Tyler Cappis from Lexington, Illinois is Dueling against James Armband from Chicago, Illinois in this Round 1 Feature Match! Both Duelists had just enough points to enter this weekends UDS Invitational, and are 2 of the 77 competitors that entered without a BYE in Round 1. Their path to the Finals will be tougher than it will be for the 198 competitors that entered with a BYE, but that doesn’t mean they won’t get there. Cappis is using a Dinosaur Rokket Deck enhanced by the new cards in Structure Deck: Rokket Revolt, and Armband is using a Thunder Dragon Danger! Deck, similar to the ones that were popular in the previous Advanced Format. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Armband started off Duel 1 by discarding Thunder Dragon from his hand to grab 2 copies from his Deck.

Next, he Normal Summoned Crusadia Reclusia and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Crusadia Magius. He discarded Thunder Dragonhawk from his hand to Special Summon Thunder Dragon linked to Magius next, and used Magius’s effect to add Crusadia Draco from his Deck to his hand. Next, he sent Magius and Thunder Dragon to his Graveyard to Link Summon PSY-Framelord Lambda. He Special Summoned Draco from his hand next, and used its effect to return Reclusia to his hand; then he Special Summoned Reclusia linked to Lambda. He Link Summoned Guardragon Elpy next, and then combined his other 2 monsters to Link Summon Triple Burst Dragon. He used Elpy’s effect to Special Summon Omni Dragon Brotaur and then used Brotaur’s effect to discard Thunder Dragon and add Black Dragon Collapserpent from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Collapserpent by banishing Magius from his Graveyard and then combined all 4 of his monsters to Link Summon Saryuja Skull Dread. He activated the effects of Saryuja and Collapserpent, adding White Dragon Wyverburster from his Deck to his hand and then drawing 4 cards from his Deck with Saryuja and returning 3 cards from his hand to the bottom. He Special Summoned Wyverburster by banishing Elpy from his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his hand with Saryuja. He Link Summoned Guardragon Pisty next, and then Link Summoned Guardragon Agarpain. He used Agarpain’s effect to Special Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. He used Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon’s effect to Special Summon Triple Burst Dragon from his Graveyard next, and then Link Summoned another Saryuja Skull Dread by combining all of his monsters except for his Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. He activated Saryuja’s effect to draw 4 cards and return 3 to his Deck and then Special Summoned Thunder Dragon from his hand with Saryuja. He Tributed it to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus from his Extra Deck, linked to Saryuja, and then banished 3 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer. He used its effect to shuffle Miscellaneousaurus from Cappis’s hand back into his Deck. Next, Armband sent Saryuja and Levianeer to the Graveyard to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres and ended his turn.

Cappis drew a card and then had Rokket Tracer, Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms, Dragon Shrine, Quick Launch, and Metalrokket Dragon in his hand. He activated Dragon Shrine to send Flamvell Guard and Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson to the Graveyard, and then activated Quick Launch to Special Summon Rokket Synchron from his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned Rokket Tracer. He Tuned his monsters together to Synchro Summon Ib the World Chalice Justicar, and then paid half of his Life Points to Special Summon Destrudo from his Graveyard. Armband then activated the effect of his Hieratic Seal to Tribute it and return Destrudo to the bottom of the Deck. He Special Summoned Brotaur from his Deck with the Hieratic Seal and then used its effect to discard Defrag Dragon and add another Levianeer to his hand. Cappis banished Rokket Tracer ad Rokket Synchron from his Graveyard to Special Summon Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms, and Armband used Hot Red’s effect to negate the effect of Ib. Cappis sent Ib and Tempest to the Graveyard to Link Summon PSY-Framelord Lambda. He used Ib’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon World Chalice Guardragon and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Elpy. He then banished World Chalice Guardragon from his Graveyard to Special Summon Flamvell Guard and sent the Guard to the Graveyard to Link Summon Pisty. He used Elpy’s effect to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and then used Red-Eyes’s effect to Special Summon Flamvell Guard back from the Graveyard. He Link Summoned Saryuja next, and used its effect to draw 4 cards and return 3 to his Deck. Next, he used Pisty’s effect to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, and after a flurry of plays involving additional Link Summon, he Summoned Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon with Agarpain and then Link Summoned another Saryuja. He used Saryuja’s effect to draw 4 cards and return 3 to the Deck and then used Saryuja’s effect to Special Summon Rokket Tracer from his hand. He used Monster Reborn to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon next and then used Red-Eyes’s effect to Special Summon Flamvell Guard from his Graveyard. He attacked Hot Red with Crystal Wing, using his Crystal Wing’s effect to increase its ATK and win the battle. Flamvell Guard attacked and destroyed Brotaur, and then Saryuja and Red-Eyes attacked the Defense Position Thunder Dragon Colossus, but Armband protected it twice by banishing 2 Thunder Dragons from his Graveyard. Cappis used Tracer’s effect to destroy the Guard, and after a few more plays, he had Hieratic Seal, Crystal Wing, and Borreload Savage Dragon on his field with Saryuja Skull Dread equipped to the Borreload Savage.

Armband banished 2 LIGHT monsters and a DARK monster from his Graveyard, including Thunder Dragonhawk, to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his hand. He activated the effect of Levianeer as Chain Link 1 and Dragonhawk as Chain Link 2. Cappis activated the effect of Borreload as Chain Link 3 to negate the Hawk’s effect, and then Tributed the Seal to return Colossus to the Extra Deck. Levianeer’s effect destroyed Crystal Wing and Borreload, and the effect of Hieratic Seal allowed Cappis to Special Summon Absorouter Dragon from his Deck. Armband Special Summoned Thunder Dragonduo from his hand next, by banishing Levianeer and Wyverburster from his Graveyard. He attacked Absorouter with Thunder Dragonduo to destroy it, and Cappis activated his Absorouter’s effect to add Silverrokket Dragon to his hand. Armband used his Dragonduo’s effect. He Tributed Dragonduo to Special Summon Colossus in Main Phase 2 and then ended his turn.

Cappis drew Jurrac Aeolo and conceded, unable to make any effective plays.

Duel Two

Cappis opened up Duel 2 with Carboneddon, Souleating Oviraptor, Absorouter Dragon, and 2 copies of Fossil Dig.

He activated Fossil Dig to add Miscellaneousaurus from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned his Oviraptor. He activated its effect to add another Oviraptor from his Deck to his hand and then activated another Fossil Dig to add the third Ovirpator to his hand. He activated the effect of Miscellaneousaurus to get it into the Graveyard and then banished it to Special Summon Jurrac Aeolo from his Deck. He sent Aeolo and Ovirpator to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Ib the World Chalice Justicar and used Ib’s effect to add World Legacy Guardragon from his Deck to his hand. He ended his turn with no further play.

Armband activated the effect of Danger! Mothman! in his hand and randomly discarded it. He used its effect, allowing both Duelists to draw a card and discard a card. Next, he banished Mothman to Special Summon Wyverburster and activated the effect of Danger! Nessie! in his hand; but this time he randomly discarded the Nessie! Armband used Nessie’s effect to add Danger! Jackalope!? to his hand. He activated Jackalope’s effect next, and randomly discarded a Gamma and Special Summoned Jackalope to the field before drawing a card. He activated the effect of another Nessie in his hand next, and discarded Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to Special Summon it and draw a card. Next, he sent Nessie and Jackalope to the Graveyard to Link Summon Lambda and sent Wyverburster to the Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Elpy. He used Wyverburster’s effect to add Collapserpent to his hand and then Normal Summoned Brotaur. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Pisty and then used Elpy’s effect to Special Summon Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his Deck. He activated the effect of his Red-Eyes to Special Summon Brotaur back from his Graveyard and used its effect to discard Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and add Chaos Dragon Levianeer to his hand. He sent Red-Eyes and Lambda to the Graveyard to Link Summon Triple Burst Dragon and then used Pisty’s effect to Special Summon Red-Eyes back from his Graveyard. He sent Pisty, Brotaur, Triple Burst, and Elpy to the Graveyard to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon and then used Red-Eyes’s effect to Special Summon Triple Burst Dragon back to the field. Cappis conceded, realizing he was defeated that turn.
