Welcome to Round 3!  We’re at Table 50 this time around.  Aaron Chase Furman from New Jersey is no stranger to the Feature Match table.  He’s a UDS and YCS Champion, having won the Summer Invitational in 2016 and YCS Pittsburgh in 2017.  He’s taking on Jimmy Doss from Commerce, Oklahoma – who had over 400 points going into this event, gained mostly from judging events starting in 2014 – with Nekroz!  The Deck has some new tricks since we last saw the strategy in competitive play in 2015, and we’re about to see what the Deck can do in 2020!  It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Furman won the roll and elected to go first.  Furman started with a hand of Droll & Lock Bird, SPYRAL Gear – Last Resort, SPYRAL Tough, Dark Magic Veil and D.D. Crow.  He passed making no plays.

Doss drew for turn.  He activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope, sending Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Gungnir and Nekroz of Clausolas from his hand.  Gungnir attacked for 2500.

Furman drew Performapal Popperup.  He activated it, sending D.D. Crow, Dark Magic Veil and SPYRAL Gear – Last Resort to the Graveyard to drawing Dark Magic Veil, Where Arf Thou? and SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red, losing 5000 LP in the process.  He Normal Summoned Droll & Lock Bird, then activated Where Arf Thou?, adding Magician’s Soul from the Deck to the Graveyard.  He activated its effect, sending SPYRAL Master Plan from the Deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon Souls from his hand.  Next, Furman used Soul’s effect, sending Dark Magic Veil from his hand to the Graveyard to draw SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue.  He then activated SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red to try and Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan but Furman chained Gungnir’s effect, discarding Nekroz Mirror to destroy the Equip Spell before it resolved.  Both of Doss’s Level 1 monsters became Barricadeborg Blocker.  Its effect was activated discarding SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue but Doss negated it with Clausolas.   Furman then activated Rescue’s effect form the Graveyard, banishing it to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan.  The Link 2 monster and SPYRAL Master Plan were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn.  SPYRAL Master Plan was Chain Link 1 and Knightmare Unicorn’s effect was Chain Link 2 targeting Doss’s Nekroz of Clausolas but Doss negated Knightmare Unicorn’s effect by discarding a Nekroz of Trishula in his hand!  Doss resolved SPYRAL Master Plan’s Graveyard effect, adding SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL Quik-Fix from his Deck to his hand.  A second Rescue was banished from the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan back from the Graveyard.  Its effect let Doss add SPYRAL MISSION – Assault from his Deck to his hand.  SPYRAL Resort was next, and its effect let Furman add SPYRAL Super Agent from his Deck to his hand.  Furman used the Agent’s effect, calling monster, with Doss revealing Nekroz of Valkyrus off the top of his Deck.  SPYRAL Super Agent came down for Furman.  SPYRAL Super Agent and SPYRAL Master Plan were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix.  Its effect was next, calling monster, and Furman adding SPYRAL Sleeper from his Deck to his hand.  Next, 3 SPYRAL cards were banished to Special Summon Sleeper.  Assault was activated next, then Sleeper’s effect destroyed Assault and Doss’s Clausolas and Gungnir.  Next, Assault was banished from the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix from his hand.  Quik Fix’s effect added SPYRAL GEAR – Drone from the Deck to Furman’s hand.  Quik-Fix was sent to the Graveyard to make a Linkuriboh.  Then SPYRAL GEAR – Drone was discarded to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix from the Graveyard.  Quik-Fix’s effect added SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire from Furman’s Deck to his hand.  Knightmare Unicorn, SPYRAL Double Helix and SPYRAL Quik-Fix were used to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon and that was enough to end the first Duel.

Duel 2

Doss elected to go first.  He started off with Impcantation Candoll, revealing Nekroz Kaleidoscope to Special Summon Impcantation Talismandra form the Deck. Talismandra’s effect let Doss add Nekroz of Brionac from his Deck to his hand.  Brionac’s effect was next, discarding it to add Nekroz of Unicore from his Deck to his hand.  Kaleidoscope was next, sending Herald of the Arc Light from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Unicore.  Herald’s effect let Doss add Cyber Angel Benten from his Deck to his hand.  Nekroz Cycle was next, Tributing Benten from his hand to Ritual Summon Brionac from the Graveyard!  Benten’s effect let Doss add Archlord Kristya from his Deck to his hand.  Doss then activated Preparation of Rites to add Nekroz of Gungnir from his Deck to his hand and Nekroz Cycle from his Graveyard to his hand.  He then Tributed both Impcantations to Tribute Summon Archlord Kristya.  A strong first turn!

Doss drew for turn and activated Dark Ruler No More!  With Kristya’s effect negated, Furman was free to play his Deck unimpeded by Kristya’s no-Special Summoning effect.  Furman activated Foolish Burial Goods to send SPYRAL MISSION – Assault from his Deck to the Graveyard.  He then banished Assault from the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan from his hand.  Master Plan’s effect added SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand.  He then Normal Summoned Droll & Lock Bird and used both to Link Summon Barricadeborg Blocker, he used its effect and SPYRAL Master Plan’s effect, discarding SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue and adding SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL GEAR – Drone from his Deck to his hand.  Furman then activated SPYRAL Resort and used its effect to add SPYRAL Super Agent from his Deck to his hand.  Furman then banished Rescue from the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan from the Graveyard and used SPYRAL Master Plan’s effect to add another Rescue from his Deck to his hand.  He activated SPYRAL Super Agent’s effect calling monsters but Doss revealed Impcantation Inception, a Spell Card, off the top of his Deck.  Barricadeborg Blocker and SPYRAL Master Plan were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn.  Furman discarded Rescue to spin Doss’s Archlord Kristya back to the Deck.  He Set Rescue, and in the End Phase, he destroyed SPYRAL Resort and used Barricade’s effect to add it back to his hand.

Doss used Nekroz of Brionac’s effect to bounce Furman’s Knightmare Unicorn back to Furman’s Extra Deck.  Doss then activated Impcantation Talismandra, revealing Nekroz of Gungnir in his hand to Special Summon Talismandra from his hand and Impcantation Candoll from his Deck.  Candoll’s effect let Doss add Impcantation Inception from his Deck to his hand.  Brionac attacked for 2300 but Furman used Rescue to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan in Defense Position to block.

Furman drew Foolish Burial Goods for turn.  He Normal Summoned SPYRAL GEAR – Drone and used its effect, looking at the top 3 cards of Doss’s Deck, rearranging them putting a Nekroz of Valkyrus on top.  He then used SPYRAL Super Agent’s effect, declaring monster and Special Summoning SPYRAL Super Agent from his hand.  SPYRAL Master Plan and SPYRAL Super Agent went to the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Double Helix.  SPYRAL Resort was next, with Furman adding SPYRAL Sleeper from his Deck to his hand.  SPYRAL Double Helix’s effect was next but Doss’s Unicore negated the effect.  SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red was next, Special Summoning SPYRAL Master Plan from the Graveyard.  All 3 of Furman’s monsters were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Borrelsword Dragon.  SPYRAL Master Plan, SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red and SPYRAL Double Helix were banished from the Graveyard to Special Summon Sleeper from his hand.  Furman then activated his Set Rescue to add the SPYRAL GEAR – Drone in his Graveyard back to his hand.  Sleeper tried to attack over Furman’s Unicore, but Doss used the in-hand effect of Nekroz of Valkyrus, discarding it and banishing Kaleidoscope in the Graveyard to negate the attack and end the Battle Phase.  In Main Phase 2, Sleeper’s effect destroyed Furman’s own Rescue and Doss’s Candoll while Doss protected Unicore by discarding Nekroz of Gungnir.  During the End Phase, Furman sent a monster in his Graveyard back to the Deck to keep SPYRAL Resort on the field.

Doss dew for turn.  Furman used Rescue’s grave effect to bring back SPYRAL Super Agent then used Sleeper’s Quick Effect to destroy SPYRAL Super Agent and Doss’s Brionac and Unicore.  Doss activated Nekroz Cycle, Tributing Talismandra to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Brionac from the Graveyard.  Brionac’s effect sent Borrelsword Dragon back to Furman’s Extra Deck.

Furman used SPYRAL Resort’s effect to add SPYRAL Super Agent from the Deck to the hand.  SPYRAL GEAR – Drone was Normal Summoned next, letting Furman rearrange the top of Doss’s Deck again.  SPYRAL Super Agent declared monster, revealing Clausolas.  SPYRAL Super Agent and SPYRAL GEAR – Drone turned into SPYRAL Double Helix whose effect let Furman Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix whose effect added SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red.  SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red was activated next, Special Summoning SPYRAL Super Agent from the Graveyard.  SPYRAL Quik-Fix went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linkuriboh.  SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect let Furman discard Foolish Burial Goods to Special Summon it from the Graveyard and Quik Fix’s effect added SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire from Furman’s Deck to his hand.  Sleeper’s effect destroyed SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red and Doss’s Nekroz of Brionac.  Furman turned 3 of his monsters into Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess and that was enough to end the match!
