Round 3 Feature Match: Adrian Madriz Espinoza vs. Joaquin Vicente Dominguez Bautista

Adrian Madriz Espinoza is the 2019 Mexican National Champion and has earned VIP status for the tournament which awarded him two Round byes! He is entering Round 3 with a 2-0 record and has chosen a combo-centric Danger! Crusadia Guardragon strategy to Duel with this weekend. His opponent is Joaquin Vicente Dominguez Bautista, who has brought a pure Trickstar Deck tries to control the game with a variety of traps. Who will win in the classic combo versus control matchup?

Adrian won the roll and chose to go first.

Duel One:

Madriz began with Crusadia Reclusia and immediately sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Crusadia Magius, he followed it up with the effect of Danger! Nessie which discarded Chaos Dragon Levianeer to let him draw a card. When he Special Summoned Nessie he was able to add Crusadia Aboria thanks to Crusadia Magius’s effect. After that, he Special Summoned Crusadia Draco and Link Summoned Guardragon Elpy using Danger! Nessie and and the new monster. He used its effect to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck. He Link Summoned Crusadia Spatha and then used all of his monsters to Link Summon Saryuja Skull Dread! He drew cards from its effect, then Special Summoned Black Dragon Collapserpent from his hand and used it as a material to Link Summon Guardragon Pisty. He used its effect to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Graveyard and used its effect to Special Summon Crusadia Draco, then used both of those monsters to Link Summon Guardragon Agarpain. Next, Agarpain used its effect to Special Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss and then he used all of his other monsters to Link Summon another copy of Saryuja Skull Dread! He drew for its effect before activating Sekka’s Light to draw even more cards! He banished Sekka’s Light to put a card from his hand back into his Deck, to draw yet another card. He Special Summoned Thunder Dragonduo next and activated Danger! Bigfoot in his hand, discarding Danger! Tsuchinoko, to Special Summon itself and draw a card. He chose not to activate the effect of Danger! Tsuchinoko, then used Saryuja Skull Dread to Special Summon Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay from his hand! He Xyz Summoned Hope Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy  next using Thunder Dragonduo and Danger! Bigfoot before using Saryuja Skull Dread and Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres!

Dominguez began with Trickstar Light Stage, using its effect to add Trickstar Corobane. He Special Summoned it and declared an attack on Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, but once Madriz activated the effect of his Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy Dominguez conceded!

Madriz pulls out all of the stops and takes game one in quick fashion. Can Dominguez win the back two?

Dominguez chose to go first in the second Duel.

Duel Two:

Dominguez began with two cards to his back row and ended his turn.

Madriz drew to six cards and started with Crusadia Draco and immediately Link Summoned Crusadia Magius. He activated the effect of Danger! Jackalope and discarded Sekka’s Light to Special Summon it, drawing a card. This triggered the effect of Crusadia Magius which let him add another Crusadia Draco to his hand. He Link Summoned Crusadia Spatha next and Special Summoned Crusadia Draco from his hand, then Link Summoned Guardragon Pisty. He used the effect of Crusadia Spatha, but Dominguez fought back with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy it! Madriz pressed on and Special Summoned Chaos Dragon Levianeer banishing two LIGHT and one DARK monster, prompting Dominguez to use Called by the Grave on his Crusadia Draco before it and Crackdown went to the Graveyard. He activated the effect of Sekka’s Light in his Graveyard to banish it and shuffle back a card to draw a new card, then activated a Sekka’s Light from his hand to draw two more cards. He Normal Summoned Omni Dragon Brotaur next and used it and Chaos Dragon Levianeer to Link Summon Guardragon Agarpain and Special Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss from his Extra Deck. He moved to Battle Phase next, and after direct attacks put Dominguez down to 2300 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he used both of his Guardragons to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres and end his turn.

Dominguez drew and gave a heavy sigh before he extended the handshake!

Adrian Madriz Espinoza’s impressive luck leads him to a quick 2-0 victory, putting him at an undefeated record thanks to his byes as he advanced to the fourth Round!
