Tom Brooks, Nestor Tambassopoulos, and Jason Zimmerman all met at The Comic Book Depot in Wantagh, New York over 5 years ago – and even though Jason Zimmerman now lives in North Carolina, he has remained friends with Tom and Nestor, and they still all travel to YCS events together. Now they’re fresh off of a win against Team Esala Needs This, ending the Swiss Rounds with a 7-1-1 record and an 11^th place finish going into the Top 16.

Tom, Nestor, and Jason are Dueling under the name Spellstone Sorcerer Karood. The team’s admiration for Karood came from Karood’s cameo on the art for Mystic Mine, which two of the three Duelists are using this weekend. “I spent $70 on Karoods to hand them out this weekend,” Nestor said. Team Spellstone Sorcerer Karood handed a copy of Spellstone Sorcerer Karood to every team they defeated.

Nestor and Jason are using the same Deck this weekend, but Tom is using a different Deck completely. Each player chose their Deck based on how well they thought they could play it, and Jason said he wouldn’t know how to play Tom’s Deck.

The success of Team Spellstone Sorcerer Karood was a team effort not just among themselves, but also their other friends with whom they Duel. Their friend Greg helped build their Decks, and their friend Corey lent them cards they needed in order to play their Decks this weekend.

Tom and Nestor have never made the top cut of a YCS event before despite several attempts, and they’re more excited than ever before to finally be playing in the single elimination rounds.
