UDS Invitational Indianapolis, IN: Round 4 Feature Match – Wesley Loveland vs. Robert McNett

August 17th, 2019

We’re looking at new and cool things, and new HERO Decks bolstered by the cards in Battles of Legend: Hero’s Revenge fit the bill!  Wesley Loveland from Wisconsin is currently 2-1 with his HERO Deck taking on Robert McNett with his Orcust Deck.  McNett is the co-owner of Epik Cards and Games, an Official Tournament Store based in Hurst, Texas, so he’ll have some people following his progress back home!  Orcust took a hit from the previous Forbidden and Limited List update, losing The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche while HEROs got a second copy of Elemental HERO Stratos in addition to the newest cards from Battles of Legend: Hero’s Revenge.  Which Deck will come out on top?  It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

McNett won the roll and elected to go first.  He started by Special Summoning Tenyi Spirit – Vishuda.  He then Normal Summoned Mathematician, using its effect to send Orcust Harp Horror from the Deck to the Graveyard.  He sent both monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus who swapped in for Knightmare Mermaid whose effect discarded Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from the Deck.  He used both monsters to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  He used Orcust Harp Horror’s effect to Special Summon another Orcust Knightmare.  He used both Galatea and Orcust Knightmare to Link Summon another Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  He then activated Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to Special Summon the first Galatea back to the field.  He then continued his sequence and ended with the following field:

Loveland had a hand of E – Emergency Call, Elemental HERO Honest Neos, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Vision HERO Vyon and Elemental HERO Stratos.  He drew another E – Emergency Call for turn.  He activated E – Emergency Call and added Elemental HERO Solid Soldier from his Deck to his hand.  Next, he Normal Summoned Solid Soldier and tried to use the effect but McNett chained Orcust Crescendo to negate and banish Solid Soldier.  He had no way to play out of this scenario, so he conceded the Duel.

Duel 2

Loveland elected to go first.  He started with a hand of Destiny HERO – Malicious, Vision HERO Increase, PSY-Framegear Gamma, Elemental HERO Stratos and Fusion Destiny.  He activated Fusion Destiny.  McNett chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring but Loveland chained PSY-Framegear Gamma to negate McNett’s Ash Blossom & Joyous SpringPSY-Framegear Gamma came out from the hand, PSY-Frame Driver came out from the Deck.  Then Loveland sent Destiny HERO – Celestial and Destiny HERO – Dynatag to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Destiny HERO – Dystopia whose effect targeted Celestial in the Graveyard and burned McNett for 1600!  Loveland then Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Stratos whose effect added Vision HERO Faris from Deck to hand.  Elemental HERO Stratos and Dystopia were sent to Link Summon Xtra HERO Cross Crusader!  Loveland used its effect to Special Summon Dysopia back to the field while McNett Chained Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay from his hand, Special Summoning it, drawing 2 and shuffling 1 back.  Loveland then activated Faris from his hand, discarding Destiny HERO – Malicious to Special Summon Faris from his hand.  He then used Faris’ effect to put Vision HERO Increase from his Deck into the Spell & Trap Zone as Continuous Trap.  Increase’s effect sent Faris to the Graveyard to Special Summon itself.  Then Increase’s effect Special Summoned Vision HERO Vyon from the Deck.  Vyon’s effect sent Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from the Deck to the Graveyard.  Its effect let Loveland add Elemental HERO Honest Neos from his Deck to his hand.  Vyon’s other effect let Loveland banish the Faris from his Graveyard to add Polymerization from his Deck to his hand.  He then banished Dynatag from his Graveyard to use its effect on Dystopia.  In the End Phase he banished the PSY-Framegear Gamma and PSY-Frame Driver from his field.

McNett activated Foolish Burial sending, Orcust Knightmare.  He then activated Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, with Loveland hitting Orcust Harp HorrorDanger!? Tsuchinoko? came out and McNett drew a card.  McNett Normal Summoned Jet Synchron and both Danger!? Tsuchinoko? and Jet Synchron were used to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus.  Its effect was used to target Loveland’s Dystopia.  Loveland chained Dystopia and McNett chained Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay to negate and destroy Dystopia.  McNett then activated Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton from the Deck.  He used Orcust Cymbal Skeleton and Knightmare Cerberus to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  He then Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star on top of Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  He used Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star’s effect to send Loveland’s Cross Crusader to the Graveyard.  He then used more effects and went into the Battle Phase with this field:

Galatea attacked and destroyed Loveland’s Vyon.  In Main Phase 2, McNett used 2 Galateas to Link Summon Longirsu, the Orcust Orchestrator whose effect made Loveland send Vision HERO Increase from the field to the Graveyard.

Loveland drew Elemental HERO Stratos for turn.  He activated Destiny HERO – Malicious in the Graveyard, banishing It to Special Summon another one from the Deck.  He then Normal Summoned Elemental HERO Stratos and used the effect to destroy Spell/Traps but McNett chained Orcust Crescendo to negate and banish Elemental HERO Stratos.  He then activated Polymerization, fusing the Destiny HERO – Malicious on the field with the Increase from his hand to Fusion Summon Vision HERO Adoration.  Loveland then used Elemental HERO Honest Neos’s effect to boost Adoration to 5300.  He then used Destiny HERO – Celestial’s effect from his Graveyard, banishing it and Destiny HERO – Malicious from his Graveyard to draw Infinite Impermanence and Increase.  In the Battle Phase, Adoration attacked and destroyed McNett’s Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay leaving McNett at 3500 LP.  Loveland Set Infinite Impermanence and passed.

McNett activated Orcust Harp Horror to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton from his Deck.  Next, he activated Mind Control to take control of Loveland’s Adoration.  He used Adoration and Orcust Cymbal Skeleton to Link Summon another Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  He then used Orcust Crescendo’s effect, banishing it to Special Summon Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star from the Graveyard.  He used its effect to attach an Orcust as a material.  He then used Galatea’s effect to Set Orcust Crescendo from the Deck, then attacked with all his monsters.  After the last attack, Loveland activated Increase’s effect to put it in the backrow.

Loveland drew Infinite Impermanence for turn and that was enough for a concession.

Robert McNett moves on with a 3-1 record.
