3rd Place Playoff Feature Match: Dominic Couch vs. Shanxiao Wan

December 11th, 2022

Our Grand Finals game and our 3rd Place Playoff game are both Floowandereeze vs. Tearlaments matchups. We have Dominic Couch with the birds, and Shanxiao Wan with the fish. The winner of this Match will earn the YCS Prize Card, Anotherverse Dragon!

Duel 1

Couch began the Match with Pot of Duality, adding Floowandereeze & Empen to his hand. He played Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map, banishing Floowandereeze & Eglen from his Deck to Normal Summon Floowandereeze & Robina. He played Robina and added Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds to his hand. He Normal Summoned Eglen, and Wan activated Tearlaments Havnis from his hand. He Special Summoned it, sending Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard and Tearlaments Sulliek in the process. Couch resolved Eglen, adding an Empen to his hand. Then he Normal Summoned Barrier Statue. In a new Chain, Wan resolved Kelbek, filling each player’s Graveyards, and Sulliek searched for Tearlaments Scheiren. Couch Tribute Summoned Empen. He added Robina back to his hand, then searched out Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town. Couch Set one Spell/Trap Card.

Wan moved to his Battle Phase, sending Havnis to destroy the Barrier Statue. In Main Phase 2, he activated the effect of Scheiren, sending another Havnis and Scheiren to the Graveyard in the process. He activated both. Fusion Summoning Tearlaments Kitkallos, then fusing the Kitkallos into Predaplant Dragostapelia in Defense Position. He played Instant Fusion next, bringing Kitkallos to the field in Defense Position. Couch negated it with Effect Veiler. Wan Set one card in his back row. Kitkallos was destroyed in the End Phase, since it was played via Instant Fusion. Kitkallos activated in the Graveyard, and Wan responded with a Keldo the Sacred Protector from his Graveyard to shuffle some cards back first. Kitkallos then sent five cards to the Graveyard, sending Tearlaments Merrli, which let him play Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart in Defense Position. Its effect shuffled away Empen. Still in the End Phase, Wan used the effect of Branded in High Spirits in his Graveyard, adding it to his hand.

Couch played Pot of Duality, adding Floowandereeze and the Advent of Adventure. He used Map, banishing Floowandereeze & Toccan to Normal Summon Robina. His banished Eglen returned to his hand, and Robina tried to search the Deck. Wan used Dragostapelia to negate Robina. Couch played Eglen, adding Toccan back to his hand, and searching for Mist Valley Apex Avian. He Tribute Summoned Empen. He added Robina back to his hand, and Empen searched out Floowandereeze & the Unexplored Winds. Couch played Unexplored Winds, and Wan flipped Tearlaments Cryme to shuffle it away, sending Havnis to the Graveyard. He activated Havnis, then used Kaleido-Heart to shuffle away Empen. He Fusion Summoned Kitkallos, which added another Havnis to his hand. Couch Set a card in his back row and passed.

Wan played Branded in High Spirits in his Draw Phase. Although there was still 49 minutes remaining on the clock, Couch knew he wasn’t getting back in this Duel, and conceded.

Duel 2

Couch started with Pot of Duality once more, taking Floowandereeze and the Advent of Adventure. He played Map, banishing Eglen to Normal Summon Robina. Robina hit the field, searching for Barrier Statue, and Eglen went to his hand. He Normal Summoned Eglen, and Wan Chained Havnis, sending a Keldo the Sacred Protector to the Graveyard. Eglen resolved, adding Empen to Couch’s hand. He Tribute Summoned it, activating it, Robina, and then Advent. He added Robina to his hand, searched for Unexplored Winds and Toccan, and Normal Summoned Barrier Statue. Toccan returned Empen to his hand, and he tributed Toccan and Havnis (via Unexplored Winds) to play Empen again. He Set two back row cards. In the End Phase, he used Keldo to return two cards to his Deck, including a Lightning Storm.

Wan played Terraforming to grab Primeval Planet Perlereino. Couch flipped Dreaming Town to play Robina. With Robina he searched for Floowandereeze & Stri, and returned Eglen to his hand. He then played Eglen, adding Mist Valley Apex Avian to his hand, and he Tribute Summoned it. He now controlled Apex Avian, Barrier Statue, and Empen, along with Map and Unexplored Winds. Wan knew it was basically impossible to play through all this, and chose to move to the third Duel!

Duel 3

Wan took the first turn, and Couch started with Dimension Shifter! Wan responded with Branded in High Spirits, sending Havnis and Tearlaments Rulkallos to the Graveyard to add Albion the Shrouded Dragon to his hand. Dimension Shifter applied its effect, but Wan was able to use the Havnis he just sent, and Fusion Summoned Predaplant Dragostapelia in Defense Position. Then Wan played Zombie World!

Couch played Pot of Prosperity, banishing 6 cards to add Pot of Duality to his hand. He used that reveal Barrier Statue, Raiza the Mega Monarch, and Harpie’s Feather Duster – he took Duster. He passed the turn.

Wan used Albion’s effect, sending Branded in High Spirits to the Graveyard and drawing a new card. He swapped Dragostapelia to Attack Position. He Special Summoned Keldo the Sacred Protector, discarding Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard. Keldo searched for Mudora the Sword Oracle. Then, Kelbek sent five cards to the Graveyards from each Deck. Wan hit all the Tearlaments he could hope for, activating Havnis and Scheiren. He fused them into Garura, Wings of Resonant Life and Kitkallos. With Kitkallos, he added Cryme to his hand. Wan Normal Summoned Mudora, and moved to the Battle Phase. He sent his field of monsters to attack, wiping out Couch’s Life Points!

Shanxiao Wan wins the playoff and the Anotherverse Dragon!
