Round 11 Feature Match: Alex Juneja Versus Jean Cesar
Alex Juneja’s just returned from Tokyo and is looking to capture his first YCS Championship! He’s facing off against Jean Cesar, a local player from right here in Philadelphia! Both Duelists are 7-2-1, so this match is life or death for both competitors. Juneja’s using a Labrynth Deck, boosted with cards found in Tactical Masters like Labrynth Stovie Torbie. Cesar’s using Marincess, a Deck not many Duelists are expecting, and it’s sure to be an intense Match. It’s time to Duel!
Cesar started Game 1 by activating Cynet Mining discarding Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill, and Juneja quickly countered with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Cesar fired back with Triple Tactics Talent to look at Juneja’s hand of 2 Nibiru, the Primal Being, Big Welcome Labrynth, and Labrynth Labyrinth, choosing to return Big Welcome to the Deck. Juneja Summoned Marincess Springirl, Link Summoning Marincess Sea Angel, using both effects to send the top card to the Graveyard and getting Marincess Dive. He activated Marincess Battle Ocean next, activated Marincess Dive Summoning Marincess Blue Tang, pitching Marincess Pascalus.
Cesar Summoned Marincess Coral Anemone with his monsters and created a new chain with Blue Tang as Chain Link 1, Ocean as Chain Link 2 equipping Sea Angel and getting Marincess Dive, and ended his turn after that.
Juneja was up, holding 2 Nibiru, a PSY-Framegear Gamma and Labrynth Labyrinth. He activated Labyrinth and passed.
Cesar considered his options, Special Summoning Marincess Blue Tang with Coral’s effect. He sent Marincess Basilalima to the Graveyard. He used Tang to Link Summon Marincess Blue Slug, which got him Springirl. Blue Tang got him Marincess Wave, the tide of victory rapidly approaching! He Normal Summoned Springirl and Linked with Blue Slug to summon Marincess Crystal Heart, using Springirl to send 2 cards to the Graveyard. Cesar Summoned Marincess Aqua Argonaut next, equipping it with Marincess Coral Anemone, Blue Slug, and Marincess Sea Angel, getting back another monster. He attacked for 3300 damage and ended in a commanding position.
Juneja drew Labrynth Stovie Torbie, discarding it along with his Nibiru, the Primal Being to Set Big WelcomeLabrynth and passing.
Cesar Summoned Marincess Blue Tang, activating its effect and Juneja responded with PSY-Framegear Gamma, desperately trying to hold on. Cesar considered his options before ending.
Juneja drew Skill Drain, simply Setting it and passing to Cesar.
Cesar Summoned Marincess Springirl and activated Aqua Argonaut, targeting both his Springirl and the Set Skill Drain. Juneja responded with Big Welcome Labrynth to Summon Lady Labryrnth of the Silver Castle and return it to hand. Battle Ocean was also destroyed thanks to the Field Spell, and Juneja activated Labrynth Stovie Torbie to Special Summon.
Cesar used Marincess Pascalus to get Marincess Battle Ocean back to his hand and activated it again, then used Marincess Dive to Special Summon Marincess Blue Tang, sending Marincess Sleepy Maiden to the Graveyard. He Summoned Marincess Blue Slug with Blue Tang, and Cesar targeted Blue Tang; the Blue Tang excavation whiffed, getting him nothing. Cesar Banished Sleepy Maiden to equip Blue Slug with Marincess CrystalHeart, and after confirming Silver Lady’s effect he Summoned Marincess Springirl with Marincess Basilalamia, and attacked with Blue Slug. Juneja s Labrynth Stovie Torbie, discarding Nibiru, the Primal Being and Setting Welcome Labrynth from his Deck. When he declared his attack with Aqua Argonaut, Juneja was forced to summon his Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle, then took 2000 damage to drop to 1700 Life Points.
Juneja drew another Big Welcome Labrynth, Set both of his in-hand Trap Cards and ended.
During Cesar’s Draw Phase, Juneja activated Welcome Labrynth, summoning Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle, and destroying Marincess Battle Ocean. Cesar activated Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill as Chain Link 1, Lovely Lady as Chain link 2, and Labrynth Stovie Torbie as Chain Link 3 to Summon from the Graveyard. Stovie Torbie was summoned, Marincess Aqua Argonaut was destroyed, and Mourner negated Lovely Lady. Cesar activated Marincess Coral Anemone, grabbing Marincess Dive.
Cesar Link Summoned Splash Mage with his 2 monsters, and targeted Marincess Springirl only to be met with Juneja’s Skill Drain! Cesar continued by Summoning Marincess Blue Tang, linking it with his Splash Mage for Marincess Marbled Rock. Cesar added Marincess Sea Horse thanks to Blue Tang, and Marincess Marbled Rock attacked Stovie Torbie, ending Cesar’s plays.
Juneja used Big Welcome Labrynth to summon and return Lovely Lady of the Silver Castle to hand, then activated it to Special Summon before drawing Labrynth Stovie Torbie. Juneja used Big Welcome Labrynth in the Battle Phase to return Marincess Mabled Rock to the Extra Deck, and he used Stovie Torbie in a new Chain to Summon it from the Graveyard. Juneja used Big Welcome Labrynth to Set it to the field. He attacked with Silver Lady and Lovely Lady for 5900 total damage, and Juneja activated Stovie Torbie, discarding his other copy of Stovie Torbie to Set Big Welcome Labrynth and finish out.
Cesar conceded, seeing that he had no way to win the first Duel.
After a lackluster opening for Juneja and an incredible barrage of plays from Cesar, Juneja manages to pull off a comeback victory in Game 1! Incredible stuff!
Cesar started Game 2 by Normal Summoning Marincess Basilalamia, linking into Marincess Sea Angel. Juneja countered with PSY-Framegear Gamma, but the Sea Angel wouldn’t be destroyed thanks to Cesar’s Basilalamia. A Set card ended Cesar’s turn.
Juneja drew and had a hand of Big Welcome Labrynth, 2 PSY-Framegear Gamma, and 2 Pot of Extravagance. He activated Extravagance banishing 6 cards to draw Nibiru, the Primal Being and Dogmatika Punishment. He Set both of his traps and ended.
Cesar drew and attacked with Marincess Sea Angel for 1000 damage. He summoned Marincess Springirl and Juneja responded with Big Welcome Labrynth to summon Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle, bouncing Lovely Labrynth to his hand to complete Big Welcome’s effect. On resolution he activated Lovely Labrynth’s effect, Summoning it. On resolution of that Chain, Juneja activated Dogmatika Punishment targeting Cesar’s Springirl, Chaining Lovely Lady. Cesar chained his Infinite Impermanence to negate its effect. The Elder Entity N’tssJuneja sent for Punishment destroyed Cesar’s Marincess Sea Angel and he ended his turn.
Juneja drew Labrynth Stovie Torbie, then activated Pot of Extravagance banishing 6 more cards to draw Nibiru, the Primal Being and Infinite Impermanence. He Switched Lovely Labrynth to Attack Position and connected for 3000 damage. in Main Phase 2, Juneja activated Stovie Torbie discarding PSY-Framegear Gamma and SettingWelcome Labrynth from the Deck, then Set his newly drawn Impermanence to finish.
Cesar Set a monster, ending his turn, but in the End Phase Juneja activated his Set Big Welcome Labrynth and Chained Lovely Lady of the Silver Castle to Set Labrynth Big Welcome. He used it to Summon Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle. Juneja activated Big Welcome’s effect from the Graveyard to return Cesar’s monster, and activated Lovely Lady’s effect as Chain Link 1, then Stovie Torbie as Chain Link 2. That let him Summon it back and destroy Marincess Battle Ocean from Cesar’s hand. Juneja activated Stovie Torbie’s effect discarding PSY-Framegear Gamma and Setting Labrynth Labyrinth from the Deck. He drew another Labrynth Stovie Torbie, activated his Field Spell and attacked for game!
