New York’s Carl Manigat and Florida’s Ruben Penaranda are facing off in the Top 4 of the UDS Invitational – Winter 2020 here in Tulsa, Oklahoma! Manigat is using a Shaddoll Deck featuring the new cards that were released on Friday in Structure Deck: Shaddoll Showdown, whereas Penaranda is using a SPYRAL Deck that features Scrap monsters. One of these Duelists will advance to the Finals. The other will be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Penaranda won the die roll and started off the first Duel by Normal Summoning Scrap Recycler and using its effect to send Mech Phantom Beast O-Lion from his Deck to his Graveyard.
He used O-Lion’s effect to Special Summon a Mecha Phantom Beast Token to the field and then used Foolish Burial Goods to send SPYRAL MISSION – Assault from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished it from his Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL GEAR – Drone from his hand and used its effect to rearrange the top 3 cards of Manigat’s Deck. Next, he Link Summoned Scrap Wyvern and used its effect. After a flurry of plays, he Link Summoned Curious, Lightsworn Dominion! He used its effect to send SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his Graveyard and then sent 3 Spells from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Curious’s effect. He Special Summoned Quik-Fix, used its effect, and then activated SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red to Special Summon a monster before Link Summoning SPYRAL Double Helix and using its effect. After many more quick plays, he ended his turn with Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess, SPYRAL Double Helix, Knightmare Gryphon, and SPYRAL Sleeper equipped with SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort face-up on the field and 2 cards face-down.
Manigat opened up Duel 1 with Performage Trick Clown, Shaddoll Fusion, Allure of Darkness, 2 copies of Invocation, and Shaddoll Dragon. He activated Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banish Shaddoll Squamata from his hand. Penaranda activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird in an effort to secure his stranglehold on the Duel. Manigat pressed on, activating Shaddoll Fusion to send Aleister, the Invoker and Reeshaddoll Wendi from his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon El Shaddoll Winda. He then attempted to use Wendi’s effect, but lost out when Penaranda banished it with Called by the Grave. Manigat couldn’t activate Invocation because Winda was on the field and he had already attempted to Special Summon earlier in the turn by activating Wendi’s effect. Instead, he attacked with Winda and it was returned to his Extra Deck by Penaranda’s SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire. Manigat activated Invocation in Main Phase 2 and fused the Shaddoll Dragon and Performage Trick Clown in his hand to Summon El Shaddoll Construct. He activated the effects of his 3 monsters in Chain, and Penaranda negated Dragon’s effect with Apollousa and banished Trick Clown with D.D. Crow. Construct’s effect resolved to send Naelshaddoll Ariel to the Graveyard. Manigat activated another Invocation next, banishing Aleister from his Graveyard and Curious from Penaranda’s Graveyard to Summon Invoked Mechaba. He sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cross-Sheep and then used Construct’s effect to return Shaddoll Fusion to his hand. He then shuffled Invocation from his Graveyard into his Deck to return Aleister to his hand from his banished zone; but he conceded immediately afterwards, realizing that he was completely outmatched by Penaranda’s draw.
Ruben Penaranda takes the first Duel! Carl Manigat chose to go first in Duel 2.
Duel Two
Manigat opened up Duel 2 with Magical Meltdown, Shaddoll Fusion, Reeshaddoll Wendi, Invocation, and Shaddoll Beast.
He activated Magical Meltdown to add Aleister, the Invoker to his hand, and Penaranda activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Next, he Normal Summoned Aleister and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Almiraj. He activated Shaddoll Fusion next, and fused Beast with Wendi to Summon El Shaddoll Winda linked to Almiraj. He used Wendi’s effect to Special Summon Beast from his Deck face-down and then ended his turn.
Penaranda activated SPYRAL MISSION – Assault and then Normal Summoned SPYRAL Tough. He used Tough’s effect to try to destroy Meltdown by declaring “monster”, but revealed El Shaddoll Fusion from the top of Manigat’s Deck. Penaranda attacked Almiraj with Tough, prompting Manigat to use Almiraj’s effect to Tribute it and target Winda, and Penaranda attacked the face-down Beast to destroy it instead. Manigat drew 2 cards and discarded 1 with Beast’s Flip Effect, and then Penaranda drew a card with the effect of SPYRAL MISSION – Assault. In Main Phase 2, Penaranda used Mind Control to take control of El Shaddoll Winda and then sent it to the Graveyard along with Tough to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He used its effect to discard Quik-Fix and destroy Magical Meltdown, and Manigat used the effect of the Winda that went to his Graveyard to add Shaddoll Fusion from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, Penaranda activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix and used its effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red from his Deck to his hand. He used Big Red to Special Summon Tough and then sent Quik-Fix and Phoenix to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He activated the effect of Quik-Fix in the Graveyard and discarded Scrap Golem to Special Summon it. He used Quik-Fix’s effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort to his hand. Next, he used Quik-Fix and Tough to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix. He used its effect by guessing that the top card of Manigat’s Deck was a monster, but Manigat revealed a Spell Card: Allure of Darkness! Penaranda conceded, unable to make any follow-up plays without his Double Helix’s effect and knowing that Manigat had Shaddoll Fusion in his hand.
Manigat takes the second Duel and pushes the Match to a third and final Duel! Penaranda chose to go first in the last Duel!
Duel Three
Penaranda started off Duel 3 by activating Foolish Burial Goods and sending SPYRAL MISSION – Assault from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Assault from his Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Master Plan from his hand and used its effect to add SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Deck to his hand. He Set a card and passed.
Manigat opened up with Shaddoll Fusion, Shaddoll Hedgehog, Magical Meltdown, Shaddoll Squamata, Reeshaddoll Wendi, and Pot of Desires. He activated Magical Meltdown to get Aleister from his Deck and then Normal Summoned Aleister to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand. He activated Pot of Desires next, and banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw El Shaddoll Fusion and Super Polymerization. He activated Shaddoll Fusion next, fusing Shaddoll Hedgehog and Wendi from his hand to Summon El Shaddoll Apkallone. He used the effects of Hedgehog and Wendi to Special Summon Naelshaddoll Ariel from his Deck face-down and add a copy of Wendi from his Deck to his hand. He sent Apkallone and Aleister to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cross-Sheep. He used Apkallone’s effect to add Shaddoll Fusion from his Deck to his hand and discard it. Next, he activated Invocation and banished Aleister and Apkallone from his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Invoked Caliga linked to Cross-Sheep and used Cross-Sheep’s effect to Special Summon Reeshaddoll Wendi from his Graveyard. Next, he shuffled Invocation from his Graveyard back into his Deck to return Aleister from his banished zone to his hand. He entered his Battle Phase and then activated El Shaddoll Fusion to fuse the Squamata in his hand with the Ariel on his field and Summon El Shaddoll Winda. Next, he activated Super Polymerization by discarding Wendi, and fused the Cross-Sheep and Invoked Caliga on his field to Summon Invoked Elysium. He activated its effect by banishing Caliga from his Graveyard, banishing Master Plan from the Duel. Direct attacks from Elysium, Winda, and Wendi dropped Penaranda down to 1100 Life Points.
Penaranda drew a card and conceded, unable to break through Manigat’s field.
