up-Magic Launch from his Deck and sending Ancient Cloak to the Graveyard. He banished Ancient Cloak from his Graveyard to add Silent Boots to his hand and Special Summoned it. Then he sent Silent Boots and Sorceress to the Graveyard to Link Summon Vampire Sucker. His turn continued with a flurry of plays that progressed his board, until finally, he ended his turn with a dominating field.

King drew a card and then Kotton Special Summoned Doomking Balerdroch from his Graveyard. King discarded Nekroz of Brionac from his hand to activate its effect, prompting Kotton to flip The Phantom Knights’ Rank-Up-Magic Launch to Special Summon Outer Entity Azathot. King added Valkyrus to his hand with Brionac’s effect and then Special Summoned Dinowrestler Pankratops. Pankratops attacked and destroyed Balerdroch, and then King Set Nekroz Cycle in Main Phase 2.

Kotton drew a card and then Special Summoned Balerdroch back to his field and drew a card with Vampire Sucker’s effect. He Normal Summoned Mezuki next and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Vampire Sucker to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He activated its effect by discarding Chupacabra, returning King’s face-down Cycle to his Deck. He then used Chupacabra’s effect to Special Summon Nessie from his Deck in Attack Position. He sent Azathot and Nessie to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus and used its effect by discarding “World Wand” to destroy Pankratops. King Tributed Pankratops to destroy Unicorn and then Kotton banished Mezuki from his Graveyard to Special Summon Time Thief Redoer. Kotton entered his Battle Phase and attacked directly with his monsters. When King tried to end the Battle Phase with the effect of Nekroz of Valkyrie and stay in the Duel, Kotton used the effect of his Savage Dragon to negate its activation!
