Central America World Qualifying Points Playoff Finals Feature Match: Galileo De Obaldia Soza vs. Jose Carlo Carrillo Toscano
It all comes down to this! Galileo De Obaldia Soza from Panama will be facing off against Jose Carlos Carrillo Toscano from Mexico for a spot to represent Central America in this year’s World Championship. We have featured both Duelists already, watching them each claim victory. Who will come out on top and earn their trip to the World Championship in Berlin, Germany this August?
Carrillo won the roll and elected to go first.
Duel One:
Carrillo began with Mathematician, using its effect to send Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck to the Graveyard. He activated Glow-Up Bulb next, milling Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from his Graveyard. He sent both to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus, then followed it up with Knightmare Mermaid. He used the effect of Knightmare Mermaid, discarding The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from his Deck. He Link Summoned Galatea, the Orcust Automaton and banished Orcust Knightmare to send Orcust Harp Horror to the Graveyard before he banished it to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton. He used Galatea, the Orcust Automaton and Orcust Cymbal Skeleton as Link Materials for The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche, and activated its effect to send The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to the Graveyard and Set Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade. He banished The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to add The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigadine, and banished Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to Special Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. He Special Summoned The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from his hand, then Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and used its effect to to destroy his own The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche. He Link Summoned Galatea, the Orcust Automaton next, using Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, then used its effect to shuffle back a banished monster and activated Orcustrated Babel before ending his turn with three cards in hand.
De Obaldia began with Reinforcement of the Army, grabbing Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck. He activated Upstart Goblin next, granting Carrillo 1000 Life Points in exchange for a draw. Next Mystical Space Typhoon came down for De Obaldia, targeting Orcustrated Babel. Carrillo responded with both Galatea, the Orcust Automaton and Orcust Cymbal Skeleton, shuffling back a banished monster to Set Orcust Crescendo and Special Summoning Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star respectively. In a new Chain, Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star then activated and equipped Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to it as a material. De Obaldia activated Terraforming, adding Mystic Mine to his hand. Sky Striker Modules – Multirole came down next, followed by Sky Striker – Mobilize Engage! letting De Obaldia add Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to his hand and draw Foolish Burial Goods. He used it to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard, then shuffled it back into the Deck to draw Infinite Impermanence. He Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and used it to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, adding back Engage and using it to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and drew another Engage! He took a moment to check Carrillo’s Graveyard before he slammed down the Engage to add Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and draw another copy of Mystic Mine. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate next, attacking directly and opting not to send anything to the Graveyard. Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku was Link Summoned next before De Obaldia before Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon, and Infinite Impermanence from his hand. During the End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and activated it so he could Set it with Sky Striker Modules – Multirole.
Carrillo drew and discarded Foolish Burial to add back Orcustrated Babel. He then Link Summoned Galatea, the Orcust Automaton using his on field monsters, prompting De Obaldia to use Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and banish Orcust Cymbal Skeleton. De Obaldia then activated the Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor that was Set off of Sky Striker Modules – Multirole, stealing the Galatea, the Orcust Automaton and preventing Carrillo from using its effect. Carrillo Normal Summoned Mathematician next, but was met with Infinite Impermanence. He banished Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, then used it and Mathematician to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He discarded Mystic Mine to blow away Multirole with Phoenix’s effect, then attacked with Phoenix into Shizuku so that his Phoenix would be destroyed. During the End Phase, De Obaldia’s Mystic Mine destroyed itself.
De Obaldia drew for turn and activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, but Carrillo stopped it with Orcust Crescendo. De Obaldia used another copy of Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, but that one got blocked by Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade. De Obaldia modified his Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku into Sky Striker Ace – Kaina, using it on the Galatea, the Orcust Automaton, then transformed the Kaina into another Shizuku. He Set a card and during the End Phase, added Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! to his hand.
Carrillo drew and Flipped his Set The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigadine before he tributed his negated Galatea, the Orcust Automaton and the trap to Set a monster and end his turn.
De Obaldia drew Metaverse and went to Battle Phase, declaring an attack on the Set monster with Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Carrillo revealed a Set Danger! Nessie, causing De Obaldia to lose 200 Life Points. He Set a card and moved to End Phase, and Carrillo banished Crescendo during the End Phase to add Orcust Harp Horror.
Carrillo drew and Set a monster before moving to End Phase, which prompted De Obaldia to activate Metaverse to grab Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and add it to his hand.
De Obaldia activated Sky Striker Modules – Multirole, then Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero. He declared an attack over Orcust Harp Horror, then moved to End Phase where he Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor thanks to Multirole. Still during the End Phase, Carrillo used Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from his Deck.
Carrillo drew to two cards and slammed down Terraforming for Trickstar Light Stage. He activated it over his Orcustrated Babel, adding Trickstar Candina to his hand. He used Trickstar Light Stage to lock down the back row he knew was Widow Anchor next, and Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina to add Trickstar Corobane to his hand. He used all three of his monsters to Link Summon Longirsu, the Orcust Orchestrator, then banished Orcust Knightmare targeting his Longirsu to send World Legacy – “World Wand” to his Graveyard. Next, Longirsu used its effect, shuffling back two of his banished monsters to destroy Shizuku. Once Shizuku hit the Graveyard, De Obaldia used it to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Raye , then used Sky Striker Ace – Raye to Special Summon another copy of Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Next, Carrilo Toscano Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and tried to destroy Shizuku, but De Obaldia used Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to protect it. Carrillo banished World Wand to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton, then during the End Phase Widow Anchor was destroyed because of Light Stage.
De Obaldia used Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, sending Multirole, to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye to his hand. He declared an attack with Shizuku over Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star, but it protected itself with its effect. He Set Mystic Mine and destroyed it with his own Jamming Waves, using the second part of its effect to destroy Orcust Cymbal Skeleton. Next he activated Shark Cannon to banish Orcust Cymbal Skeleton before ending his turn.
Carrillo drew and activated Trickstar Light Stage, adding Trickstar Corobane to his hand. He Set a monster before ending his turn.
De Obaldia drew Infinite Impermanence as light stood at 7800 for him while Carrillo had 6500. He declared an attack with Shizuku over Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star before ending his turn.
Carrillo drew a card and Set it before passing.
De Obaldia drew Called by the Grave and Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye . He attacked with Shizuku over Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and then directly with Raye before Setting both of his cards and ending his turn.
Carrillo drew, then used Trickstar Light Stage on one of De Obaldia’s back row. He ended his turn, causing the Infinite Impermanence to be destroyed.
De Obaldia drew and went straight to battle with his Aces, leaving Carrillo with just 1000 Life Points. He Set a card, but during the End Phase Carrillo Flipped Twin Twisters discarding Twin Twisters targeting both back row. The old one was Chained, Called by the Grave, which banished The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche.
Carrillo drew and Special Summoned Corrobane, Normal Summoned Ash, and then discarded Orcust Harp Horror to add back Orcustrated Babel. He banished Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from his Deck, then banished Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to bring back his The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots. He then used all of monsters to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon! He used the effect of Orcust Knightmare to send Orcust Harp Horror to the Graveyard before he moved to Battle Phase, but realize he had no way to play to stop De Obaldia from ending the Duel the following turn with Hayate!
After a grueling game one, less than ten minutes remained in the round so both Duelists immediately began Side Decking. De Obaldia was just one win away from making it to the World Championship once again. Will he make it?
Carrillo chose to go first.
Duel Two:
He started with Set Rotation, giving himself Trickstar Light Stage while giving De Obaldia Orcustrated Babel. In response to the effect of Trickstar Light Stage, De Obaldia used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Carrillo was forced to Set a monster as well as a back row and end his turn.
De Obaldia started with Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones and used the Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Hayate attacked directly and De Obaldia sent Sky Striker – Mobilize Engage! to the Graveyard. The Hayate turned into Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, and added back the Engage to his hand. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku next, and ended his turn adding another Engage to his hand with no back row Set.
Carrillo activated Twin Twisters, discarding The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, to destroy the Orcustrated Babel he had given De Obaldia. He Normal Summoned Mathematician next and sent Glow-Up Bulb to the Graveyard, milling Eradicator Epidemic Virus to bring it back. He Flipped his Set Orcust Harp Horror and used Glow-Up Bulb to Link Summon Link Kuriboh, then used his other two monsters to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. He Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star next over the Galatea, the Orcust Automaton, destroying Shizuku and making a direct attack to put De Obaldia down to 6100. He discarded Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to add back Orcustrated Babel, and activated it before ending his turn.
De Obaldia started his turn with Sky Striker – Mobilize Engage!, adding Sky Striker Ace – Raye to his hand. He then activated Mystic Mine, but Carrillo responded with Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare. De Obaldia then activated Engage to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand, and Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye before moving to Battle Phase and attacking over Link Kuriboh. He then used the effect of Raye to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and attack directly, sending Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to his Graveyard. He Set three cards to his back row and Hayate turned into Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku so that during the End Phase he could add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand.
Carrillo drew for turn, but during his Standby Phase De Obaldia activated Artifact Lancea to prevent him from banishing for the turn. He Normal Summoned The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak and Link Summoned Galatea, the Orcust Automaton, then Link Summoned Longirsu, the Orcust Orchestrator next. He declared an attack with it over Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku, which let De Obaldia bring back Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He used its effect to Special Summon another Shizuku and during the End Phase added Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to his hand. Mystic Mine destroyed itself during the End Phase because both players controlled the same number of monsters.
As time approached, De Obaldia swiftly navigated his turn and got the damage he needed with Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, forcing his opponent’s defenses out and overcoming them to claim victory!
