Welcome to Day 2! We’re playing 4 more rounds of Swiss before cutting to a Top 8 playoff! There are just 32 players left in the tournament, and every Duelist left in contention is aiming for the top spots! At Table 10 are two competitors with multiple YCS tops to their name; Brendan Beckmann is piloting Danger! SPYRAL is taking on Dominic Couch who has Scrap SPYRAL. Most of the field has 6 wins and 2 losses, so the Top 8 still isn’t locked in. Every match counts as we approach the end of Swiss. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Couch won the roll and elected to go first. He started with 2 copies of Scrap Recycler, SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red, and 2 copies of Magicians’ Soul. He activated a Magicians’ Soul, sending a SPYRAL Master Plan from his Deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon Souls. He then Normal Summoned Scrap Recycler to send Jet Synchron from his Deck to the Graveyard. SPYRAL Master Plan was brought to the field thanks to SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red. Couch used SPYRAL Master Plan’s effect to add SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand. He sent SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red and Rescue to the Graveyard with Soul’s effect to draw Danger!? Jackelope? and Danger! Nessie!. Scrap Recycler and Souls were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Scrap Wyvern. Its effect brought back Recycler and destroyed it. Wyvern’s other effect brought out Scrap Golem from the Deck and destroyed SPYRAL Master Plan. SPYRAL Master Plan’s Graveyard effect let Couch add SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL Quik-Fix from his Deck to his hand. Golem’s effect let him Special Summon Recycler to his field. Recycler’s effect let Couch send another copy of Recycler from his Deck to his hand. All 3 monsters went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess! Rescue was banished form the Graveyard to bring back SPYRAL Master Plan whose effect let Couch add SPYRAL MISSION – Assault from his Deck to his hand. Jet Synchron’s Graveyard effect was next, discarding Assault, with Jet Synchron coming out of the Graveyard. Assault was banished from the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix from Couch’s hand. SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect let Couch add SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Quik-Fix and SPYRAL Master Plan were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix. Couch used SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s Graveyard effect, discarding Danger! Nessie! to bring SPYRAL Quik-Fix out of the Graveyard. Danger! Nessie!’s Graveyard effect let Couch add Danger!? Tsuchinoko? from his Deck to his hand while SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect let Couch add SPYRAL GEAR – Drone from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Double Helix’s effect was next, Couch called Monsters and Beckmann revealed SPYRAL Sleeper, allowing Couch to Special Summon SPYRAL Super Agent from his Deck next to SPYRAL Double Helix. SPYRAL Resort was next, and Couch used its effect to add SPYRAL Sleeper from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Quik-Fix and Jet Synchron were used to Xyz Summon Sylvan Princessprite. Couch detached a material and excavated Foolish Burial. Sylvan Princessprite and SPYRAL Super Agent were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. SPYRAL Quik-Fix came out of the Graveyard by discarding Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, then Danger!? Tsuchinoko? used its own effect to come out of the Graveyard. Couch used SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect to add another SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Double Helix and Danger!? Tsuchinoko? went to the Graveyard to Link Summon Tri-Gate Wizard. SPYRAL Super Agent, SPYRAL Double Helix and SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red were banished from the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Sleeper from his hand, then he equipped SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort to it. Couch then activated Danger!? Jackelope? in his hand with Beckmann hitting Scrap Recycler. Danger!? Jackelope? and SPYRAL Quik-Fix were used to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus. He Set Foolish Burial and sent Danger! Nessie! back to the Deck with SPYRAL Resort in the End Phase.
Beckmann used Danger!? Jackelope? from his hand with Couch hitting SPYRAL Sleeper. Beckmann then activated Danger!? Tsuchinoko?, with Couch hitting Dark Magic Veil. Beckmann then activated Magicians’ Soul, sending SPYRAL Master Plan from the Deck to the Graveyard, and Couch chained Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess to negate the effect, keeping Magicians’ Soul in Beckmann’s hand. Beckmann activated SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red to revive SPYRAL Master Plan, but Couch used Sleeper’s effect to destroy Beckmann’s SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red and Danger!? Tsuchinoko?. (He also targeted itself but Last Resort prevents Sleeper from being destroyed by card effects). Beckmann followed up with Foolish Burial Goods, sending SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to the Graveyard. Rescue was banished but Couch Chained Tri-Gate to negate it. Beckmann then used Souls’ effect, sending Assault from his hand to the Graveyard to draw a card. Beckmann conceded here.
Duel 2
Beckmann elected to go first. He started with SPYRAL Resort, then activated Danger!? Tsuchinoko?. Couch hit Assault, and Danger!? Tsuchinoko? hit the field and Beckmann drew a card. Beckmann Normal Summoned SPYRAL Quik-Fix and used its effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Drone from his Deck to his hand. Couch activated D.D. Crow to banish SPYRAL MISSION – Assault before it could Special Summon the SPYRAL GEAR – Drone in Beckmann’s hand. Beckmann used SPYRAL Resort’s effect next, adding SPYRAL Super Agent from his Deck to his hand. Beckmann activated SPYRAL Super Agent calling Monster and Couch revealed Nibiru, the Primal Being on to of his Deck. SPYRAL Super Agent and SPYRAL Quik-Fix were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix. Beckmann used its effect to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan from his Deck and used SPYRAL Master Plan’s effect to add SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Double Helix and Danger!? Tsuchinoko? were used to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. Its effect let Beckmann discard SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue to spin SPYRAL Resort and Couch chained Gnomaterial on Knightmare Unicorn to keep it from being Tributed or used as a material for the rest of the turn. Beckmann banished Rescue from the Graveyard to bring back SPYRAL Quik-Fix and its effect let Beckmann search for SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red. SPYRAL Master Plan and SPYRAL Quik-Fix were used to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. SPYRAL Master Plan’s Graveyard effect let Beckmann add SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL Sleeper from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Resort came down again and SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red brought back SPYRAL Master Plan whose effect let Beckmann add SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand, then used Resort’s effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort from his Deck to his hand. Beckmann then banished 3 SPYRALs from his Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Sleeper and equipped SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort to it. He Set a card and in the End Phase he sent Danger!? Tsuchinoko? back to the Deck with SPYRAL Resort.
Couch used Danger!? Jackelope? and Beckmann hit Nibiru, the Primal Being. Foolish Burial Goods was next, sending SPYRAL MISSION – Assault. It was banished form the Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan. He used the effect of SPYRAL Master Plan to add SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Master Plan and Danger!? Jackelope? were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. SPYRAL Master Plan and Phoenix’s effect were activated, with Couch discarding a Rescue to destroy Beckmann’s Set Rescue. SPYRAL Master Plan’s effect resolved and Couch added SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL Quik-Fix from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Resort was activated and Beckmann chained SPYRAL Sleeper, destroying his own SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red with Couch’s SPYRAL Resort and Knightmare Phoenix. SPYRAL Quik-Fix was Normal Summoned and Couch added SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red. Couch banished SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from the Graveyard to try and bring back SPYRAL Master Plan but Beckmann chained D.D. Crow to banish Master Plan and Couch conceded, bringing us to a third and final Duel.
Duel 3
Couch elected to go first. he started with a hand of Called by the Grave, One for One, SPYRAL GEAR – Drone, Magicians’ Soul and SPYRAL Resort. Souls was first, sending SPYRAL Master Plan from the Deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon Souls from his hand. SPYRAL Resort was next with Couch adding SPYRAL Quik-Fix from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Quik-Fix and used its effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red, which was activated to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan and its effect added SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand. Souls discarded SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red and Rescue to draw 2 cards. SPYRAL Master Plan and SPYRAL Quik-Fix were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix. Rescue was banished to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan and its effect added SPYRAL MISSION – Assault. SPYRAL Quik-Fix was brought back by discarding SPYRAL MISSION – Assault. SPYRAL Quik-Fix found SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire. Assault was banished to Special Summon SPYRAL GEAR – Drone. SPYRAL GEAR – Drone’s effect let Couch rearrange the top 3 cards of Beckmann’s Deck. Beckmann then activated Nibiru, the Primal Being, Tributing the field and giving Couch a Primal Being Token. One for One was next, with Couch discarding Magicians’ Soul to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. He Set 2 cards, sent Magicians’ Soul to the Graveyard for Linkuriboh and Beckmann activated Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay, Special Summoning it, draw 2 and shuffling back 1 from his hand. He Set Called by the Grave and SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire. In the End Phase, Couch sent Magicians’ Soul from the Graveyard back to the Deck with SPYRAL Resort.
Beckmann activated his own copy of Magicians’ Soul, sending SPYRAL Master Plan from the Deck to the Graveyard and Special Summoning Souls. SPYRAL Resort was next, and its effect added SPYRAL monster from his Deck to his hand. SPYRAL Quik-Fix was Normal Summoned, and its effect let Beckmann add SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red. It tried to revive SPYRAL Master Plan but Couch banished it with Called by the Grave. Souls sent Evenly Matched from his hand and SPYRAL Resort from the field to draw 2 cards. SPYRAL Super Agent’s effect called Spells but hit a Monster instead. SPYRAL Quik-Fix and Magicians’ Soul were stacked to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Recital Starling. Its effect let Beckmann detach a material to add D.D. Crow from his Deck to his hand. Beckmann used 2 monsters to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus. Its effect destroyed the Primal Being Token. In the Battle Phase, Linkuriboh reduced Knightmare Cerberus’s ATK to zero but Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay connected for 2400. In Main Phase 2, both monsters turned into Knightmare Unicorn and spun Couch’s SPYRAL Resort back to the Deck.
Couch Set SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort and the Called by the Grave and passed.
Beckmann tried SPYRAL Super Agent again but missed. Ne Normal Summoned SPYRAL Super Agent, attacked with Knightmare Unicorn and SPYRAL Super Agent, bringing LP down to 3700. Time was called here and Beckmann was up 8000 to 3700.
