Andrij Rybsky-Shaw from Mississauga, Ontario and Jose Carrillo from Guadalajara, Mexico are both 6-0-1 with their Tearlaments Decks, and are now facing off in this Round 8 Feature Match. Although they both rely on the Tearlaments strategy, their Decks are very different. Rybsky-Shaw is using a Therion engine from Dimension Force, while Carrillo is using Spright monsters, Frogs, and a heavy reliance on the new Runick cards from Tactical Masters. For the final time today, it’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Carrillo started off Duel 1 by activating Runick Freezing Curses in his Standby Phase to Special Summon Hugin the Runick Wings to his Extra Monster Zone.

He discarded Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite to add Runick Fountain from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He activated the effect of Tearlaments Scheiren to Special Summon it by discarding Tearlaments Havnis next. He sent 2 copies of Runick Destruction and an Instant Fusion from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with its effect. He used Havnis’s effect to fuse it with Scheiren and Summon Tearlaments Kitkallos. He used Kitkallos’s effect to add Tearlaments Reinoheart to his hand and Normal Summoned it to the field. He used Reinoheart’s effect to send Tearlaments Merrli from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used Kitkallos’s effect to Special Summoned Merrli and send Kitkallos to the Graveyard. He used Merrli’s effect and Kitkallos’s effect to send 3 and 5 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard respectively. Carrillo activated Runick Fountain next, and then used Runick Tip to add Runick Flashing Fire to his hand and banish the top card of Rybsky-Shaw’s Deck. Next, he used the effect of his Runick Fountain to return 3 Runick Spells from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw 3 cards. He activated the effect of the Zephyros in his Graveyard next, and returned the Fountain to his hand to Special Summon Zephyros from the Graveyard by giving up 400 Life Points. He then Xyz Summoned Gigantic Spright and activated his Runick Fountain again. He activated Runick Flashing Fire next to Special Summon Geri the Runick Fangs. He used his Fountain again to return 3 more Runick cards from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw 3 more cards. Next, he combined Geri with Zephyros to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller. He then used Gigantic Spright’s effect to Special Summon Swap Frog from his Deck and used his Frog’s effect to send Ronintoadin to the Graveyard. He sent Gigantic Spright and Swap Frog to the Graveyard to Link Summon Spright Elf next, and then Special Summoned Swap Frog back with his Elf’s effect. He used his Swap Frog’s effect to send a Swap Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard and then banished the Swap Frog from his Graveyard to Special Summon Ronintoadin. Next, he used Swap Frog’s effect and returned Reinoheart to his hand. He combined Swap Frog with Ronintoadin to Xyz Summon Toadally Awesome linked to Spright Elf and then Set a card to his back row before passing.

Rybsky-Shaw opened up with Endless Engine Argyro System, Terraforming, Tearlaments Sulliek, Tearlaments Reinoheart, and Tearlaments Scheiren. He drew Infinite Impermanence for his turn. In his Draw Phase, Carrillo activated Abyss Dweller’s effect. Rybsky-Shaw Chained Infinite Impermanence, and Carrillo Chained the effect of Toadally Awesome to stop the Infinite Impermanence and Set it to his field by sending Toadally Awesome to his Graveyard. Carrillo added Swap Frog to his hand with his Toadally Awesome’s effect. Rybsky-Shaw Special Summoned Tearlaments Scheiren from his hand and Carrillo used his Elf’s effect to Special Summon Toadally Awesome back to his field. Next, Rybsky-Shaw activated Terraforming to add Therion Discolosseum to his hand. He activated the Discolosseum and Carrillo negated its activation with Toadally Awesome by sending his Toadally Awesome to the Graveyard. He returned Ronintoadin to his hand with Toadally Awesome’s effect. Scheiren attacked Spright Elf and Carrillo flipped Runick Flashing Fire to destroy Scheiren. Rybsky-Shaw couldn’t use his Scheiren’s effect due to the effect of Abyss Dweller and he promptly conceded after Carrillo drew 3 more cards with his Fountain.

Jose Carrillo draws 9 cards with Runick Fountain over the course of the first 2 turns of the Duel to gain an overwhelming advantage and take a swift victory! Rybsky-Shaw chose to go first in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Andrij Rybsky-Shaw opened up Duel 2 with Primeval Planet Perlereino, Tearlaments Reinoheart, Therion Charge, and 2 copies of D.D. Crow.

He Summoned Reinoheart and activated its effect to send Tearlaments Merrli from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Merrli’s effect to fuse it with Reinoheart and Summon Kitkallos. He added a Merrli from his Deck to his hand with Kitkallos and then used Kitkallos’s effect to Special Summon Merrli and send Kitkallos to the Graveyard. He sent 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Merrli’s effect and 5 more with the effect of Kitkallos. He used the effects of his Havnis and Sulliek that he sent to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Garura, Wings of Resonant Life and added Tearlaments Scheiren to his hand. Next, he sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Spright Elf and used the effect of Garura to draw a card. He activated Perlereino next and added Havnis from his Deck to his hand. He revealed Scheiren and Special Summoned it from his hand, then sent the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used his Spright Elf’s effect to Special Summon Merrli and Link Summoned I:P Masquerena. He ended his turn with Spright Elf and Masquerena on the field.

Carrillo drew a card and then activated Runick Tip in his Draw Phase. He banished Therion “King” Regulus from the top of Rybsky-Shaw’s Deck and added Flashing Fire to his hand. Still in the Draw Phase, he used Flashing Fire to destroy Spright Elf and banish 2 more cards from Carrillo’s Deck. He next activated Runick Destruction while still in his Draw Phase, and Special Summoned Hugin the Runick Wings from his Extra Deck. He discarded Fairy Tail – Snow to activate its effect, and Rybsky-Shaw Chained the effect of Havnis in his hand. Carrillo added the Fountain to his hand, and then used the effects of the Sulliek and Scheiren that he sent to his Graveyard with Havnis’s effect. He Fusion Summoned Kitkallos and then added Tearlaments Reinoheart from his Deck to his hand with Sulliek’s effect. Next, he used Kitkallos’s effect to add Scheiren from his Deck to his hand. In Main Phase 1, Carrillo Normal Summoned Reinoheart and used its effect to send Merrli from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Merrli’s effect, but lost out to a D.D. Crow banishing Merrli. Next, he activated Runick Fountain and ended his turn.

Rybsky-Shaw drew a card and then Carrillo activated Runick Destruction from his hand in the Draw Phase. He destroyed Perlereino and banished the top 4 cards of Rybsky-Shaw’s Deck. Next, Carrillo tried to use his Fountain to return 3 cards to his Deck and draw 3 cards, but when Rybsky-Shaw Chained D.D. Crow to banish Runick Tip, Carrillo returned the other 2 cards to his Deck and drew 2 cards. Rybsky-Shaw activated Therion Charge in Main Phase 1 to draw 2 cards and then Special Summoned Therion “Reaper” Fum by equipping it with Scheiren from his Graveyard. He then sent it to the Graveyard along with Masquerena to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn and used Unicorn’s effect to return Runick Fountain to the Deck. Carrillo Chained Runick Slumber to try to protect his Hugin later in the turn and to banish the top 3 cards of Rybsky-Shaw’s Deck. The Fountain was shuffled back into Carrillo’s Deck by the Unicorn’s effect when the Chain resolved. Rybsky-Shaw Normal Summoned Reinoheart next and used its effect to send Merrli from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Merrli’s effect to Fusion Summon Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart and used Kaleido-Heart to return Hugin to the Extra Deck. Next, Rybsky-Shaw activated the effect of his Endless Engine Argyro System in his Graveyard to add Therion Irregular to his hand and return the Argyro System to his Deck. He Special Summoned Irregular next, and equipped it with Fum and Therion “Bull” Ain. Attacks from Rybsky-Shaw’s six monsters finished Carrillo off!

Duel Three

Carrillo started off Duel 3 by activating Perlereino to grab a Tearlaments monster from his Deck. He used Instant Fusion to Summon Kitkallos by paying 1000 Life Points next and used its effect to add Tearlaments Sulliek to his hand. He next used Kitkallos’s effect to Special Summon Merrli from his hand and send Kitkallos to his Graveyard. He sent 3 cards from his Deck to his Graveyard with Merrli’s effect and 5 more with Kitkallos’s effect. He used Reinoheart’s effect to Special Summon it after it was sent to the Graveyard and then sent Scheiren from his hand to his Graveyard. He used Scheiren’s effect to Fusion Summon a monster and Reinoheart’s effect to send Havnis from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Fusion Summoned Mudragon of the Swamp with Scheiren’s effect and then used Havnis’s effect to Fusion Summon Predaplant Dragostapelia. He used his Mudragon’s effect to make it DARK and then Link Summoned Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion. He activated its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, he used the effect of the Zephyros in his Graveyard to Special Summon it by returning his Perlereino to his hand and lost 400 Life Points. He then sent Curious and Reinoheart to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Gryphon. He discarded Perlereino to activate the Gryphon’s effect and Set Runik Tip from his Graveyard to his field. Next, he Normal Summoned Fairy Tail – Snow and then Xyz Summoned Abyss Dweller. He activated Runick Fountain next, and then Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Rybsky-Shaw drew D.D. Crow and added it to his hand of Merrli, Scheiren, and 2 copies of Ash Blossom. In the Draw Phase, Carrillo activated his Dweller’s effect and activated Runick Tip to add Runick Flashing Fire to his hand and banish the top card of Rybsky-Shaw’s Deck. Rybsky-Shaw Special Summoned Scheiren and used its effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. He then attacked and destroyed Abyss Dweller with Scheiren. Next, Rybsky-Shaw Normal Summoned Merrli and used its effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard. He Link Summoned Spright Elf next and then passed his turn.

Carrillo drew a card and then used Runick Flashing Fire in his Draw Phase to destroy Spright Elf and banish the top 2 cards of Rybsky-Shaw’s Deck. Next, he used his Fountain’s effect to return 3 of his Runick Spells from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw 3 cards. He activated the effect of Danger! Nessie! next and randomly discarded Reinoheart. He Special Summoned Nessie and drew a card. Next, he Special Summoned Reinoheart and sent Scheiren to his Graveyard. He tried to use its effect to Fusion Summon, but lost out when Scheiren was banished by Rybsky-Shaw’s last in-hand card: D.D. Crow. Carrillo Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy next and used its effect to Special Summon Merrli. He used its effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard and then Xyz Summoned Gigantic Spright. He used its effect to Special Summon Red Resonator from his Deck and targeted his Gigantic Spright to gain 3200 Life Points. Next, he sent his Red Resonator and Reinoheart to the Graveyard to Link Summon Spright Elf. He used its effect to Special Summon Swap Frog, used Swap Frog’s effect, and then Special Summoned Ronintoadin. He Xyz Summoned Toadally Awesome and then passed his turn since he was forced to skip his Battle Phase.

Rybsky-Shaw drew Tearlaments Havnis and then extended the handshake, unable to overcome Carrillo’s field.
