Top 4 Feature Match: Nishaad Lorengo vs. Tyler Pfeifer
We’re in the semifinals of the UDS Winter Invitational! Nishaad Lorengo is here from the D.C. area – we saw him yesterday in a Feature Match where he won with his Danger! Thunder Dragon Deck. He’s up against Tyler Pfeifer from Reno, NV, using Sky Strikers. These Duelists are so close to the title of UDS Champion, but only one can move on from here. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Pfeifer won the dice roll and played first. He used Upstart Goblin, then Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard. He activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and Set Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves!, using Multirole to send it to the Graveyard for its effect. Now that his spells couldn’t be negated, he activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to search for Sky Striker Ace – Raye and draw a card. He Normal Summoned Raye and Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, adding Engage back to his hand. He played it again, searching for Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and drawing a card. He activated Metalfoes Fusion in the Graveyard, shuffling it away to draw a new card. He activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and Set a Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon. He used Area Zero, sending Shark Cannon to the Graveyard but only getting a new Shark Cannon for his trouble. He used Kagari to play Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and Set two cards in his back row. He moved to his End Phase and used Multirole to Set Engage, then had Shizuku search for another Widow Anchor.
Lorengo had a hand of Chaos Dragon Levianeer, Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair, Batteryman Solar, Phantom Skyblaster, and Eclipse Wyvern. He thought things over for a moment and moved straight to the next Duel! He knew there was too much for him to fight through here.
Duel 2
Lorengo started this time with two Thunder Dragonhawk, Chaos Dragon Levianeer, White Dragon Wyverburster, and Danger! Nessie!. He used Nessie first, discarding a Dragonhawk. He Special Summoned Nessie and drew Phantom Skyblaster. Pfeifer then activated Droll & Lock Bird to keep Lorengo from searching his Deck any more this turn. He Normal Summoned Skyblaster and created two Skyblaster Tokens. He used Phantom Skyblaster and a token to play Reprodocus, and used the last token to play Link Spider. He had Reprodocus make Link Spider into a Dinosaur, then used both to play Summon Sorceress. The Sorceress Special Summoned Dragonhawk from his hand to Pfeifer’s field. He tried using Summon Sorceress’s other effect, but Pfeifer had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! He passed with only Summon Sorceress and a Defense Position Nessie.
Pfeifer used Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard, then used the Fusion’s effect to draw a new card. He activated Area Zero, adding Raye to his hand and sending Dragonhawk to the Graveyard. He played Raye, then used it for Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He sent Hayate to attack directly, and its effect sent Engage to the Graveyard. Then he used Hayate to play Kagari and added Engage to his hand. He used Kagari to play Sky Striker Ace – Kaina, then that to play Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He activated Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster on Shizuku, then used Widow Anchor on it as well (it didn’t do anything thanks to Eagle Booster). He really needed those extra spells in the Graveyard. He activated Engage to search for another Widow Anchor and draw a card. He Set two cards in his back row. In the End Phase, Shizuku added Multirole to his hand.
Lorengo drew Danger!? Jackalope?. He banished Skyblaster to Special Summon White Dragon Wyverburster, and used Summon Sorceress’s effect – Pfeifer used Widow Anchor to negate Summon Sorceress and take control of it for the turn. Lorengo used Wyverburster and Nessie to play Knightmare Phoenix. He had Phoenix discard Jackalope and destroy Pfeifer’s Set Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, and Wyverburster added Black Dragon Collapserpent to his hand. Then, the discarded Jackalope Special Summoned Danger!? Tsuchinoko?. Next, he banished Dragonhawk, Nessie, and Wyverburster to play Chaos Dragon Levianeer! It destroyed Area Zero with its effect. He then Special Summoned Collapserpent and used all his monsters to play Saryuja Skull Dread! Collapserpent added a Wyverburster to his hand, then Saryuja let him draw two copies of The Melody of Awakening Dragon, Thunder Dragonroar, and Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay. He had to return three cards, so he ended up with a hand of Melody and Dragonroar. He discarded Dragonroar to play Melody and add Chaos Dragon Levianeer and Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair to his hand. He banished Dragonroar, Collapserpent, and Levianeer to play his new Levianeer. The banished Dragonroar Special Summoned Thunder Dragondark from the Deck. He used Levianeer and Dragondark to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus, and Dragondark’s effect added a Dragonroar to Lorengo’s hand. Saryuja Special Summoned Diabolos, and he used the two to play Guardragon Agarpain! It Special Summoned Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon. He used Agarpain to Tribute Summon Dragonroar, then Special Summoned Diabolos from the Graveyard. Finally, the Battle Phase. Crystal Wing attacked Shizuku, then negated the effect of Raye in the Graveyard. Lorengo passed the turn, and Summon Sorceress returned to his control.
Pfeifer used Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard, then used that to draw a new card. He now had three in hand, with nothing on the field. He thought a moment, and decided to go on to the third Duel!
Duel 3
Pfeifer played first for the final Duel, and kicked things off with Engage to get Raye. He played it, then Kagari to get back Engage. He activated it again, this time finding Area Zero. He activated it, then Set Metalfoes Fusion. He used Area Zero, sending Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard to get Multirole in his hand. He then used Metalfoes Fusion’s effect in the Graveyard to draw a new card. He Link Summoned Shizuku and Set one back row card. Shizuku searched for Widow Anchor.
Lorengo had Diabolis, Nessie, Wyverburster, Skyblaster, and Radian, the Multidimensional Kaiju. He drew The Melody of Awakening Dragon. He Tributed Shizuku to hand over Radian. Now that Pfeifer had a monster in the Main Monster Zone, he wouldn’t be able to use most of his Sky Striker spells. Lorengo continued by playing Melody, discarding Nessie. Pfeifer negated Melody with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, but Nessie still searched for Jackalope. Lorengo banished Nessie to play Wyverburster, and Pfeifer flipped Summon Limit! Lorengo passed!
Pfeifer played Multirole, using its effect to send Area Zero to the Graveyard, and Area Zero Special Summoned Raye. He sent Radian to attack Wyverburster, and Lorengo added Collapserpent to his hand. Raye attacked directly. He then used Raye’s effect to bring Hayate to the field, and attacked with that as well. Hayate’s effect put Eagle Booster in the Graveyard. Pfeifer thought a moment. “Darn it. I shouldn’t have Summoned Hayate…” This was the first time he’d actually activated Summon Limit all weekend, he said, so he wasn’t accustomed to playing around it. He Set a back row card.
Lorengo drew another Phantom Skyblaster. He activated Jackalope, discarding itself, and its effect brought Nessie to the field in Defense Position.
Pfeifer used Multirole to get rid of Radian. Now that his Main Monster Zone was empty, he could activate Widow Anchor to steal Nessie. He Normal Summoned Raye and attacked directly to take the Match!
