June 7th, 2019

The World Qualifying Points Playoff is filled with star studded Duelists, but Galileleo Mauricio De Obaldia Soza has done what most could not even fathom. With four World Championship appearances, placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and in the Top 8, it makes sense why we see him in the Points Playoff today. He is representing Panama and has chosen Sky Striker as his weapon of choice. His opponent, Nelson Omar Andino Ochoa, is no slouch either. He is representing Honduras and has brought Danger! Orcust.

Only one can move onto the finals, who will it be?

Andino won the roll and chose to go first.

Duel One:

Andino Set two cards to his back row, then activated the effect of Danger! Tsuchinoko and discard Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon it and draw a card. Next, he Normal Summoned Blackwing – Zephyors the Elite and used both as materials to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus. He sent Knightmare Cerberus to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Mermaid and used its effect, discarding Orcust Cymbal Skeleton, to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare. He used both monsters to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton and then banished Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon another Orcust Knightmare before he Link Summoned The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche. He brought back Galatea, the Orcust Automaton with Orcust Cymbal Skeleton and then banished Orcust Knightmare to send World Legacy – “World Wand” to the Graveyard.  He shuffled back the Orcust Knightmare with Galatea, the Orcust Automaton to Set Orcust Crescendo, then Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and used its effect to attach Orcust Cymbal Skeleton. He used followed it up by activating The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche, but De Obaldia stopped it with Infinite Impermanence. Andino pressed on and Special Summoned Orcust Harp Horror with “World Wand”, then Link Summoned another Galatea, the Orcust Automaton using Orcust Harp Horror and Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star. With three back row Set, he ended his turn.

De Obaldia drew to five cards in hand. He activated Sky Striker Modules – Multirole, then Reinforcement of the Army to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye to his hand. He Normal Summoned her and Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate, using it to attack directly and send Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to the Graveyard. He entered Main Phase 2, and activated Terraforming to add Mystic Mine from the Deck to his hand. He used Multirole to send his Hayate to the Graveyard, emptying his field for Mystic Mine. He followed that up with Sky Striker – Mobilize Engage!, adding Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! to his hand and drawing a card. He used Jamming Waves to destroy Twin Twisters and followed it up with Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Orcust Crescendo. He Set three cards to his back row with Multirole and ending his turn. During the End Phase, Andino banished Crescendo to add Orcust Harp Horror to his hand.

Andino drew for turn, but without his Twin Twisters, he had no way to deal with Mystic Mine. He was forced to pass his turn.

De Obaldia drew and used his Set Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves!, blowing away a Set Instant Fusion. He then activated his Set Sky Striker – Mobilize Engage! to add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones and draw a card, before activating another copy from hand to add Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and draw another card! He used Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token, then immediately Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to add back Engage. He replayed Engage to grab another Shark Cannon and drew a third card for free. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate next, moving to Battle Phase and declared a direct attack. After snapping down two copies of Shark Cannon, Andino conceded!

De Obaldia rides the free card economy from Sky Striker – Mobilize Engage! straight to victory! Both Duelists began Side Decking, modifying their respective Decks to improve their matchup. Will the former World Champion eliminate Andino from the Points Playoff? Or can Andino fight back and win two consecutive games?

Andino chose to go first.

De Obaldia was feeling the pressure from Unending Nightmare, and Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye next to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. When he tried to attack directly, Andino used Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to stop it. De Obaldia then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kaina in Main Phase 2, using it to lock down The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari next and added back Sky Striker Modules – Multirole, then activated Terraforming but Andino stopped it with Orcust Crescendo. Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku came down next, De Obaldia Set a back row, and tried to end his turn, but during the End Phase Andino had his second Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to stop Shizuku’s effect.

Andino drew to two cards, then used Galatea, the Orcust Automaton to shuffle back a monster, but was thwarted by De Obaldia’s Set Infinite Impermanence. Andino used Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from his Deck, and activated Danger! Nessie discarding his other card to Special Summon itself and draw a fresh one. He Link Summoned Longirsu, the Orcust Orchestrator next using Danger! Nessie and Galatea, the Orcust Automaton, and activated its effect to get rid of Shizuku by shuffling back two of his banished cards. De Obaldia Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye next, then Andino followed it up by Xyz summoning Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star. He used its effect on Sky Striker Ace – Raye , which then activated tis effect in response to Special Summon Hayate. He Normal Summoned it and moved to Battle Phase, clearing away De Obaldia’s Hayate, which sent Hornet Drones to the Graveyard, and left him with 1900 Life Points.

De Obaldia drew for turn and Andino revealed his Set Anti-Spell Fragrance prompting the concession from De Obaldia!

Andino fights back with some powerful Trap Cards, easily taking the second Duel. One final game remains between these players and the finals, who will advance?
