The Rokket strategy hinges around destroying Rokkets to trigger their effects in the End Phase to Special Summon other Rokket monsters from the Deck. Xu has shifted away from this and instead incorporated Rokkets into the combo strategy left behind by Danger! Thunder Dragon’s departure from competitive play. Looking at the finals and his Top 8 match shows what the Deck is capable of, putting up turn 1 fields with Borreload Savage Dragon and Unchained Abomination while being able to put up winning fields with Borrelsword Dragon if going second. The ability for this Deck’s combo to start from a single Rokket monster as seen in the finals is a big strength of this Deck and combined with defensive options in the form of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Droll & Lock Bird along with Duelists unfamiliarity with the Rokket strategy and its cards made for a very potent combination.
Congratulations to Shunping Xu and his first place finish in the UDS Invitational Winter 2020!
