Round 7 Feature Match: Michael Campos vs. Avery Foster

February 15th, 2020

Earlier in the day, Michael Campos approached the coverage writers and showed us his Lunalight Deck that also used the Onomatopoeia cards.  He mentioned he was X-1 and this piqued my interest.  It’s Round 7 and he’s still X-1, and that’s worth a Feature Match!  He’s taking on Avery Foster and his Invoked Deck.  Avery’s Deck doesn’t use any Mekk-Knight cards you might see in an Invoked Deck, this is as pure of an Invoked Deck as I’ve seen.  It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Campos won the roll and elected to go first.  He started with Onomatopickup and used its effect to add Onomatopaira from his Deck to his hand.  He activated it, discarding Lunalight Yellow Marten but Foster chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate the effect.

Foster drew Aleister the Invoker, Normal Summoned it and activated its effect but Campos chained his own Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.  Aleister swung in for 1000, leaving Campos at 7000 LP.

Campos activated a second Onomatopickup, using its effect to add Utopic Onomatopoeia from his Deck to his hand.  He Normal Summoned it and used the effect of Zubababancho Gagagacoat.  He then activated Foolish Burial to send Lunalight Emerald Bird from the Deck to the Graveyard.  Emerald Bird’s effect Special Summoned Lunalight Yellow Marten from the Graveyard.  He used Lunalight Yellow Marten and Utopic Onomatopoeia to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia Double.  In the Battle Phase, Campos used Utopia Double’s effect to add Double or Nothing! from his Deck to his hand and Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia and Foster conceded the Duel here.

Duel 2

Foster elected for Campos to go first.  Campos activated Fire Formation – Tenki to add Lunalight Kaleido Chick from his Deck to his hand.  Campos activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Lunalight Serenade Dance from his Deck to the Graveyard.  Campos Normal Summoned Lunalight Kaleido Chick and used its effect, sending Lunalight Yellow Marten from the Deck to the Graveyard.  Luna Light Perfume was activated next to Special Summon Lunalight Yellow Marten form the Graveyard.  Both Lunalights went to the Graveyard to Link Summon PSY-Framelord Lambda.  Campos activated Magicians’ Souls, sending Apprentice Illusion Magician from the Deck to the Graveyard.  He then used Soul’s effect, sending the Fire Formation – Tenki on the field to the Graveyard to draw a card.  Campos then activated Luna Light Perfume’s effect from the Graveyard, discarding Twin Twisters from his hand to add Lunalight Tiger from his Deck to his hand.  He activated Tiger and used the effect to bring back Lunalight Kaleido Chick from the Graveyard.  Its effect sent Lunalight Yellow Marten from the Deck to the Graveyard.  Marten’s effect bounced Tiger to Special Summon itself from the Graveyard.  Both Lunalights were stacked to Xyz Summon Raidraptor – Force Trix.  Its effect added Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite from his Deck to his hand.  Campos banished Lunalight Serenade Dance from his Graveyard, discarding Zephyros to Special Summon Lunalight Emerald Bird from his Deck.  He activated Tiger, then used Souls and Force Trix to Link Summon I:P Masquerena.  Tiger’s effect brought back Lunalight Kaleido Chick whose effect dumped Lunalight Tiger from the Deck to the Graveyard.  Campos Xyz Summon Time Thief Redoer and its effect banished itself with its materials going to the Graveyard.  Zephyros came out of the Graveyard.  Abyss Dweller came out next and before Campos could go into the End Phase, Foster used Nibiru, the Primal Being to Tribute all of the monsters the field.  In the End Phase, Redoer came back and Campos added PSY-Framegear Gamma to his hand.

In Foster’s Standby Phase, Campos’s Redoer attached the Mind Control off the top of Foster’s Deck, and Campos used its effect, detaching the Mind Control to draw a card.  Foster activated Pot of Desires, banishing 10 to draw 2 cards, and Campos activated Droll & Lock Bird.  Nibiru, the Primal Being attacked and destroyed the Primal Being Token.  Foster Set Metaverse and passed.

Campos’s Redoer attached the Mystic Mine that was on top of Foster’s Deck, and Campos used Redoer’s effect to draw a card.  Campos activated Fire Formation – Tenki but Foster negated the effect with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.  Campos activated Onomatopaira, discarding Foolish Burial to add Utopic Onomatopoeia and Dodododwarf Gogogoglove.  He Normal Summoned it, then Special Summoned the Utopic Onomatopoeia.  He activated Tiger, then used its effect to Special Summon Lunalight Kaleido Chick.  Utopia Double was next, and Campos went into the combo and when Campos activated Double or Nothing!, Foster chained Metaverse to activate Mystic Mine from the Deck, stopping the combo from paying off!

Foster drew Evenly Matched.  He swapped his Mystic Mine for Magical Meltdown.  Then he added Aleister the Invoker from his Deck to his hand.  Foster then Normal Summoned the Spellcaster and added Invocation from his Deck to his hand.  Aleister the Invoker went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Almiraj, then Nibiru and the Cyberse monster were used to Link Summon Aleister the Invoker of Madness.  Invocation was next, and Foster banished the Aleister the Invoker in his Graveyard and the PSY-Framelord Lambda in Campos’s Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Mechaba.  Aleister the Invoker of Madness let Foster discard Evenly Matched to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand.  Foster then used the effect of Invocation to shuffle it back into the Deck to add the banished Aleister the Invoker back to his hand.  Next, Invocation was activated, sending Aleister the Invoker from hand to Graveyard and banishing the Droll & Lock Bird in Campos’s Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Raidjin.  Its effect turned Campos’s Utopia face-down.  A third Invocation was next, using Aleister the Invoker of Madness and the Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in his own Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Puragtrio.  All of the Fusions Monsters’ attacks were enough to send the match to a third and final Duel.

Duel 3

Campos elected to go first.  He started with Foolish Burial Goods, sending Luna Light Perfume from his Deck to the Graveyard.  Foster activated D.D. Crow to banish Luna Light Perfume but Campos chained Called by the Grave to negate D.D. Crow!  Campos continued with the combo and ended with a field of Time Thief Redoer, PSY-Framelord Lambda, and Lunalight Tiger on the field with Lunalight Serenade Dance and PSY-Framegear Gamma in his hand.

Foster’s Mystic Mine from the top of his Deck was attached as a material to Campos’s Redoer and Campos detached it to draw a card.  Foster activated another Mystic Mine, Set Heavy Storm Duster and passed.

Campos activated Twin Twisters to destroy Mystic Mine and the face-down Heavy Storm Duster which Foster chained, destroying Campos’s Lunalight Tiger.  Tiger’s effect brought back a Lunalight, then he activated Fire Formation – Tenki to add another copy of Lunalight Tiger from his Deck to his hand.  He activated the new Tiger to bring back a second Lunalight from the Graveyard and both of those became Number 60: Dugares the Timeless.  Its effect detached materials to double Redoer’s ATK.  Lunalight Serenade Dance was banished from the Graveyard with Campos discarding Droll & Lock Bird to Special Summon Lunalight Yellow Marten from the Deck.  When Campos went into the Battle Phase, Foster revealed a Nibiru, the Primal Being that he couldn’t Summon because Campos only Summoned 4 times (2 Lunalights, Number 60: Dugares the Timeless and Lunalight Yellow Marten).  Foster extended the handshake.

Campos takes the win with Lunalight Onomatopoeia!
