Brandon Miotke from Detroit, Michigan is 24 years old, but has been Dueling since he was 5 years old. He won his first Regional Qualifier when he was 7 years old and was a prominent name in Dragon Duels because he consistently won Dragon Duel events when he was younger. The Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME was a major part of Brandon Miotke’s childhood. He always practiced Dueling with his father and his brother, and now they’re all here competing in the Championship this weekend. Brandon Miotke is currently 2-0 with his Cyberdark Branded Deck.

Robert Scarpelli is a local Chicago Duelist who is also no stranger to competitive Dueling. He has made the top cut of many Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series events and is currently 2-0 with his Dragon Link Deck. Our Round 3 Feature Match will pit Miotke against Scarpelli in a Duel that will determine which one of them advances with a 3-0 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Scarpelli started off Duel 1 by activating Foolish Burial to send Water Enchantress of the Temple to the Graveyard and used its effect to banish it and add Rite of Aramesir to his hand.

He then activated Fateful Adventure and used Rite of Aramesir to Special Summon an Adventurer Token. He used Fateful Adventure’s effect to add Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon to his hand and then used Fateful Adventure’s effect to add Wandering Gryphon Rider to his hand and discard Dracoback. He equipped the Dracoback to his Token with its effect and then Special Summoned his Gryphon Rider. He Normal Summoned Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit next, and then sent it to the Graveyard with his Token to Link Summon Crystron Halqifibrax. He used its effect to Special Summon Red Rose Dragon from his Deck and then Synchro Summoned Baronne de Fleur. He then Special Summoned Roxrose Dragon with Red Rose’s effect and added Basil Rose Shoot to his hand. He next sent Roxrose to the Graveyard to Link Summon Striker Dragon and get Boot Sector Launch. He then used Basil Rose Shoot to Special Summon Roxrose and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Guardragon Pisty. Next, he used Pisty’s effect to Special Summon Roxrose and sent it to the Graveyard along with Pisty to Link Summon Dragunity Knight – Romulus. He used its effect to add Dragon Ravine to his hand and activated it. He used the Ravine’s effect by discarding Nibiru, the Primal Being and sent Absorouter Dragon to his Graveyard, adding Rokket Tracer to his hand with Absorouter’s effect. He then activated Boot Sector Launch and then Special Summoned Tracer from his hand with its effect. He then used Tracer’s effect to destroy Boot Sector Launch and Special Summon Rokket Recharger from his hand. He Synchro Summoned Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon and used its effect to add White Dragon Wyverburster to his hand. After a few quick plays, he Synchro Summoned Borreload Savage Dragon and used its effect to equip it with Crystron Halqifibrax and add 2 Borrel Counters to his Savage Dragon. He banished Ghost Ogre and Striker Dragon from his Graveyard to Special Summon his Chaos Ruler and then Special Summoned Wyverburster from his hand. He Link Summoned I:P Masquerena next, and used his Wyverburster’s effect to add Black Dragon Collapserpent to his hand. He then banished Chaos Space from his Graveyard to return Striker Dragon to his Extra Deck and draw a card. He Special Summoned Collapserpent from his hand next and then ended his turn.

Miotke opened up with Fallen of Albaz, Cyberdark Realm, Cyberdark Edge, and 2 copies of Mystic Mine. He drew Cyberdark Claw for his turn and then activated Mystic Mine. Scarpelli used the effect of his Borreload Savage Dragon to negate its activation. Miotke activated Cyberdark Realm next, adding Cyberdark Cannon to his hand. He activated its effect by discarding it to try to search his Deck, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he used Cyberdark Realm’s effect to gain a Normal Summon, and Normal Summoned Cyberdark Edge from his hand. He used its effect to try to equip it with the Cannon in his Graveyard, but Scarpelli used Borrelend’s effect to negate it and Special Summon Tracer. Miotke activated the final card in his hand: Mystic Mine! He then attacked I:P Masquerena with Cyberdark Edge, destroying them both in battle.

Scarpelli drew a card and conceded, with no ways left in his Deck to deal with Mystic Mine despite a full field of monsters.

Duel Two

Scarpelli started off Duel 2 by activating Rite of Aramesir! He Special Summoned an Adventurer Token and then placed Fateful Adventure from his Deck into his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He used Fateful Adventure’s effect to add Wandering Gryphon Rider to his hand and discard Droll & Lock Bird. Next, he activated the effect of his Wandering Gryphon Rider to Special Summon it and added Dracoback from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Fateful Adventure. He activated Chaos Space next by sending Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson from his hand to his Graveyard and added White Dragon Wyverburster to his hand. He paid half of his Life Points to Special Summon Destrudo from his Graveyard as a Level 3 monster and then Normal Summoned Droll & Lock Bird. Next, he Link Summoned Halqifibrax by using Droll and Destrudo and used its effect to Special Summon Red Rose Dragon from his Deck. He sent Red Rose and his Gryphon Rider to the Graveyard to Link Summon Baronne de Fleur and used his Red Rose’s effect to Special Summon Roxrose Dragon. He used Roxrose’s effect to add Basil Rose Shoot to his hand and then he Synchro Summoned Shooting Riser Dragon. He sent Artifact Scythe from his Deck to his Graveyard with Shooting Riser and then used Shooting Riser to Link Summon Striker Dragon. He used its effect to add Boot Sector Launch to his hand and then activated Boot Sector Launch. He Special Summoned Wyverburster from his hand by banishing Roxrose Dragon from his Graveyard and then used it to Link Summon Pisty. He added a Black Dragon to his hand with Wyverburster’s effect and then used Pisty’s effect to Special Summon Roxrose Dragon. He banished Wyverburster from his Graveyard to Special Summon Collapserpent and then banished Chaos Space from his Graveyard to return Wyverburster to his Deck and draw a card. Next, Scarpelli Link Summoned Romulus and used its effect to add Dragon Ravine to his hand. He activated Quick Launch to Special Summon Rokket Tracer from his Deck next and then sent Tracer and Collapserpent to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Chaos Ruler. He used his Collapserpent’s effect to add a Wyverburster to his hand and used Chaos Ruler’s effect to add Rokket Synchron to his hand and send the other excavated cards to his Graveyard. He Link Summoned Borrelend Dragon next, and then used Striker’s effect to add Recharger from his Graveyard to his hand. Then he used Rokket Recharger’s effect to Special Summon Rokket Tracer from his Graveyard. He then used Borrelend Dragon’s effect to Special Summon his Recharger. He Synchro Summoned Borreload Savage Dragon next and used its effect to equip it with Halqifibrax and add 2 Borrel Counters to it. He Special Summoned Chaos Ruler back from his Graveyard and then Synchro Summoned Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Scarpelli Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Miotke opened up with Crossout Designator, Cyberdark Realm, Cyberdark Claw, and 2 copies of Forbidden Droplet.

He drew Anti-Spell Fragrance and Scarpelli used the effect of his Baronne de Fleur in the Standby Phase. Miotke Chained Forbidden Droplet and sent Claw, Crossout Designator, Anti-Spell Fragrance, and another Droplet from his hand to negate the effects of Scarpelli’s field of monsters and halve their Attack Points. Next, Miotke activated his final card: Cyberdark Realm! He used it to add Cyberdark Cannon to his hand and discarded the Cannon to add Cyberdark Horn to his hand. He Normal Summoned it with his extra Normal Summon from Realm and equipped it with Cannon using its effect. He attacked Borrelend Dragon to destroy it and inflict 650 points of damage to Scarpelli’s Life Points, and then used his Cyberdark Cannon’s effect to send Eldlich the Golden Lord from his Deck to his Graveyard. In Main Phase 2, he used his Golden Lord’s effect to Special Summon it by sending his Cannon to the Graveyard and drew a card with Cannon’s effect. He Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy next and used its effect to Special Summon Borrelend Dragon before ending his turn.

Scarpelli activated Rite of Aramesir to Special Summon a Token and equipped it with Dracoback. He used Dracoback to return Borrelend from Miotke’s field to the Extra Deck and then destroyed Dharc with Barrone de Fleur’s effect. Direct attacks from all of Scarpelli’s monsters finished off Miotke!

Scarpelli wins Duel 2 by amassing a field of monsters that even Forbidden Droplet couldn’t help break through! Miotke chose to go second in the final Duel of the Match!

Duel Three

Scarpelli started off the Duel by activating Foolish Burial to send Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished it to Special Summon Collapserpent and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Striker Dragon. He used the effects of Striker Dragon and Collapserpent to add Wyverburster and Boot Sector Launch to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned his Wyverburster and used his two monsters to Link Summon Romulus. He activated its effect, but lost out to Effect Veiler! Scarpelli had no further play and was forced to end his turn!

Miotke activated Branded Opening to Special Summon Aluber the Jester of Despia and used Aluber’s effect to add Branded Fusion to his hand. He activated it and sent Dark Magician and Fallen of Albaz from his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Lubellion the Searing Dragon. He used its effect to return Dark Magician and Fallen of Albaz from his Graveyard to his Deck to Summon Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon and Scarpelli conceded with twelve seconds left in the Round!

Brandon wins 2-1 with his Cyberdark Branded Deck to advance with a 3-0 record!
