North America WCQ: Dragon Duel Top 4 Feature Match – McIntee vs. Oswald
This is the most important Duel of these young Duelists’ lives. 11-year-old Colin McIntee from Lakeland, Florida is Dueling against 13-year-old Lucas Oswald from St. Louis, Missouri. Colin practices at Johnny B’s Cards, Comics, and Sports, an Official Tournament Store in Florida, while Lucas Duels at his local Official Tournament Store, Yeti Gaming. This is what they’ve been training for. The winner of this Match will earn an invitation to the 2019 World Championship in Berlin, Germany, along with paid travel and accommodations for him and a parent/guardian. The other Duelist will be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Colin McIntee won the die roll and chose to go first.
He activated Cynet Mining by discarding Called by the Grave and added Salamangreat Foxy from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Next, he Summoned Foxy and used its effect to add Salamangreat Circle from the top of his Deck to his hand. He activated the Circle to add Salamangreat Gazelle to his hand and then sent Foxy to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Balelynx. He used Balelynx’s effect and the effect of the Gazelle in his hand. He added Salamangreat Sanctuary to his hand with Balelynx and Special Summoned the Gazelle. He used the effect of the Gazelle to send Salamangreat Rage from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Sanctuary next and then sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf. Next, using his Sanctuary, he sent his Sunlight Wolf to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf. He used its effect, and when Oswald discarded Effect Veiler to negate its effect, McIntee Chained Called by the Grave to banish the Effect Veiler from the Duel and resolve the effect of his Sunlight Wolf. He grabbed Salamangreat Rage from his Graveyard with the Sunlight Wolf’s effect and then Set 3 cards to his back row before ending his turn.
Lucas Oswald had Salamangreat Jack Jaguar, Cynet Mining, Salamangreat Rage, and Salamangreat Roar in his hand, and then drew Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay for his turn. He activated Cynet Mining by discarding Roar and added Salamangreat Gazelle to his hand. He Normal Summoned Jack Jaguar and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Balelynx. He used its effect to add Sanctuary to his hand and then activated it. He used Sanctuary to send Balelynx to his Graveyard and Special Summon another copy, and Special Summoned Gazelle from his hand. He used its effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. Next, he sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf. He activated the effect of Jack Jaguar in his Graveyard, and McIntee Chained Salamangreat Rage. He targeted his own Sunlight Wolf so that he could try to destroy Sanctuary and Oswald’s Sunlight Wolf, but Oswald banished Balelynx from his Graveyard to protect his cards. He Special Summoned Jack Jaguar linked to Sunlight Wolf and then added Salamangreat Gazelle to his hand with his Sunlight Wolf’s effect. Next, he sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf and used its effect to add Roar to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.
McIntee drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and then discarded it in his Standby Phase to activate Twin Twisters and target Oswald’s 2 face-down cards for destruction. Oswald Chained Salamangreat Roar to stop the Twin Twisters. Next, McIntee activated Sunlight Wolf’s effect to add Rage to his hand. Oswald Chained his own Rage, but McIntee used the effect of Balelynx to banish it from his Graveyard and protect his cards. McIntee Set the Rage and passed his turn.
Oswald drew a card and then used Sunlight Wolf’s effect to return Salamangreat Rage to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Jack Jaguar from his Graveyard behind Sunlight Wolf. McIntee flipped Rage to destroy Oswald’s Sunlight Wolf and Gazelle, prompting Oswald to Special Summon Gazelle from his hand. He used its effect to send Salamangreat Spinny to his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Spinny from his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Salamangreat Miragestallio and detached an Xyz Material from it to activate its effect and Special Summon Salamangreat Falco from his Deck. He sent Miragestallio and Falco to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf and then used the effects of Miragestallio and Falco to return McIntee’s Sunlight Wolf to his Extra Deck and Set Roar from his Graveyard to his field. In Main Phase 2, Oswald used his Sunlight Wolf to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf and Set Called By the Grave and Salamangreat Rage.
McIntee drew a card and promptly conceded with no other cards in his hand and only a Salamangreat Sanctuary on his field.

Duel Two
McIntee started off Duel 2 by activating Cynet Mining. He discarded Effect Veiler to add Salamangreat Gazelle from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to send Salamangreat Roar from his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Gazelle to the Graveyard to Link Summon Balelynx and then used Balelynx’s effect to add Salamangreat Sanctuary from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the Sanctuary and used Balelynx to Link Summon another Balelynx. He Set Salamangreat Roar from his Graveyard to his field with its effect and then Set 1 more card to his back row before passing.
Oswald opened up with Infinite Impermanence, Super Polymerization, Cynet Mining, Salamangreat Foxy, and Salamangreat Gazelle.
He drew Phantazmay for his turn and then Normal Summoned Foxy. He activated its effect to reveal Falco, Foxy, and Effect Veiler from the top of his Deck and added the Foxy to his hand. Next, McIntee activated Artifact Sanctum! He Special Summoned Artifact Scythe from his Deck and activated its effect to stop Oswald from Special Summoning from his Extra Deck. Oswald attacked Balelynx with Foxy to try to destroy it and McIntee banished a Balelynx from his Graveyard to protect it. Oswald Set 2 cards face-down and passed his turn.
McIntee drew a card and then activated Fusion of Fire to fuse his own Balelynx with Oswald’s Foxy. He Fusion Summoned Salamangreat Violet Chimera and activated its effect to increase its ATK to 3550. He attacked directly with Violet Chimera and Artifact Scythe, dropping Oswald down to 2250 Life Points. He Normal Summoned Fowl in Main Phase 2 and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Violet Chimera to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf. Oswald Special Summoned Phantazmay from his hand. He drew 2 cards and returned 1 card from his hand to his Deck with Phantazmay’s effect. Next, he used Sunlight Wolf to Link Summon another Sunlight Wolf thanks to Sanctuary, and when he used the new Sunlight Wolf’s effect, Oswald flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate it.
Oswald drew Twin Twisters and activated it by discarding Foxy, but lost out to Salamangreat Roar. Oswald Special Summoned Gazelle from his hand and activated its effect, but lost out on the effect to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Oswald Normal Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring next, and combined it with Gazelle to Xyx Summon Miragestallio. He detached an Xyz Material to Special Summon Jack Jaguar from his Deck and sent Jack Jaguar and Miragestallio to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf. He used Miragestallio’s effect to return McIntee’s Sunlight Wolf to his Extra Deck. He Special Summoned Jack Jaguar linked to Sunlight Wolf next, and used Sunlight Wolf’s effect to return Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to his hand. Phantazmay attacked and destroyed Scythe, and then direct attacks from Sunlight Wolf and Jack Jaguar dropped McIntee down to 3700. Next, Oswald activated Super Polymerization by discarding a card! He fused Sunlight Wolf with Jack Jaguar to Summon Salamangreat Violet Chimera and activated its effect to increase its ATK to 4600. A direct attack from Violet Chimera finished off the rest of McIntee’s Life Points and knocked him out of the tournament!
