Top 4 Feature Match: David Mendoza vs. Anandeth Sinhradsvong

September 22nd, 2019

Anandeth Sinhradsvong is the last Salamangreat Duelist left in the tournament and the last competitor who hasn’t had a Feature Match yet, so this was an easy pick.  He was up against David Mendoza, fresh off several Feature Match wins today with his Danger Gren Maju Deck.  The winner here would clinch a Championship Prize Card and have a shot at the title of YCS Niagara Falls Champion.

Sinhradsvong started by Normal Summoning Salamangreat Foxy to reveal Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Solemn Strike and Mind Control from his Deck, whiffing. He Link Summoned Salamangreat Balelynx, used its effect to get Salamangreat Sanctuary from his Deck and activated Will of the Salamangreat to bring back Foxy.  He Linked it to Balelynx for Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf, activated Sanctuary and used the first Wolf to Summon his second.  He Set two cards to his backrow to end.

Mendoza’s hand was Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay, Hey, Trunade!, Monster Reborn, Trade-In, Card Destruction and Danger! Chupacabra!.  He passed entirely.

Sinhradsvong drew to two in hand and Normal Summoned Flame Bufferlo, using Sunlight Wolf to get back Foxy.  He used the Bufferlo to Link Summon Balelynx and Mendoza got involved with a Phantazmay, nabbing Mendoza Pot of Desires. Sinhradsvong pitched Foxy to draw two cards with Bufferlo’s ability, activated Will’s effect, revived his first Sunlight Wolf and flipped Salamangreat Rage, removing Phantazmay.  He got back Rage with Sunlight Wolf, went to battle and attacked with Balelynx first, then one Sunlight Wolf and finally the second Sunlight Wolf.  He Set three cards to finish out.

Mendoza drew Danger!? Jackalope? and threw down Hey, Trunade! to try and bounce all four of Sinhradsvong’s Set backrows.  Sinhradsvong Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to bounce away his Balelynx but had no other response.  Mendoza banished ten cards for Pot of Desires to draw Super Polymerization and Gren Maju Da Eiza!

He activated Super Polymerization discarding Jackalope to fuse away both copies of Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf for Salamangreat Violet Chimera, then Special Summoned Bigfoot. He Normal Summoned Gren Maju and attacked with everything for game!

Another daring win for David Mendoza, passing with open fields and letting Sinhradsvong build a force of two Sunlight Wolf before demolishing it all and striking for game.  One more win would see Mendoza carry his Danger Gren Maju Deck to the Finals!

Sinhradsvong chose to play second.  Both Duelists wished each other good luck and Mendoza opened with Super Polymerization, Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay, Bigfoot, Nessie and Jackalope.  He passed his turn.

Sinhradsvong riffled his hand before Normal Summoning Flame Bufferlo to Link Summon Salamangreat Balelynx.  Mendoza Special Summoned Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay, used its effect to get Danger! Zone and Sinhradsvong searched Sanctuary with Balelynx’s effect. He discarded Salamangreat Spinny to draw two cards with Bufferlo, then searched Salamangreat Gazelle with Salamangreat Circle.  He played Sanctuary, Link Summoned another Balelynx and Special Summoned Gazelle, searching his Deck to send Falco to the Graveyard.  He revived Spinny, Xyz Summoned Salamangreat Miragestallio, and detached Gazelle to Special Summon Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from his Deck in defense mode.

Sinhradsvong continued,  Linking Jack Jaguar to Balelynx to Link Summon Sunlight Wolf, then followed up with Cynet Mining to discard Compulsory Evacuation Device and get Salamangreat Fowl.  He used Jack Jaguar’s effect on Balelynx, Special Summoned Fowl and attacked Phantazmay with Miragestallio.  He pressed with everything else shortly after leaving Mendoza at 2600 Life Points.  Sinhradsvong used Falco’s effect to bounce Fowl in Main Phase 2, Special Summoned Falco and overlaid it with Jack Jaguar to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller.  He then Linked away Miragestallio for Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf, finishing his turn by setting three cards to his backrow.

Mendoza drew Danger! Bigfoot! and Sinhradsvong activated Abyss Dweller’s effect in the Standby Phase, detaching Falco to Set his Salamangreat Circle.  Mendoza Set two cards to his backrow and when Sinhradsvong flipped Rage Mendoza swiftly conceded.

Sinhradsvong battles back with a huge string of plays using almost every Salamangreat in his Deck, capturing the second Duel and pushing us to Game 3!  A generous 32 minutes remained in the Match.

Mendoza was pleasantly surprised: “We have plenty of time!”

Sinhradsvong laughed. “Well, we’ll see if you finish me off fast anyways!” Mendoza grinned and  the Duelists made small talk as they shuffled up for their last game.

Sinhradsvong was up.  He Normal Summoned Lady Debug, searched Salamangreat Gazelle and Link Summoned Balelynx.  Mendoza tried for Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay but lost it to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.  Sinhradsvong played Salamangreat Sanctuary, from his hand without searching it and upgraded one Balelynx into another.  He Special Summoned Gazelle, searched Salamangreat Roar and sent it to his Graveyard.  He Link Summoned Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf next, activated Will of the Salamangreat and revived his Balelynx; Wolf got him back his Ash Blossom.

Mendoza dropped Nibiru, the Primal Being!  Sinhradsvong Set a card to his backrow with one card in hand and ended.  Mendoza brought out Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher in the End Phase, teeing up to take his opponent’s head off.

Mendoza drew and had Super Polymerization, Card Destruction, another Phantazmay and Danger! Bigfoot!.  He played Card Destruction and Sinhradsvong Ashed it.  Mendoza revealed Bigfoot, discarded Phantazmay and Special Summoned Bigfoot, drawing another Bigfoot.  He attacked the Primal Being Token with Gizmek, made a direct attack with Bigfoot, another with Nibiru, and dropped Sinhradsvong to 2000 Life Points.  He discarded Bigfoot for Super Polymerization, Summoning Starving Venom Fusion Dragon and placing his Bigfoot and Gizmek into the Graveyard in the process!

Mendoza tried to use Bigfoot’s effect to destroy Will of the Salamangreat, Sinhradsvong protected it with Balelynx, and Mendoza attempted to attack for game with Starving Venom! Sinhradsvong bounced the Fusion away with Compulsory Evacuation Device, but Mendoza brought his Gizmek Orochi back to the field and made one last attack to win the Match!

David Mendoza is heading to the Finals with Danger Gren Maju!
