Round 10 Feature Match: Benjamin Wyman vs. Yacine Sahli
Welcome to the final Round of Swiss! After this, the field will be reduced to the Top 32 for the Single Elimination playoff! Yacine Sahli from Montreal, Quebec has pure Cyber Dragons and has a 8-1 record, and he’s taking on Benjamin Wyman from Long Island, New York with a Salamangreat Deck. Both Duelists are looking to enter Top 32 with good momentum, so they’re each looking to win here. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Sahli won the roll and elected to go second. Despite that, Wyman passed his first turn.
Sahli drew for turn and started with a hand of Cyber Dragon Core, Cyber Emergency, Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay, Cyber Dragon Core, Trap Trick and Cyberload Fusion. He Normal Summoned Cyber Dragon Core and used its effect to add Cyber Repair Plant. He then activated Cyber Emergency to add Cyber Dragon Herz. He sent Cyber Dragon Core to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Almiraj but in the process discovered that there was a Cybernetic Overflow in his Extra Deck. This is, unfortunately, a Deck Error – Major infraction, in which the penalty is a Game Loss. A rough start for Sahli. (It’s highly recommended to count Main Deck, Side Deck and Extra Deck as part of the pre-match shuffling process.)
Duel 2
Sahli elected for Wyman to go first. Wyman Normal Summoned Salamangreat Foxy and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Baelynx. He added then activated Salamangreat Sanctuary. He then discarded Salamangreat Spinny to boost Salamangreat Baelynx’s ATK then brought Spinny out of the Graveyard with its effect. Both monsters were stacked on top of each other to Xyz Summon Salamangreat Miragestallio. Miragestallio’s effect detached Foxy to Special Summon Salamangreat Gazelle from the Deck whose effect dumped Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from the Deck to the Graveyard. Sahli then activated Pot of Desires, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck to draw 2 more. Gazelle and Salamangreat Baelynx went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf. Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf went to the Graveyard to Link Summon another one thanks to Sanctuary’s effect. Salamangreat Jack Jaguar came out of the Graveyard putting a Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf from the Graveyard back into the Extra Deck. He used Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf’s effect to add Gazelle from the Graveyard back to his hand. Sahli then activated Will of the Salamangreat and used the effect to bring back Salamangreat Foxy. He Set a card to the back and passed.
Sahli Normal Summoned Cyber Dragon Herz. Herz and Wyman’s Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf went to the Graveyard to Special Summon Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon! Herz’s effect added Cyber Dragon from Sahli’s Deck to his hand. Megafleet attacked over Salamangreat Jack Jaguar and Wyman protected it by banishing Salamangreat Baelynx from the Graveyard. Sahli Set Trap Trick and Unending Nightmare and passed.
Wyman sent Salamangreat Jack Jaguar to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Salamangreat Baelynx. He then activated Gazelle’s effect form hand to Special Summon it, then used Gazelle’s on-field effect to send Salamangreat Fowl from the Deck to the Graveyard. Wyman then activated Will of the Salamangreat’s effect but Sahli chained Unending Nightmare, paying 1000 LP to destroy Will of the Salamangreat. Salamangreat Miragestallio and Salamangreat Foxy went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix behind Salamangreat Baelynx. Phoenix’s effect let Wyman discard Flame Bufferlo to destroy Sahli’s Set Trap Trick which Sahli chained. Sahli banished a Cybernetic Overflow from his Deck to Set another one from the Deck. Knightmare Phoenix and Salamangreat Baelynx went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Heatleo. Heatleo’s effect targeted the Set Cybernetic Overflow which Sahli chained, then chained Unending Nightmare to destroy Overflow, a heads-up play that ensured Sahli got full value from both of Cybernetic Overflow’s effects. When the Chain resolved, Sahli banished 2 monsters to destroy Wyman’s Salamangreat Heatleo and a Set card, Wyman protected Heatleo by banishing Salamangreat Baelynx form the Graveyard while Wyman’s Set Will of the Salamangreat was destroyed. In a new Chain, Overflow’s Graveyard effect let Sahli add Cyber Emergency form his Deck to his hand. Sahli then activated Unending Nightmare in a new Chain to destroy Wyman’s Salamangreat Sanctuary. Wyman proceed with his turn by using Salamangreat Jack Jaguar’s effect from the Graveyard to put Salamangreat Miragestallio back to Special Summon Salamangreat Jack Jaguar. Wyman then activated Cynet Fusion! He used Salamangreat Jack Jaguar and Heatleo to Fusion Summon Salamangreat Violet Chimera! Then Violet Chimera and Gazelle went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Clock Lizard. Wyman activated Clock Lizard’s effect, Tributing it, then put Salamangreat Violet Chimera back in the Extra Deck, then banished Clock Lizard and Salamangreat Heatleo to Fusion Summon Salamangreat Violet Chimera again. Since Clock Lizard was banished, its effect reduced the ATK of Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon, and because Salamangreat Violet Chimera was battling a monster with an ATK different from its original ATK, Violet Chimera’s ATK would be doubled! That was enough to end the match!
Benjamin Wyman ends the Swiss Rounds with a record of 9-1!
