Welcome to Round 13 – the final Swiss Round of the UDS Invitational – Summer 2019! For this final Swiss Round Feature Match, we have Ryan Fletcher from St. Petersburg, Florida Dueling against Jimmy Nguyen from Dallas, Texas at Table 11! Fletcher is currently 8-2-2 in the tournament, and Nguyen is currently 8-3-1. Both Duelists will need a win here to have a shot at the Top 16. Fletcher is using a Burning Abyss Danger! Deck made possible by Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss, that features Block Dragon and other EARTH monsters to create unbeatable fields. Nguyen is using Sky Strikers. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Nguyen started off Duel 1 by activating Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and Setting Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster.

He used Multirole to send Eagle Booster to the Graveyard and then activated Pot of Desires. He banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. Next, he activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to the Graveyard, and Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He sent Raye to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and used Kagari’s effect to return Engage to his hand. He activated it to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand and draw a card, and then sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set a card to his back row and then used Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase to add another Widow Anchor to his hand. He activated the Widow Anchor targeting Shizuku and then Set the Widow Anchor and Engage from his Graveyard in the End Phase using his Multirole’s effect.

Fletcher opened up with Performage Damage Juggler, Block Dragon, Danger! Nessie!, Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Danger!? Tsuchinoko?. He drew Danger!? Jackalope? for his turn and then Normal Summoned Tour Guide. He activated its effect, but lost out to a Widow Anchor that got banished because it was Set by Multirole. He used the effect of Tsuchinoko and randomly discarded the Tsuchinoko, Special Summoning it to the field with its effect. He used Jackalope’s effect next, and then randomly discarded the Jackalope. He used its effect to Special Summon Danger! Nessie! from his Deck and then used Nessie’s effect in his hand. He randomly discarded Damage Juggler, Special Summoned Nessie, and drew a card. He banished Damage Juggler from his Graveyard to activate its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he combined Tour Guide with Tsuchinoko to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and used its effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Gigantes, and Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and used his Rhino Warrior’s effect to send Edge Imp Sabres to the Graveyard. He put a card on top of his Deck to Special Summon the Sabres back from the Graveyard and then sent Dante, Edge Imp Sabres, and Nessie to the Graveyard to Link Summon Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Chaos! He used Dante’s effect to return Cir to his hand and then attacked Shizuku to destroy it in battle and drop Nguyen down to 6800 Life Points. Nguyen Special Summoned Raye, and Fletcher used his Black Luster Soldier’s effect to banish Raye from the Duel!

Nguyen drew a card and then flipped Engage. He added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to his hand with its effect and drew a card from his Deck. He flipped Widow Anchor next to target Nessie, and then Chained Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token to the field before taking control of Nessie. Next, he Normal Summoned Raye and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He used his Token and Nessie to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix and then combined Phoenix with Hayate to Link Summon Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior. He Set Jamming Waves and then used Ningirsu’s effect to send it to the Graveyard along with Black Luster Soldier. In the End Phase, he Set Eagle Booster and Widow Anchor with Multirole.

Fletcher Summoned Mathematician and activated its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he sent a card from his hand to the top of his Deck to Special Summon Edge Imp Sabres and used his 2 monsters to Link Summon Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss. Nguyen flipped Widow Anchor and targeted Cherubini to negate its effect and take control of it. Next, Fletcher banished 3 EARTH monsters to Special Summon Block Dragon. He attacked Ningirsu with Block Dragon, destroying both monsters in battle, and then used Block Dragon’s effect to add Gigantes and Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo to his hand. In the End Phase, Cherubini returned to Fletcher, and Nguyen Set Hornet Drones from his Graveyard with the effect of Multirole.

Nguyen activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon another Token to the field and used the Token to Link Summon Hayate. He attacked Cherubini with Hayate to destroy it in battle and then used Hayate’s effect to send Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Hayate to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku next, and then added Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon from his Deck to his hand with Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase. He activated it to banish Block Dragon from Fletcher’s Graveyard and then used Multirole to Set Area Zero and Shark Cannon from his Graveyard.

Fletcher drew Gallis the Star Beast and then banished an EARTH monster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Gigantes. Next, he Special Summoned Gallis by sending Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard, inflicting 1400 points of damage to Nguyen. He paid half of his Life Points to try to Special Summon Destrudo by targeting Gigantes, but lost out to Shark Cannon when Nguyen flipped it to banish Destrudo from the Graveyard. Next, Fletcher Normal Summoned Fossil Dyna. Gigantes attacked Shizuku, and Nguyen flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Fossil Dyna before Shizuku was destroyed. Nguyen Special Summoned Raye from his Graveyard in Defense Position with its effect, and Fletcher ended his turn.

Nguyen switched Raye into Attack Position and flipped Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero. He attacked Fossil Dyna with Raye to destroy it and then used Raye’s effect to Tribute it and Special Summon Shizuku. He attacked and destroyed Gallis with Shizuku. In Main Phase 2, he Set Metalfoes Fusion to his back row and used Area Zero to destroy it and add a copy of Raye to his hand. He shuffled the Metalfoes Fusion back into his Deck to draw a card and then Set a card to his back row.

Fletcher drew Tsuchinoko and then Nguyen flipped There Can Be Only One. Fletcher Normal Summoned Tsuchinoko and then attacked Shizuku to destroy it and inflict 100 points of damage to Nguyen, allowing Nguyen to Special Summon Raye from his Graveyard.

Nguyen attacked Tsuchinoko with Raye to destroy it and then used Raye’s effect to Special Summon Hayate. Hayate attacked directly, wiping out Fletcher’s last 950 Life Points!

Duel Two

Fletcher opened up Duel 2 with Danger! Nessie!, Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Block Dragon, and Sekka’s Light.

He used Sekka’s Light to draw 2 cards and then Normal Summoned his Rhino. He used his Tsuchinoko’s effect to randomly discard Jackalope from his hand and then Special Summoned the Tsuchinoko and drew a card. He used Jackalope’s effect to Special Summon another Tsuchinoko from his Deck. He Link Summoned Cherubini next, and used his Rhino’s effect to send Edge Imp Sabres from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Cherubini to send Graff to his Graveyard and used its effect to Special Summon Cir linked to Cherubini. He brought back Sabres and Xyz Summoned Dante next, and used its effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. He used the effect of Nessie in his hand to randomly discard Block Dragon, Special Summon Nessie, and draw a card. He banished Sekka’s Light from his Graveyard to swap a card in his hand with one in his Deck and then activated the effect of a Nessie in his hand. He randomly discarded another Block Dragon, drew a card, and Special Summoned Nessie. He banished 3 EARTH monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Block Dragon and then Link Summoned Saryuja Skull Dread. He used the effects of all of his monsters, and drew 4 cards with Saryuja and returned 3 to his Deck. After a flurry of plays, Fletcher built a field of Naturia Beast (by using Glow-Up Bulb as a Tuner), Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, Saryuja Skull Dread, Block Dragon, and Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax after using the effect of Saryuja Skull Dread three times in one turn!

Nguyen drew a card and conceded, unable to break through Fletcher’s field. Nguyen chose to go second in Duel 3!

Duel Three

Fletcher opened up Duel 3 with Psychic Wheeleder, Fiendish Rhino Warrior, Gallis the Star Beast, Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Sekka’s Light. He used the effect of Gallis, sending Gallis from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon it to the field and inflict 600 points of damage to Nguyen. He Summoned Rhino Warrior next, and Link Summoned Cherubini. He used Rhino’s effect to send Sabres to his Graveyard and then used Cherubini’s effect, sending Graff to the Graveyard. He used Graff’s effect to Special Summon Cir from his Deck, linked to Cherubini, and then tried to activate Sekka’s Light, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Fletcher Special Summoned Farfa next, and combined it with Cir to Xyz Summon Dante. He used its effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard, and then banished Sekka’s Light from his Graveyard to shuffle a card from his hand back into his Deck and draw a Fossil Dyna. He Special Summoned Block Dragon from his Graveyard next, and then after a couple of quick plays, Link Summoned Saryuja and used the effects of the monsters he sent to his Graveyard. Saryuja’s effect was negated by Infinite Impermanence, and Fletcher resolved his remaining effects. He Summoned Dante to the field with Cir’s effect and then Xyz Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal over it.

Nguyen used Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard and then used Reinforcement of the Army to add Raye to his hand. He used Shark Cannon to banish Block Dragon from the Graveyard and then shuffled Metalfoes Fusion from his Graveyard into his Deck to draw a card.  He Summoned Raye and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kaina. He used its effect to target Beatrice, and then Link Summoned Hayate. He attacked directly with Hayate, and used Hayate’s effect to send Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his Graveyard. He then Link Summoned Kagari and used Kagari’s effect to return Engage to his hand. He used Engage to add Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole from his Deck to his hand and draw a card and then activated the Multirole. He sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Shizuku and then added Widow Anchor to his hand with Shizuku in the End Phase. He activated it, targeting Saryuja, and Fletcher Chained Beatrice’s effect. He Set Widow Anchor in the End Phase with Multirole.

Fletcher made a couple of quick plays before Link Summoning Knightmare Phoenix and used its effect to target Widow Anchor. Nguyen Chained it to take control of Beatrice, and then Nguyen made more rapid plays with just a minute left in the round! He Link Summoned Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Chaos and Beat Cop from the Underworld, and Special Summoned Block Dragon to the field in the blink of an eye! He entered his Battle Phase and time in the round was called! He attacked Shizuku with Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Chaos, inflicting enough damage to Nguyen’s Life Points to drop him below Fletcher’s own Life Point total! Fletcher was declared the winner of the Duel, and the Match at the end of the Battle Phase!

Ryan Fletcher is moving on to the Top 16!
