Elijah Green from Lexington, Kentucky and Tristan Reep from Minneapolis, Minnesota are both currently 5-1 here at YCS Minneapolis. Green is using a Runick Spright Deck, while Reep combined his Spright cards with the new Bystial monsters from Darkwing Blast. Both of these Spright variants are popular this weekend, but only one of them can prevail in this Round 7 Feature Match. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Green opened up Duel 1 with Runick Slumber, Spright Jet, Evenly Matched, and 2 copies of Runick Destruction.

He activated Runick Destruction in the Draw Phase to Special Summon Hugin the Runick Wings and activated its effect by discarding Evenly Matched. He added Runick Fountain to his hand and then entered his Main Phase. He Special Summoned Spright Jet and used its effect to add Spright Starter to his hand. Then he activated his Starter to Special Summon Spright Blue. He lost 1100 Life Points and used Blue’s effect to add Spright Red to his hand. Next, he Special Summoned Spright Red and combined Hugin with Spright Blue to Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright. He used its effect to Special Summon Ipiria from his Deck and used Ipiria’s effect to draw a Spright Blue. He activated Runick Fountain and then activated Runick Slumber to Special Summon another Hugin from his Extra Deck. He used the Fountain’s effect to return Runick Destruction and Runick Slumber to his Deck and draw 2 cards: Runick Tip and Runick Freezing Curses. He Normal Summoned Spright Blue next and combined it with Spright Jet to Xyz Summon Number 65: Djinn Buster. He then Link Summoned Spright Elf and used the Elf’s effect to Special Summon Spright Blue. Next, he Link Summoned I:P Masquerena and Set Runick Tip before passing.

Reep activated the effect of The Bystial Lubellion in his hand to search his Deck for a Bystial Druiswurm and add it to his hand. He then activated Branded Regained, and Green Chained Runick Destruction to destroy the Branded Regained and banish Spright Starter, Nimble Angler, Swap Frog, and Bystial Druiswurm from the top of Reep’s Deck. Reep activated Pot of Prosperity next, banishing 3 cards from his Extra Deck. He excavated the top 3 cards of his Deck and added a Nimble Beaver to his hand. Then, Green used the effect of his Spright Elf to Special Summon Ipiria and used Ipiria’s effect to draw a card. Reep Normal Summoned his Nimble Beaver and activated its effect, and Green Chained the effect of his Spright Red by Tributing Spright Elf. He negated the effect and destroyed the Beaver. Next, Reep activated the effect of the Bystial Magnamhut in his hand. He banished Spright Blue from Green’s Graveyard and used Magnamhut’s effect to gain a search in the End Phase. Green flipped Runick Tip to add Runick Flashing Fire to his hand and banish a card from Reep’s Deck, and then activated Flashing Fire to destroy Magnamhut and banish 2 more cards from Reep’s Deck. Green tried to use his Fountain to draw cards, but lost out to Reep’s Cosmic Cyclone. Reep pressed on by Special Summoning Druiswurm from his hand and Green used the effect of his Masquerena to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He used the Unicorn’s effect to return Druiswurm to the Deck, leaving Reep with just one card in his hand. In the End Phase, Reep added Bystial Saronir to his hand.

Green Special Summoned Spright Blue from his hand and used its effect to add Spright Jet to his hand. He used Jet’s effect to add Spright Smashers to his hand and then combined Jet with Blue to Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright. He used its effect to Special Summon Capshell from his Deck and lock both players into Special Summoning only Level, Link, and Rank 2 monsters for the turn. Green Link Summoned Spright Elf by using Capshell and Knightmare Unicorn as Link Materials and then drew a card with Capshell’s effect. He then used his Elf’s effect to Special Summon Ipiria and draw a card. Next, he Set 3 cards to his back row. He skipped his Battle Phase due to the effects of his Runick cards and then passed his turn.

Reep attempted to enter his Battle Phase and Green activated the effect of his Elf to try to Special Summon Capshell in Main Phase 1. Reep Chained the effect of a Bystial monster to try to banish Capshell, and Green Chained the effect of his Djinn Buster. Next, Reep activated Spright Starter to Special Summon Spright Blue from his Deck. He activated its effect, but Green used his Spright Red’s effect to negate it and destroy Spright Blue by Tributing Djinn Buster. Reep promptly conceded.

Duel Two

Reep started off Duel 2 by activating the effect of The Bystial Lubellion to add Bystial Magnamhut to his hand.

He Normal Summoned Swap Frog and used its effect to send a Swap Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Spright Blue and used its effect to add Spright Jet to his hand. He Special Summoned Jet next, and used Jet’s effect to add Spright Double Cross to his hand. Next, he activated Pot of Prosperity by banishing 3 cards from his Extra Deck. He excavated Spright Starter, Bystial Druiswurm, and Bystial Saronir from the top of his Deck and added Spright Starter to his hand. He Link Summoned Spright Sprind next, and used its effect to send Shinobi Necro from his Deck to his Graveyard. He then banished the Necro and Special Summoned Magnamhut from his hand. He activated the effect of Magnamhut and Necro. He Special Summoned his Necro to the field and then combined Sprind with Necro to Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright. He Special Summoned Spright Blue from his Deck with the effect of Gigantic Spright and used Swap Frog’s effect to return Spright Blue to his hand. He Link Summoned Spright Elf by sending Gigantic Spright and Magnamhut to the Graveyard and used Elf’s effect to Special Summon Swap Frog from his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Toadally Awesome by combining both Frogs and then Set 3 cards to his back row. In the End Phase, he added a Druiswurm to his hand with the Magnamhut’s effect.

Green opened up Duel 2 with Runick Destruction, Runick Flashing Fire, Ipiria, and 2 copies of Spright Blue. He drew Spright Smashers and then activated Runick Flashing Fire targeting Spright Elf in the Draw Phase. Reep Chained the effect of Toadally Awesome to negate the activation and destroy it. Green Chained Runick Destruction to Special Summon Hugin from his Extra Deck. He activated Hugin’s effect by discarding Spright Blue and Reep used his Toadally Awesome’s effect to return a Swap Frog to his hand. Still in the Draw Phase, he activated Spright Smashers to banish his Hugin and the Spright Elf. Next, he activated Runick Fountain in his Main Phase and then Normal Summoned Ipiria. He used Ipiria’s effect to draw a card and then Special Summoned Spright Blue from his hand. He used Blue’s effect to add Jet to his hand and then Special Summoned Jet and used its effect to add Spright Starter to his hand. He activated the Starter to Special Summon Spright Red from his Deck and lost 1200 Life Points. Reep activated the effect of the Druiswurm in his hand to try to banish his Shinobi Necro, but Green Chained Red’s effect to negate it by Tributing Ipiria. Green Xyz Summoned Gigantic Spright next and used its effect to Special Summon Capshell from his Deck. He sent Capshell and Gigantic Spright to the Graveyard to Link Summon Spright Elf and used the Capshell’s effect to draw a card. Next, he used Elf’s effect to Special Summon Capshell from his Graveyard and Set Evenly Matched face-down. He skipped his Battle Phase due to the effects of his Runick cards and then passed. In his End Phase, Reep flipped Spright Starter and Special Summoned Spright Jet. He lost 1300 Life Points and added another Starter to his hand with Jet’s effect.

Reep Special Summoned Spright Blue and activated its effect; but Green Chained his Red’s effect to Tribute Capshell and negate Blue’s effect. He drew a card with Capshell’s effect and then used Elf’s effect to Special Summon Ipiria and draw another card. Next, Reep used Cosmic Cyclone to banish Runick Fountain. He tried to Special Summon a Bystial monster by banishing his Shinobi Necro, but Green Chained the effect of his own Bystial Druiswurm to banish the Shinobi Necro instead and Special Summon Druiswurm. Reep Special Summoned his Shinobi Necro and then Xyz Summoned Number 29: Mannequin Cat. He used the Mannequin Cat’s effect to Special Summon Gigantic Spright to Green’s field and then completed the effect by Special Summoning Invader of Darkness from his Deck. He activated Spright Starter next, Special Summoning Spright Blue from his Deck and losing 1100 Life Points. He used Blue’s effect to add Spright Jet to his hand and Special Summoned the Jet to add Spright Smashers to his hand.

At that point, Green conceded the Duel in order to move on to Duel 3 with 15 minutes left in Round 7.

Duel Three

Green opened up Duel 3 with Runick Freezing Curses, Runick Slumber, Capshell, and 2 copies of Spright Jet. He Normal Summoned Capshell and then Special Summoned Jet from his hand. He used Jet’s effect to add Spright Smashers to his hand and then Reep activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Next, Green combined his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Gigantic Spright and used its effect. He Chained Freezing Curses from his hand to Special Summon Hugin and then Special Summoned Knightmare Corruptor Iblee from his Deck with Gigantic Spright. He sent Iblee and Hugin to the Graveyard to Link Summon Spright Elf and gave control of Iblee to Reep. He used Elf’s effect to Special Summon Capshell and then Link Summoned I:P Masquerena. He Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.

Reep activated the effect of The Bystial Lubellion to add a Bystial monster to his hand and then Normal Summoned Nimble Beaver. Green activated Elf’s effect to Summon Jet and used its effect to add Starter to his hand. Then he flipped Spright Smashers to banish his Jet and Reep’s Beaver. Reep switched Iblee to Attack Position next and attempted to enter his Battle Phase, but Green used Runick Slumber to stop Iblee from attacking. Reep Set a card to his back row and passed.

Green drew Called by the Grave and then activated Spright Starter to Special Summon Spright Blue in his Draw Phase. He used Blue’s effect to add Spright Red to his hand and then Special Summoned Red in Main Phase 1. He used his Elf’s effect to Special Summon Capshell and then Special Summoned Jet from his hand. He used Jet’s effect to add Spright Starter to his hand and then sent Spright Elf and Capshell to his Graveyard to Link Summon another Spright Elf. He drew a card with Capshell’s effect and then Set 2 cards to his back row. Next, he Xyz Summoned Number 65: Djinn Buster. He skipped his Battle Phase due to the effects of his Runick cards and then ended his turn.

Reep attempted to enter his Battle Phase and Green Special Summoned Capshell with his Elf’s effect. Next, Green activated the effect of his I:P Masquerena to Link Summon Crusadia Equimax, pointing to Iblee. Reep targeted Green’s Called by the Grave with Cosmic Cyclone, and Green Chained it to banish The Bystial Lubellion. Reep Normal Summoned Spright Blue and then sent it to the Graveyard with Iblee to Link Summon Spright Elf. He then attacked Djinn Buster to destroy it. He used Elf’s effect to try to Special Summon Spright Blue, but Green used Bystial Druiswurm to banish Spright Blue from the Duel and Special Summon his Druiswurm. Reep attempted to use the effect of Bystial Magnamhut to banish the same Blue and Summon Magnamhut, but Green Chained the effect of Red to Tribute a monster and negate the Magnamhut’s effect. Reep Set a card to his back row before passing.

Green Link Summoned Spright Elf and used Druiswurm’s effect to send Spright Elf to the Graveyard. Next, Green Special Summoned Spright Jet and used its effect to add Spright Starter to his hand. He used his Elf’s effect to Special Summon Blue from his Graveyard and used Blue’s effect to add Spright Carrot to his hand. He combined Elf with Blue to Summon Gigantic Spright. Reep tried to use the effect of Magnamhut, but lost out to Spright Red’s effect. Next, Green Special Summoned Blue from his Deck with his Gigantic Spright and Special Summoned Carrot from his hand. He attacked directly with Equinox to drop Reep down to 800 Life Points, and a direct attack from Spright Blue finished Reep off!
