Round 12 Feature Match: Ruben Penaranda vs. Andrew Abdeen
Ruben Penaranda from Miami, Florida is currently 8-2-1 and Andrew Abdeen from Sacramento, California is currently 8-3 in the UDS Invitational – Winter 2020. Now, they’re Dueling against one another for a final shot at making the Top 8 cut! Penaranda is using SPYRALs, and Abdeen is using Salamangreats. There’s no guarantee that a victory for one of these Duelists will place him into the Top 8, but it’s certain that a loss will eliminate the other Duelist. The dream of becoming an Ultimate Duelist can only remain alive for one of these two Duelists at the end of this Round. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Abdeen won the die roll and chose to go first. He activated Cynet Mining by sending Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from his hand to his Graveyard and added Lady Debug from his Deck to his hand.
He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect. Penaranda destroyed it with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and Abdeen added Salamangreat Gazelle from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Abdeen Set a card to his back row before passing.
Penaranda drew a card and then had Magicians’ Souls, Scrap Recycler, Mecha Phantom Beast O-Lion, Called by the Grave, and SPYRAL Super Agent in his hand. He Summoned Scrap Recycler and used its effect to send SPYRAL Quik-Fix from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he activated the effect of the Super Agent in his hand declaring “monster”. He revealed Droll & Lock Bird from the top of Abdeen’s Deck, Special Summoned Super Agent, and used his Agent’s effect to destroy a face-down Gozen Match. He then used the effect of the Magicians’ Souls in his hand to Special Summon it by sending SPYRAL Master Plan from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he activated the effect of Quick-Fix by discarding O-Lion from his hand, and Abdeen Chained D.D. Crow to try to banish Quik-Fix; but Penaranda Chained Called by the Grave to banish the D.D. Crow and stop its effect, prompting Abdeen to concede!

Duel Two
Abdeen started off Duel 2 by activating Pot of Desires to banish the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down and draw 2 cards. Next, he activated Cynet Mining and sent Will of the Salamangreat from his hand to his Graveyard to add Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Jack Jaguar and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Balelynx. He used Balelynx’s effect to add Salamangreat Sanctuary from his Deck to his hand and then activated the Sanctuary. Penaranda Chained D.D. Crow to banish Jack Jaguar. Next, Abdeen activated Will of the Salamangreat and used it to Special Summon Balelynx from his Graveyard. He sent both copies of Balelynx to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf and then Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.
Penaranda drew a card and then had SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire, SPYRAL Tough, SPYRAL Quik-Fix, SPYRAL Master Plan, and Mind Control in his hand.
He activated Mind Control to target Sunlight Wolf, but Abdeen flipped Imperial Order. Penaranda Summoned SPYRAL Tough and attacked Sunlight Wolf, but Abdeen protected it by banishing a Balelynx from his Graveyard. Penaranda used Tough’s effect to try to destroy Sunlight Wolf by guessing that a monster was on top of Penaranda’s Deck, but he revealed Salamangreat Circle. Penaranda Set Utility Wire before passing his turn.
Abdeen drew a card and lost 700 Life Points from Imperial Order. He Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Penaranda flipped Utility Wire to return Sunlight Wolf to the Extra Deck. With Sunlight Wolf no longer on his field, he had no choice but to pass his turn.
Penaranda drew a card and Abdeen lost another 700 Life Points from Imperial Order. Penaranda Normal Summoned Quik-Fix next. He activated its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he used Tough’s effect by declaring “monster” and destroyed Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring by revealing Salamangreat Foxy from the top of Abdeen’s Deck. Penaranda combined Quik-Fix and Tough to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix and used its effect by declaring “monster” to Special Summon Master Plan from his Deck. He used Master Plan’s effect to add SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand, and then discarded it to Special Summon Quik-Fix from his Graveyard. He used Quik-Fix’s effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red from his Deck to his hand and then sent all 3 of his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon. He used Master Plan’s effect to add SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL Super Agent from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Super Agent from his hand. He used its effect to destroy Imperial Order, and then Abdeen offered the handshake! Staring down Borrelsword Dragon and SPYRAL Super Agent, he knew it was over!
