Dominic Couch from Richmond Hill, Georgia is no stranger to the Feature Match table. He started Dueling when he was 11 years old and has had a lot of success at YCS events ever since. He even won the 3 vs. 3 YCS (with his teammates) in Las Vegas in 2020. Now he’s bringing his Punk Spright Tearlaments Deck up against Jad Andary in this Round 2 Feature Match! Andary is from St. Petersburg, Florida and Dueling in his second YCS event ever! Andary has never Dueled in a Feature Match before, but he follows the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME closely and keeps up on modern strategies. In fact, he admits that he follows it closely enough to know that he’s up against a Dueling legend! Andary is using a strategy similar to Couch’s, so we’re sure to see a long Duel with a lot of combos. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Couch opened up Duel 1 with Danger! Nessie!, Tearlaments Reinoheart, Emergency Teleport, Noh-P.U.N.K. Deer Note, and Tearlaments Scheiren.

He activated Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin and used its effect to add Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune to his hand. He activated the effect of Deer Note next to Special Summon Foxy Tune and then Synchro Summon Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon. He used Deer Note’s effect to Special Summon Ze Amin and then added Danger!? Tsuchinoko? to his hand with the effect of his Chaos Ruler. Tearlaments Sulliek was sent to the Graveyard off of Chaos Ruler’s effect and he added Tearlaments Merrli to his hand with the effect of Sulliek. He Link Summoned Crystron Halqifibrax next and then Special Summoned Shinobi Necro with Halqifibrax’s effect. He Link Summoned Spright Elf and then Special Summoned Chaos Ruler back from his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Shinobi Necro back to his field with its effect after banishing it with Chaos Ruler and then Synchro Summoned Baronne de Fleur. He activated the effect of Danger!? Tsuchinoko? next and randomly discarded Merrli from his hand to Special Summon it and draw Primeval Planet Perlereino. He activated Perlereino and used its effect and then activated the effect of his Danger! Nessie!. He randomly discarded Scheiren to Special Summon Nessie and draw Eradicator Epidemic Virus. He used the effect of the Scheiren to Summon Tearlaments Kitkallos and then searched for Tearlaments Sulliek with the effect of Kitkallos. He used Kitkallos’s effect to Special Summon Reinoheart and send Kitallos to the Graveyard and then after a flurry of plays Special Summoned Garura, Wings of Resonant Life. He then sent Nessie, Tsuchinoko and Garura to the Graveyard to Link Summon Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion and used its effect to send Fairy Tail – Snow from his Deck to his Graveyard. He sent 3 cards from his Deck to his Graveyard with Curious’s effect, including Spright Blue, and then Special Summoned Spright Blue back with the effect of his Elf. He used its effect to add Spright Jet to his hand and then Special Summoned Jet. He used its effect to add Spright Smashers to his hand and then Link Summoned Knightmare Gryphon. He used its effect to Set Forbidden Droplet from his Graveyard and then used Snow’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard by banishing 7 cards. Next, he Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy and then Xyz Summoned Gigantic Spright using Dharc and Jet. Andary banished the top 8 cards of his Deck face-down to Special Summon Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher. Couch then Special Summoned Merrli with Gigantic Spright’s effect and Set 3 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Andary drew a card and Couch immediately flipped Eradicator Epidemic Virus by Tributing Gigantic Spright, declaring Spells. Rather than reveal his hand and the type of Deck that he’s using, Andary conceded.

Dominic Couch builds an unsurmountable field in Duel 1 to take the first victory!

Duel Two

Andary started off Duel 2 by activating Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Ze Amin from his Deck.

He used its effect to add Deer Note to his hand and then used Deer Note’s effect to Special Summon Deer Note and send the Foxy Tune he revealed to the Graveyard. He Synchro Summoned Chaos Ruler next, and used its effect to add Danger!? Jackalope! from the top 5 cards of his Deck to his hand and send the other 4 cards to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Foxy Tune with Deer Note’s effect. Next, he revealed Jackalope from his hand to activate its effect and randomly discarded Super Polymerization to Summon it and draw a card. He used the effect of Tearlaments Scheiren next to Special Summon it and send cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Couch then activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being to send all of Andary’s monsters to the Graveyard and give Andary a Primal Being Token with 7600 ATK and 8400 DEF! He Special Summoned Nibiru to his own field in Attack Position. Andary used Scheiren’s effect to Fusion Summon Mudragon of the Swamp and then Special Summoned Fairy Tail – Snow from his Graveyard by banishing 7 cards. Next, he banished Nibiru from his Graveyard to Summon Chaos Valkyria from his hand and then banished Performage Damage Juggler from his Graveyard to add Performage Hat Tricker to his hand. He then used his Primal Being Token, Snow, and Chaos Valkyria in a Link Summon to bring out Curious and used Curious’s effect to send Tearlaments Sulliek to the Graveyard. He used Sulliek’s effect to add Reinoheart to his hand and sent the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of Curious. He Special Summoned Reinoheart and sent a card from his hand to his Graveyard and then used Merrli’s effect to Fusion Summon Kitkallos. He added a card to his hand with its effect and then used Kitkallos’s effect to Special Summon a monster and send Kitkallos to the Graveyard. He sent the top 5 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard and then Xyz Summoned Time Thief Redoer. After a flurry of plays, he ended his turn with Curious, Redoer, Abyss Dweller, and I:P Masquerena on his field.

Couch drew Fairy Tail – Snow and added it to his hand of Emergency Teleport, Spright Blue, Danger! Nessie!, and Tearlaments Merrli. Andary took the top card of Couch’s Deck with his Redoer and then Couch entered his Battle Phase and attacked Masquerena with Nibiru. Andary used his Redoer’s effect to banish it, causing its Xyz Materials to fall to the Graveyard, and then activated a bunch of monster effects. He Fusion Summoned Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart and returned Nibiru to the Deck. He also Fusion Summoned Predaplant Dragostapelia. Couch used Emergency Teleport next to Summon PSY-Framegear Gamma and attacked and destroyed Masquerena while still in the Battle Phase. He then Special Summoned Spright Blue in Main Phase 2 and had its effect negated by Dragostapelia. But Couch pressed on! He Link Summoned Halqifibrax and used its effect to Special Summon Gamma from his Deck. Next, he activated the effect of Danger! Nessie! In his hand and discarded a Merrli to Summon Nessie. He drew a card but his Graveyard effects continued to be shut down by Abyss Dweller. Couch Link Summoned Topologic Zeroboros next! He Special Summoned Tearlaments Scheiren from his hand linked to Zeroboros and banished everything from the field with its effect! Andary banished the top 8 cards of his Deck face-down to Special Summon Gizmek Orochi from his Graveyard in the End Phase.

Andary drew a card and Zeroboros returned to the field. Andary used his Gizmek Orochi’s effect to destroy Zeroboros and then Normal Summoned Ze Amin. Couch banished 7 cards from his Graveyard to Special Summon Fairy Tail – Snow and used its effect to put Gizmek Orochi face-down.

Couch drew Super Polymerization. He attacked Ze Amin to destroy it with Snow and drop Andary down to 5950 Life Points.

Andary drew a card and then Flip Summoned his Gizmek Orochi. He Normal Summoned Danger! Mothman! and then Link Summoned Dharc. He used its effect to Special Summon Merrli and used its effect. He sent the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard and used one of their effects to Fusion Summon Kitkallos. He added a monster to his hand with its effect and then sent Merrli and Dharc to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He used its effect to return Couch’s Snow to the Deck and then Link Summoned Topologic Zeroboros. An attack from Zeroboros finished Couch off!

After Dominic Couch almost mounts a comeback with his Topologic Zeroboros, Jad Andary Summons his own Zeroboros to finish Couch off and push the Match to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Couch opened up Duel 3 with Emergency Teleport, Spright Smashers, Spright Jet, and 2 copies of Primeval Planet Perlereino. He activated Emergency Teleport to Summon Ze Amin and used its effect to add Foxy Tune to his hand. He used Foxy Tune’s effect to Special Summon Deer Note and then Link Summoned Chaos Ruler. He used its effect and Special Summoned Ze Amin. He added Danger!? Jackalope? to his hand and gained 1000 Life Points with the effect of the Skull-Mark Ladybug he sent to his Graveyard with the effect of Chaos Ruler. He Link Summoned Halqifibrax and used its effect to Summon Shinobi Necro. He activated Primeval Planet next. He added Merrli to his hand and Summoned Reinoheart. He sent a card to his Graveyard with its effect and Fusion Summoned Kitkallos. Next, he Special Summoned Spright Jet and activated the effect of the Jackalope in his hand. He discarded Merrli to Special Summon the Jackalope and then Link Summoned Curious. He sent Eradicator Epidemic Virus to his Graveyard with the effect of Curious and then sent the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard with the rest of Curious’s effect. He used the effect of Havnis to Fusion Summon Garura and then used Kitkallos’s effect. He Special Summoned Merrli and sent Kitkallos to the Graveyard. After sending more cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Kitkallos, he Special Summoned Chaos Ruler from his Graveyard and Tuned it with Shinobi Necro to Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur. He Link Summoned Knightmare Gryphon next and drew a card with Garura’s effect. He Set the Eradicator Epidemic Virus to his field with the Gryphon’s effect and then Set Spright Smashers before using the effect of his Tsuchinoko. He discarded Havnis, Special Summoned Tsuchinoko, and drew a card. Next, he Special Summoned Fairy Tail – Snow from his Graveyard by banishing 7 cards and then Link Summoned Dharc. He Xyz Summoned Gigantic Spright next, and then used its effect to Special Summon Spright Blue from his Deck. He then Link Summoned Spright Elf and used its effect to Special Summon Merrli. He Special Summoned Spright Red from his hand and then passed his turn.

Andary drew a card and Couch Tributed Gigantic Spright to activate Eradicator Epidemic Virus, declaring Spells. Andary revealed 5 monsters and a Pot of Desires. He sent the Pot of Desires to the Graveyard. Andary Special Summoned Hat Tricker from his hand and then Normal Summoned Fairy Tail Snow.

Time in the Round was called! The Duel would end at the end of the Main Phase, and the player with the highest Life Points would be declared the winner!

Couch used his Red’s effect and Tributed Merrli to negate the effect of Snow. Andary used the effect of his Scheiren next, and Couch used his Barrone’s effect to negate the activation. Scheiren Fusion Summoned Garura with Scheiren’s effect as it hit the Graveyard and then Couch flipped Spright Smashers and banished Garura. Andara Xyz Summoned Gagaga Cowboy in Defense Position, but couldn’t use its effect due to the effect of Knightmare Gryphon. With Couch up by 400 Life Points, he was declared the winner at the end of the Main Phase!

Although Dominic Couch ended up winning in overtime, both Duelists agreed that Couch certainly would have won if they had been able to naturally finish the Duel. With his Tearlaments tearing through the Round 2 Feature Match, Dominic Couch is moving on in the tournament undefeated!
