Round 6 Feature Match: Shawn Rai vs. Dominic Couch

September 21st, 2019

Welcome to Round 6! We’re at Table 4 this time around where Shawn Rai, who made Top 8 at last year’s YCS Niagara Falls, has Orcust and is taking on Dominic Couch from Aurora, Illinois and his Sky Striker Deck. Both Duelists are undefeated and while both are skilled, only one of them will come away with the victory here. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Rai won the roll and elected to go first. He started by Normal Summoning Orcust Brass Bombard. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linkuriboh. He then banished Orcust Brass Bombard to Special Summon Orcust Knightmare from his hand. Linkuriboh and Orcust Knightmare were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. Rai then banished Orcust Knightmare for its effect to send Orcust Harp Horror from the Deck to the Graveyard. Rai then used Galatea, the Orcust Automaton’s effect trying to shuffle Orcust Brass Bombard back to the Deck but Couch negated the effect with Infinite Impermanence! Rai continued by putting Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star on top of Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. He attached the banished Orcust Knightmare as a material. He Set Paleozoic Dinomischus and passed.

Couch activated Terraforming and added Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from Deck to hand. He activated it and Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He used Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect in a chain, with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate being Special Summoned and the Field Spell finding Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole. Sky Striker Ace – Hayate attacked directly and Couch used its effect to send another Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to the Graveyard. In Main Phase 2, Sky Striker Ace – Hayate swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and Couch exclaimed “No Phantazmay!” and sure enough, Rai had Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay. Rai dropped the Dragon, drew 2 and sent one back to the Deck. Couch Set 3 to the back and used Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.

Rai activated Allure of Darkness. He drew 2 cards and banished Orcust Knightmare form his hand. Rai then banished Orcust Harp Horror from his Graveyard to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton from his Deck. Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and Orcust Cymbal Skeleton were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. Couch considered a response then negated the summon with Solemn Strike. The Duel stood at 6500 LP each. Rai Normal Summoned Cyber Dragon Nachster (Even though Cyber Dragon Nachster is a LIGHT monster, it can still be Normal Summoned because the Orcust effect monsters lock the player out of Special Summons, not all Summons.)  Its effect Special Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star from the Graveyard. Rai used the effect to send Couch’s Set Infinite Impermanence to the Graveyard. Rai sent Cyber Dragon Nachster and Couch’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to the Graveyard to Special Summon Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon! Next, Rai banished Orcust Knightmare, sending Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher from the Deck to the Graveyard boosting Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star’s ATK. Orcust Cymbal Skeleton was next, banishing it to Special Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton from the Graveyard. Galatea’s effect was next, shuffling Orcust Knightmare into the Deck to Set Orcustrated Babel. He activated it, and in the Battle Phase, Couch conceded.

Duel 2

Couch made Rai go first. Rai started with a hand of 2 copies of Knightmare Corruptor Iblee, Orcust Harp Horror, Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He Normal Summoned Knightmare Corruptor Iblee, turned it into a Knightmare Mermaid. Both effects were activated, Rai discarded Orcust Harp Horror and Couch chained Infinite Impermanence to negate Mermaid’s effect. Knightmare Corruptor Iblee went to Couch’s side of the field. Rai tried to use Orcust Harp Horror’s effect but Couch negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Couch activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion, then sent it back to draw a new card. He Set one and passed, stuck behind Knightmare Corruptor Iblee’s Summoning restriction.

Rai Normal Summoned Orcust Brass Bombard. He sent it to the Graveyard with Knightmare Mermaid to Link Summon Galatea. Galatea, the Orcust Automaton’s effect sent the banished Orcust Harp Horror back to the Deck and Rai Set Orcustrated Return to the Deck. After the chain resolved, Couch used Cosmic Cyclone to banish Orcustrated Return. Galatea turned into Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and Rai passed.

Couch drew, Set a card and passed. In the End Phase, Rai Special Summoned Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher from his hand, banishing the top 8 cards of his Deck face-down to do so.

Rai drew Twin Twisters. He used Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher’s effect to banish 3 cards from his Extra Deck to destroy the Knightmare Corruptor Iblee on Couch’s side of the field. Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher and Dingirsu attacked directly, leaving Couch at 1950 LP. In Main Phase 2, Rai Normal Summoned another Knightmare Corruptor Iblee, sent it and the Dingirsu to the Graveyard to Link Summon another Galatea. Rai gave the sent Knightmare Corruptor Iblee to Couch once again and Galatea turned into Dingirsu whose effect sent Couch’s Set Cosmic Cyclone to the Graveyard. Rai Set Twin Twisters and passed.

Couch Set 2 and passed. In the End Phase, Rai activated Twin Twisters, discarding Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and Couch extended the handshake.

Shawn Rai moves on with a 6-0 record!
