Round 2 Feature Match: Billy Brake vs. Benjamin Deeter

February 15th, 2020

Billy Brake from Dallas, Texas is no stranger to big tournaments. Brake has been Dueling since the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME was first released, and he has countless victories and top cut finishes. He has multiple YCS wins, and even competed in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship. You might also know him from the commentary he provides on the Live Stream at YCS events. Now this expert Duelist is up against Benjamin Deeter from Ames, Iowa. Deeter took 2nd place in a recent UDS Invitational in Indianapolis, and was just one Match away from taking home the Championship Belt. Now Deeter is back, looking to do just a little bit better than last time so that he can call himself the ultimate Duelist. It’s Billy Brake’s Shaddoll Deck against Benjamin Deeter’s HERO Deck in this Round 2 Feature Match. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Deeter started off Duel 1 by paying half of his Life Points and activating A Hero Lives to Special Summon Elemental HERO Stratos from his Deck!

He activated its effect to add Vision HERO Vyon to his hand and then Normal Summoned Vyon. He activated its effect, but lost out to Brake’s Effect Veiler. Next, Deeter sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights and used its effect to add Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier to his hand. He then used Isolde’s effect to send 4 Equip Spell Cards to his Graveyard and Special Summon Elemental HERO Shadow Mist from his Deck. He used its effect to add Mask Change to his hand and Set it before ending his turn. Since he only Summoned 4 monsters during the turn, Brake couldn’t use the effect of the Nibiru, the Primal Being in his hand.

Brake drew a card and then had Shaddoll Fusion, Invocation, Aleister the Invoker, Performage Damage Juggler, and Nibiru, the Primal Being in his hand. Deeter flipped Mask Change in the Standby Phase to transform Shadow Mist into Masked HERO Dark Law and then added Vision HERO Faris to his hand with the effect of Shadow Mist. Brake activated Invocation to fuse Aleister from his hand with the Effect Veiler in his Graveyard and Fusion Summon Invoked Mechaba. He attacked Dark Law with Mechaba, and Deeter discarded Elemental HERO Honest Neos in the damage step to increase Dark Law’s ATK by 2500, winning the battle. Brake dropped down to 5600 Life Points and Mechaba was destroyed.

Deeter Normal Summoned Liquid Soldier and activated its effect. He Special Summoned Stratos and used its effect to add Destiny HERO – Dynatag from his Deck to his hand. He discarded Dynatag to Special Summon Faris and used Faris’s effect to send Vision HERO Increase from his Deck to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. In the Battle Phase, Deeter attacked with all of his monsters, wiping out the rest of Brake’s Life Points! Not even his Damage Juggler could save him!

Benjamin Deeter takes the first victory after using A Hero Lives on his first turn!

Duel Two

Brake chose to go first in Duel 2 and opened up with Reeshaddoll Wendi, Shaddoll Hedgehog, Shaddoll Squamata, El Shaddoll Fusion, and Shaddoll Dragon.

He activated El Shaddoll Fusion to fuse the Squamata and Wendi in his hand and Special Summon El Shaddoll Apkallone. He activated the effects of Wendi and Squamata to Special Summon Naelshaddoll Ariel from his Deck face-down and send Resh Shaddoll Incarnation from his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent Apkallone to the Graveyard to Link Summon Gravity Controller and then used Apkallone’s effect to add Shaddoll Fusion to his hand and discard Shaddoll Hedgehog. He used his Hedgehog’s effect to add Shaddoll Beast to his hand. He banished Apkallone and Incarnation from his Graveyard to flip his Ariel face-up and then Special Summoned Apkallone back from the banished zone in Defense Position. Next, he activated Shaddoll Fusion to fuse Shaddoll Beast with Gravity Controller and Summon El Shaddoll Winda. He used Beast’s effect to draw a card and then sent Winda and Ariel to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cross-Sheep. He used Winda’s effect to add El Shaddoll Fusion to his hand and then Set it before ending his turn.

Deeter activated Fusion Destiny, and Brake Chained El Shaddoll Fusion. Brake fused the Apkallone on his field with the Dragon in his hand to Summon Winda and then Deeter sent Destiny HERO – Plasma and Destiny HERO – Dynatag from his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Destiny HERO – Dystopia. Brake used the effects of Cross-Sheep and Apkallone to Special Summon Squamata from his Graveyard and add Hedgehog to his hand before discarding it. He used Hedgehog’s effect to add Squamata from his Deck to his hand. Deeter attacked and destroyed Winda with Dystopia, and Brake used Winda’s effect to add Shaddoll Fusion from his Graveyard to his hand. In Main Phase 2, Deeter discarded Destiny HERO – Malicious from his hand to Special Summon Vision HERO Faris and used its effect to send Increase to his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He used Increase’s effect to Tribute Faris and Special Summon Increase, and then Special Summoned Vision HERO – Vyon from his Deck. He used Vyon’s effect to send Shadow Mist from his Deck to his Graveyard and then banished Faris from his Graveyard to add Polymerization from his Deck to his hand. He sent Dystopia and Increase to his Graveyard to Link Summon Xtra HERO Cross Crusader and used its effect to Special Summon Dystopia. He then banished Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another copy from his Deck, and used his Crusader’s effect to Tribute Malicious and add Liquid Soldier to his hand. He Normal Summoned Liquid Soldier and used its effect to Special Summon Shadow Mist. He added Mask Change from his Deck to his hand with Shadow Mist’s effect and then banished Dynatag from his Graveyard to increase Dystopia’s ATK until the end of Brake’s next turn. He Set a card to his back row and then passed his turn.

Brake drew a card and pondered his turn. With Mask Change face-down on Deeter’s field threatening to Summon Dark Law, he knew he was in trouble. Brake activated Shaddoll Fusion, and Deeter Chained Mask Change to Summon Dark Law in place of Shadow Mist. Brake banished Shaddoll Squamata and Performage Damage Juggler from his Deck to Special Summon El Shaddoll Construct linked to Cross-Sheep. Brake used Cross-Sheep’s effect to Special Summon Shaddoll Dragon from his Graveyard, and Deeter used Shadow Mist’s effect to add Honest Neos to his hand. Brake banished Cross-Sheep, Squamata, and Dragon from his field to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon and when it attacked, Deeter used the effect of Dystopia to destroy it. Brake conceded immediately, destined to be defeated on Deeter’s next turn.

Benjamin Deeter advances with a 2-0 record using his HERO Deck!
