Top 16 Feature Match: Gaetan Georges vs. James Kim
Welcome to the Top 16 of YCS Knoxville! Only 16 Duelists remain in the tournament, and each one of them is just 4 Match wins away from becoming a YCS champion! In this round’s Feature Match, we have Gaetan Georges from Queens, New York Dueling against James Kim from Toronto, Canada. This Match pits Danger! Thunder Dragons against Danger! Thunder Dragons in a Match that will decide which Duelist advances to the Top 8. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Georges opened up Duel 1 with Chaos Dragon Levianeer, Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, Danger!? Jackalope, Thunder Dragon, and Batteryman Solar.
He Summoned Solar to the field and activated its effect to send Thunder Dragonroar from his Deck to his Graveyard. He then discarded Thunder Dragon from his hand to add 2 more copies of it from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the effect of Danger!? Jackalope?, randomly discarding Tsuchinoko from his hand. He Special Summoned the Jackalope, drew another Jackalope, and then Special Summoned Tsuchinoko to his field with Tsuchinoko’s effect. He activated the effect of another Jackalope next, randomly discarding the Jackalope. He used its effect to Special Summon Danger! Bigfoot! from his Deck. He sent all 4 of his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Saryuja Skull Dread and activated its effect to draw Omni Dragon Brotaur, Allure of Darkness, Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay, and The Melody of Awakening Dragons from the top of his Deck. He sent 3 cards from his hand to the bottom of his Deck to complete its effect. Next, he Special Summoned Brotaur from his hand with Saryuja’s effect and activated its effect. He discarded Allure of Darkness to add Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon to his hand and then sent Brotaur to his Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Elpy. He used Elpy’s effect to Special Summon Eclipse Wyvern from his Deck and then sent Wyvern to his Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Pisty. He used his Eclipse Wyvern’s effect to banish Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair from his Deck. He placed Chaos Emperor in his Pendulum Zone and paid 1000 Life Points to send it to his Extra Deck and return Diabolos to his hand. Then, he used Pisty’s effect to Special Summon Wyvern from his Graveyard. He sent Wyvern and Saryuja to his Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Agarpain and used its effect to Special Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss from his Extra Deck. He used Wyvern’s effect to banish Phantazmay from his Deck. Next, he sent all of his monsters except for Hot Red to his Graveyard to Link Summon Saryuja. He Special Summoned Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon from his Extra Deck next, by banishing Eclipse Wyvern and Thunder Dragonroar from his Graveyard. He used his Wyvern’s effect to add Phantazmay to his hand and Special Summoned Thunder Dragondark with Dragonroar’s effect.
Kim promptly conceded to maximize how much time was left in the round.
Duel Two
Kim started off Duel 2 by activating the effect of a Danger! Nessie! in his hand.
He randomly discarded Phantom Skyblaster to Special Summon Nessie in Defense Position and draw a card. He passed his turn with no other play.
Georges opened up with Danger!? Jackalope, White Dragon Wyverburster, Chaos Dragon Levianeer, Thunder Dragonhawk, and 2 copies of Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay. He activated the effect of a Jackalope and randomly discarded a Phantazmay to Special Summon it and draw another Wyverburster. He banished Phantazmay from his Graveyard to Special Summon Wyverburster from his hand and then sent Wyverburster and Jackalope to the Graveyard to Link Summon Beat Cop from the Underworld. He used Wyverburster’s effect to add Black Dragon Collapserpent from his Deck to his hand and then banished Wyverburster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Collapserpent. He Tributed Collapserpent to Summon Dragonhawk and then used Collapserpent’s effect to add Wyverburster from his Deck to his hand. He sent Dragonhawk and Beat Cop from his field to his Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn and then banished a LIGHT and 2 DARK monsters, including Dragonhawk, from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer. He used Dragonhawk’s effect to shuffle his hand back into his Deck and draw Bigfoot, Jackalope, and Wyverburster. He activated the effect of Bigfoot and randomly discarded the Bigfoot, using its effect to destroy Nessie. Kim Special Summoned Omni Dragon Brotaur from his hand and used its effect to discard Thunder Dragondark and add Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his Deck to his hand with Brotaur’s effect. Next, Georges activated the effect of his Jackalope and randomly discarded it. He used Jackalope’s effect to Special Summon Danger! Nessie! from his Deck in Defense Position. He attacked Brotaur with Unicorn to destroy it, and then attacked directly with Levianeer, dropping Kim down to 5000 Life Points. Georges sent Unicorn and Nessie to the Graveyard to Link Summon Saryuja and then sent Saryuja and Levianeer to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres.
Kim banished 3 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer and used its effect to shuffle Georges’s hand into his Deck. Then, he used his banished Thunder Dragondark’s effect to add Dragonhawk to his hand. He used its effect to Special Summon Thunder Dragondark and then Tributed Dragondark to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus from his Extra Deck. He Special Summoned Darkest Diabolos from his hand along with it. Colossus attacked Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, and Georges used his Seal’s effect to Tribute it and return Colossus to the Extra Deck. He completed the Seal’s effect by Special Summoning Eclipse Wyvern from his Deck in Defense Position with 0 ATK and 0 DEF. Diabolos attacked and destroyed Eclipse Wyvern, and Georges used its effect to banish Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay. Kim continued performing Link Summons and using his monster effects; but once he had Beat Cop and Elpy on the field, Georges conceded with no cards in his hand or on his field.

Duel Three
Georges opened up Duel 3 with White Dragon Wyverburster, 2 copies of Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, Danger!? Jackalope?, and Thunder Dragonroar. He used Jackalope’s effect and randomly discarded Tsuchinoko. He Special Summoned Jackalope to the field, drew a card, and then Special Summoned Tsuchinoko. He then Tributed Jackalope to Summon Dragonroar and sent both monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Beat Cop. He used Dragonroar’s effect to Special Summon Thunder Dragondark and then banished Jackalope from his Graveyard to Special Summon Wyverburster to his field. He sent Wyverburster to his Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Elpy and then used Wyverburster’s effect to add Collapserpent to his hand. He Special Summoned Collapserpent by banishing Wyverburster from his Graveyard and then sent Collapserpent to his Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Pisty. He used Collapserpent’s effect to add another Wyverburster to his hand and then used Elpy’s effect to Special Summon Eclipse Wyvern from his Deck. He sent Eclipse Wyvern and Beat Cop to the Graveyard to Link Summon Triple Burst Dragon and used Eclipse Wyvern’s effect to banish Levianeer from his Deck. He used Pisty’s effect to Special Summon Wyvern back from his Graveyard and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Triple Burst to Link Summon Agarpain. He used Wyvern’s effect to banish Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon from his Deck and then used Agarpain’s effect to Special Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss from his Extra Deck. Then, he sent all of his monsters except for Hot Red to his Graveyard to Link Summon Saryuja and activated the effect of Dragondark to add Dragonhawk from his Deck to his hand. He drew 4 cards with Saryuja’s effect and returned 3 cards from his hand to the bottom of his Deck. He kept Thunder Dragonduo, Jackalope, Wyverburster, Thunder Dragon, and Dragonhawk in his hand. He discarded the Thunder Dragon to add 2 more copies of it from his Deck to his hand and then banished Eclipse Wyvern and Beat Cop from his Graveyard to Special Summon Thunder Dragonduo. He added Chaos Emperor to his hand with Wyvern’s effect and Kim discarded Dragondark from his hand to grab another copy of it from his Deck. Georges activated Chaos Emperor in his Pendulum Zone and gave up 1000 Life Points to add Levianeer to his hand, and then banished 3 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his hand and shuffle a card from Kim’s hand back into his Deck. Georges used Saryuja’s effect to Special Summon Thunder Dragon from his hand next, and then Tributed it to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus from his Extra Deck. Then, he discarded Thunder Dragonhawk to Special Summon Thunder Dragonroar from his Graveyard and Tributed Dragonroar to Special Summon another Colossus. He combined Colossus with Dragonduo to Xyz Summon Number 38: Hope Harbinger Titanic Galaxy and then Link Summoned Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres.
Kim Tributed Georges’s Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss, Number 38, and Thunder Dragon Colossus to Summon The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode to Georges’s field! Next, he used Sekka’s Light to draw 2 cards. He banished it from his Graveyard to shuffle Batteryman Solar from his hand into his Deck and draw a card. He discarded Dragonhawk from his hand to Special Summon Dragondark from his Graveyard next, and then Tributed Dragondark to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus. He used his Dragondark’s effect to add Dragonduo to his hand and then attacked Hieratic Seal; but Georges Tributed the Seal to return Colossus to the Extra Deck and Special Summon Darkest Diabolos to his field in Defense Position with 0 ATK and 0 DEF. Kim Special Summoned Dragonduo next and Tributed it to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus. He Then banished Dragonduo from his Graveyard to Special Summon Wyverburster in Defense Position.
Georges drew Artifact Lancea. He Normal Summoned Jackalope and then sent it to the Graveyard along with his other 2 monsters to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He discarded Thunder Dragon from his hand to activate its effect and return Colossus to the Extra Deck. Next, he banished Dragondark from his Graveyard to Special Summon Wyverburster from his hand, and used Dragondark’s effect to add Thunder Dragonroar from his Deck to his hand. He discarded Dragonroar to add Dragonduo from his Graveyard to his hand and then banished Colossus and Dragonhawk from his Graveyard to Special Summon Dragonduo. Next, he banished Thunder Dragon and Jackalope from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon. He Link Summoned Saryuja Skull Dread by combining Unicorn and Wyverburster. He used Wyverburster to add Collapserpent to his hand and Special Summoned it. He attacked Kim’s Wyverburster with his own Collapserpent to destroy it, and Kim Special Summoned Brotaur from his hand used its effect. He discarded Levianeer from his hand to add another Levianeer to his hand. Dragonduo attacked and destroy Brotaur next, and then Skull Dread and Chaos Emperor attacked directly.
Kim drew a card and Georges Tributed Lancea from his hand to activate its effect. Kim used Bigfoot’s effect and randomly discarded Bigfoot; but he conceded upon realizing that no matter which card he destroyed with Bigfoot’s effect, he would lose on the following turn.
Gaetan Georges suffers a huge setback at the hands of The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode, but manages to recover and still win the final Duel! Georges is moving on to the Top 8!
