Round 8 Feature Match: Andrew Fredella vs. Ryan Yu
Andrew Fredella from Miami, Florida and Ryan Yu from Ontario are up against one another in this Round 8 Feature Match. Fredella is no stranger to the top tables at competitive events, and neither is Ryan Yu. Yu won the Dragon Duel World Championship in 2017 and was invited back to compete in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship in 2018, as he aged out of Dragon Duels. Now, 14-year-old Ryan Yu is 6-1 in the UDS Invitational – Winter 2018, and he’s about to begin a Sky Striker mirror-Match. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Fredella opened up Duel 1 with Solemn Strike, Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves!, Foolish Burial Goods, and Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon.
He activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to his Graveyard and then activated Engage to add a Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to his hand. He activated it to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token and then used the Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. He activated Kagari’s effect, but lost out to Yu’s Effect Veiler. Fredella shuffled Metalfoes Fusion from his Graveyard into his Deck to draw Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole next, and then used Kagari to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He activated Multirole, Set 2 cards to his back row, and then added a Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to his hand in the End Phase. He activated it targeting Shizuku, and then Set it to the field from his Graveyard with the effect of Multirole.
Yu activated Terraforming to add Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to his hand and activated it. He Set a card to his back row and targeted it with Area Zero. He destroyed his face-down Terraforming and added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to his hand. He activated Reinforcement of the Army next, adding Sky Striker Ace – Raye to his hand. He activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to his Graveyard and then shuffled the Metalfoes Fusion into his Deck to draw a card. He Summoned Raye next, and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He attacked directly with it, and used its effect to send Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Hayate to the Graveyard to try to Link Summon Kagari next, but lost out when Fredella flipped Solemn Strike and gave up 1500 Life Points to negate its Summon. Yu immediately conceded.

Duel Two
Yu activated Area Zero and Set a card to his back row.
He destroyed his Set Eagle Booster to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from the top of his Deck to his hand with the effect of Area Zero and then activated Engage to add Raye to his hand. He Summoned it and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Kagari and used Kagari’s effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Graveyard to his hand. Then he Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set a card to his back row and then added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand with Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase.
Fredella opened up with Mind Control, Shared Ride, Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, Twin Twisters, Sky Striker Ace – Raye, and Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster. He activated Mind Control to take control of Shizuku and used it as a Link Material to Summon Hayate. He attacked directly with Hayate and then used Hayate’s effect to send Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Hayate as a Link Material to Summon Kagari and then used Kagari’s effect. Yu Chained Shared Ride, and when Fredella added Jamming Wave’s to his hand, Yu drew a card. Fredella Set 4 cards to his back row and then ended his turn, keeping Kagari on his field.
Yu Set an Area Zero to replace the one on his field, putting a third Spell Card into his Graveyard. He then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and Fredella Chained Shared Ride. Yu added Jamming Waves from his Deck to his hand and drew a card, and Fredella drew a card from his Deck with the effect of Shared Ride. Yu targeted Fredella’s face-down Eagle Booster with Jamming Waves, and Fredella Chained it to protect Kagari for the turn. Next, Yu used Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to his Graveyard and shuffled it into his Deck to draw a card. He used Upstart Goblin to draw another card and give Fredella 1000 Life Points and then Set a card to his back row before passing.
Fredella sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hayate. He attacked directly with Hayate, dropping Yu down to 5000 Life Points, and then used Hayate’s effect to send Area Zero from his Deck to his Graveyard. He then sent Hayate to the Graveyard to Link Summon Kagari and used Kagari’s effect to target Area Zero. Yu Chained Shared Ride, and Fredella Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Yu Chained Effect Veiler to negate Kagari’s effect. Next, Fredella sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Shizuku. He entered his End Phase and then used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.
Yu flipped his face-down Area Zero and Set a card to his back row. He used Area Zero’s effect to reveal Reinforcement of the Army, Sky Striker Ace – Raye, and Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster from the top of his Deck, added Raye to his hand, and destroyed his face-down Terraforming. Next, he activated Engage to add Afterburners to his hand and draw a card. He used Afterburners to destroy Fredella’s Shizuku and then his face-down Widow Anchor and then Normal Summoned Raye. He attacked directly with Raye, and then used its Quick Effect in the Battle Phase to Tribute it and Summon Kagari. He used Kagari’s effect to add Engage from his Graveyard to his hand and then attacked directly with Kagari, dropping Fredella down to 5100 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Yu activated another Engage. He added a Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand and drew a card. Then, he sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Shizuku and Set 3 cards to his back row. In the End Phase, he used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole from his Deck to his hand. Then, Fredella discarded Raye to activate Twin Twisters and destroy Yu’s face-down Reinforcement of the Army and Shared Ride.
Fredella drew Solemn Strike and then activated Jamming Waves! He destroyed Yu’s face-down Widow Anchor and chose not to destroy Shizuku. He activated Engage to add Widow Anchor to his hand and draw Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his Deck and then used Widow Anchor to take control of Shizuku. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Kagari and used Kagari’s effect to add Engage from his Graveyard to his hand. He used Engage to add Widow Anchor to his hand and draw Shark Cannon from his Deck. He attacked directly with Kagari to drop Yu down to 2600 Life Points and then sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Shizuku in Main Phase 2. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then entered his End Phase. In his End Phase, he added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to his hand with the effect of Shizuku.
Yu activated Twin Twisters by discarding Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, targeting Fredella’s face-down Shark Cannon and Widow Anchor. Fredella Chained the Shark Cannon to Special Summon Kagari from Yu’s Graveyard. He used Kagari’s effect to add Widow Anchor from his Graveyard to his hand. Yu activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole next and tried to use its effect to send Area Zero to the Graveyard, but Fredella discarded Ghost Ogre to destroy the Multirole. Next, Yu Summoned Ghost Ogre and tried to use Area Zero’s effect to target it, but Fredella Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Yu conceded with no cards left to use.
