It’s Doug Zeeff and his Altergeists vs… Benjamin Deeter and his well… we’ve been over this. Who’s going to the Finals? It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
“Still 55 cards?” “Yes.” The Duelists joked before getting down to business.
Deeter won the roll and elected to go first. He started with Marauding Captain, using its effect to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from his hand. He then Link Summoned Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights and effect was met with Zeeff’s Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, destroying the Link Monster. Deeter searched for Armageddon Knight anyway. He then used The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, banishing it from the Graveyard to add The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine from Deck to hand. He Set and activated it, then activated Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frission from his hand to Special Summon it. Both monsters were used to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix which went away for Knightmare Mermaid which discarded Chaos Dragon Levianeer but Zeeff chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it!
Zeeff had a hand of Altergeist Marionetter, Altergeist Multifaker, Solemn Judgment and drew Altergeist Silquitous for turn. He Normal Summoned Altergeist Marionetter. He used the effect and Set Altergeist Protocol from the Deck. Marionetter attacked over Knightmare Mermaid. Zeeff Set Solemn Judgment and passed.
Deeter Normal Summoned Marauding Captain. He activated the effect and Zeeff chained Altergeist Protocol, sending Altergeist Marionetter to the Graveyard to negate the effect. Altergeist Multifaker came down next from Zeeff’s hand, and when Zeeff activated the effect to Special Summon from the Deck, Deeter chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy it. Zeeff Special Summoned Altergeist Silquitous from the Deck anyway.
Zeeff drew Imperial Order for turn. He Normal Summoned Altergeist Silquitous and attacked with both Altergeist Silquitouses. He Set Imperial Order and passed.
Deeter Normal Summoned Armageddon Knight, and Zeeff used Altergeist Protocol again to negate the Knight’s effect and destroy it.
Zeeff drew Lost Wind. He Set it, attacked with Altergeist Silquitous.
Deeter Set a monster and passed. In the End Phase, Zeeff used the effect of Altergeist Silquitous, bouncing his own Altergeist Protocol and Deeter’s Set Monster but Deeter opted to concede and go to the second game.
Duel 2
Deeter elected to go first. He started with Marauding Captain, and Special Summoned Blue Mountain Butterspy. He used both monsters to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights and Isolde’s effect added Dark Grepher to Deeter’s hand. He used Isolde’s other effect, sending 4 Equip Spells from his Deck to the Graveyard, Zeeff chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring but Deeter chained Called by the Grave to negate Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Armageddon Knight came out of the Deck and Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frission was sent to the Graveyard for Armageddon Knight’s effect. Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frission came out and was sent to the Graveyard for Guardragon Elpy and Zeeff conceded.
A quick second Duel leads to a third and final Duel!
Duel 3
Zeeff elected to go first. His starting had was Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Altergeist Silquitous, 2 copies of Solemn Strike and Solemn Judgment. He Set all of the Solemns and passed.
Deeter Special Summoned Junk Forward. Then Deeter Normal Summoned The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak. He sent both monsters to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights but Zeeff responded with Solemn Strike. The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak was banished from the Graveyard to add The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine from his Deck to his hand. He Set it and activated it, then activated Overdone Burial, discarding Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frission to Special Summon Junk Forward. He used both monsters to Link Summon another Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights whose Summon got negated with Zeeff’s second Solemn Strike.
Zeeff topdecked Altergeist Marionetter! He Normal Summoned it, then used the effect to Set Altergeist Protocol from the Deck. He attacked for 1600.
Deeter drew and Zeeff activated Altergeist Protocol. Deeter Normal Summoned Dark Grepher and attacked Altergeist Marionetter.
Zeeff drew Personal Spoofing. He Set it, Normal Summoned Altergeist Silquitous and passed.
Deeter activated Instant Fusion, Special Summoning Invoked Raidjin from the Extra Deck. Deeter used the Fusion Monster’s effect to turn Altergeist Silquitous face-down, Zeeff chained Personal Spoofing, sending Altergeist Silquitous back to the Deck, but Deeter chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate Personal Spoofing’s effect. Dark Grepher attacked for 1700, leaving Zeeff at 3200 LP. In Main Phase 2, Deeter activated Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frission from the Graveyard. He used Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frission and Invoked Raidjin to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix which Zeeff negated with Solemn Judgment. Zeeff was now down to 1600 LP.
Zeeff drew Inspector Boarder. He used Personal Spoofing, sending back Altergeist Protocol to add Altergeist Meluseek from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Inspector Boarder and attacked over Dark Grepher. Deeter was now at 2400 LP to Zeeff’s 1600 LP.
Deeter Special Summoned Super Quantum Red Layer, then activated Autonomous Action Unit, dropping to 900 LP Special Summoning the Altergeist Marionetter from Zeeff’s Graveyard. Deeter extended the handshake! (As soon as the game was over, Zeeff realized that he should’ve taken a different line of play on his last turn.)
Deeter moves onto the Finals!
