Dominic Couch from Houston, Texas has 2 Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series victories and is looking to secure a third one this weekend. Now, he Dueling against Pennsylvania’s Nathan Motter in this Round 8 Feature Match! Couch and Motter both currently have 6-1 records, so each of them is looking for a  victory in this round to help boost their odds of eventually making it into the Top Cut. Couch is using a Kashtira Deck, and Motter is using a Purrely strategy. It’s time to Duel!

Couch opened up Duel 1 with Triple Tactics Talent, Kashtira Unicorn, Infinite Impermanence, Triple Tactics Thrust, and PSY-Framegear Gamma.

He Special Summoned Unicorn and activated its effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. Couch Set an Impermanence of his own and passed his turn.

Motter activated Purrely Delicious Memory choosing Couch’s Unicorn and discarded Droll & Lock Bird to Special Summon Purrely from his Deck. He added My Friend Purrely to his hand with Purrely’s effect and Couch used his Unicorn’s effect to banish Epurrely Happiness from Motter’s Extra Deck face-down. Motter Normal Summoned Purrelyly and activated its effect; but Couch flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate it. Next, Motter activated My Friend Purrely. He paid 500 Life Points to use its effect and revealed 3 copies of Purrely Pretty Memory from his Deck before adding one of them to his hand. He then used Purrely’s effect. He Xyz Summoned Epurrely Beauty over Purrely and attached Purrely Pretty Memory as an Xyz Material. He used Beauty’s effect to send Purrelyly to the Graveyard and attach Unicorn to his Beauty as an Xyz Material. Beauty attacked directly to drop Couch down to 6400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Motter Xyz Summoned Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder over Beauty and passed his turn.

Couch drew Pot of Prosperity and activated it by banishing 6 cards from his Extra Deck face-down. He added Kashtiratheosis to his hand and Set it before passing his turn.

Motter activated the effect of My Friend Purrely by paying 500 Life Points. He revealed three copies of Purrely Sleepy Memory from his Deck and randomly added one of them to his hand. Next, he activated a copy of it, discarding Shaddoll Beast, and Special Summoned Purrelyly. He used the effects of Purrelyly and Shaddoll Beast to add Purrelyeap!? to his hand and draw a card. He then used Purrelyly’s effect, and Couch Chained the effect of PSY-Framegear Gamma from his hand. Motter Chained Happy Memory to protect his Purellyly from destruction and Special Summon a Purrely from his Deck by discarding a Nibiru, the Primal Being from his hand. He revealed the top 3 cards of his Deck with Purrely’s effect, but didn’t see a card he could add to his hand. “Good kitty,” quipped Couch. Motter Xyz Summoned Sylvan Princessprite next and activated its effect. He excavated Triple Tactics Talents from the top of his Deck and added it to his hand. He used the Tactics to draw 2 cards and then Normal Summoned Purrely. He used its effect and missed again. “Good kitty!”, Couch exclaimed with even more enthusiasm than the first time. Motter switched his Zeus into Attack Position and then ended his turn.

Couch drew Dimension Shifter, Set a Triple Tactics Talents, and ended his turn.

Motter drew a card and then activated Purrely Sleepy Memory in his Draw Phase. Couch immediately conceded, knowing he wouldn’t survive the turn with his 2 face-down bluffs.

Duel Two

Couch opened up Duel 2 with Kashtira Birth, Pot of Prosperity, Book of Moon, and 2 copies of Kashtira Fenrir. He Special Summoned Fenrir and used its effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand. Motter promptly activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird in his hand. Couch Special Summoned Riseheart and activated its effect. He banished Kashtira Unicorn from his Deck and banished the top 3 cards of Motter’s Deck face-down. Next, Couch activated Kashtira Birth and used its effect to Special Summon his banished Unicorn. He combined Riseheart and Fenrir to Xyz Summon Number 89: Diablosis the Mind Hacker and then combined his other 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Kashtira Shangri-Ira. He used Number 89’s effect to banish Happiness from Motter’s Extra Deck face-down, then banished 4 more cards from the top of Motter’s Deck with Number 89’s other effect, using Shangri-Ira’s effect along the way. Couch Xyz Summoned Arise-Heart over Shangri-Ira next and then Set Book of Moon to his back row before ending his turn.

Motter activated Book of Moon targeting Arise-Heart and Couch detached 3 Xyz Materials from Arise-Heart to banish Motter’s Book of Moon face-down. Book of Moon put Arise-Heart face-down and then Number 89’s effect banished 9 more cards from Motter’s Deck face-down. Motter activated Purrely Pretty Memory next by sending Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand to his Graveyard and Special Summoned Purrelyly. He used Purrelyly’s effect to add My Friend Purrely to his hand and then activated it. He paid 500 Life Points to reveal 2 copies of Purrely Pretty Memory and a Purrely Sleepy Memory from his Deck, and randomly added one of them to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Purrely and used its effect to excavate the top 3 cards of his Deck and add a Sleepy Memory to his hand. He then used Purrelyly’s effect to Xyz Summon Epurrely Beauty and attach Pretty Memory to it as an Xyz Material. Next, he used Purrely’s effect to Xyz Summon Epurrely Plump by attaching Purrely Delicious Memory to it as an Xyz Material. Motter used his Beauty’s effect by sending My Friend Purrely to his Graveyard and attached Couch’s face-down Arise-Heart to his Beauty as an Xyz Material. Next, Motter activated Pretty Memory. Both players gained 1000 Life Points and Motter discarded Sleepy Memory to Special Summon Purrely from his Deck. He attached the Pretty Memory to Plump as an Xyz Material. He added Sleepy Memory to his hand with Purrely’s effect and then activated it. He tried to attach it to his Plump with Plump’s effect, but Couch flipped Book of Moon to put Plump face-down. Motter Chained Plump’s effect to attach 2 more Spells to it as Xyz Materials from the Graveyard before it went face-down. Motter Link Summoned Protector of the Agents – Moon by sending  Purrely and Beauty to the Graveyard and used its effect to Tribute it and destroy Kashtira Birth.

Couch drew Kashtira Unicorn and then activated Pot of Prosperity by banishing 6 cards from his Extra Deck. Couch added Kashtira Birth to his hand and Motter conceded.

The Match is going to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Motter started off Duel 3 by activating Sleepy Memory in his Draw Phase.

He discarded Pretty Memory to Special Summon Purrelyly and used its effect to add My Friend Purrely to his hand. He activated My Friend Purrely in his Main Phase and paid 500 Life Points to activate its effect; but Couch Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to destroy it! Motter used Triple Tactics Talents to draw 2 cards and then activated a Sleepy Memory. He discarded a Shaddoll Beast and Special Summoned Purrely. He drew a card with the Beast’s effect and then added Purrely Happy Memory to his hand with Purrely’s effect. Motter used Purrelyly’s effect to Xyz Summon Beauty and attach Pretty Memory to it. Then, he activated Happy Memory and Chained the effect of Beauty to attach it as an Xyz Material. He discarded Kurikara Divincarnate to Special Summon Purrely and used its effect to add Delicious Memory to his hand. He then used a Purrely’s effect to Xyz Summon Plump and attach a Delicious Memory from his hand as an Xyz Material. He used Plump’s effect to give it 2 more Xyz Materials from the Graveyard and then activated Pretty Memory. Couch Chained the effect of his Scareclaw Kashtira to Special Summon it and banished Kashtira Unicorn from his hand, thereby stopping Motter from using Plump’s effect to attach the Pretty Memory to his Plump. Motter attached the Scareclaw to his Beauty as an Xyz Material with Beauty’s effect and passed his turn.

Couch drew a card and then had Kashtira Birth, Kashtira Unicorn, Scareclaw Kashtira, and 2 copies of Book of Moon in his hand. Couch activated Book of Moon to put Plump face-down. He activated Birth and used it to Special Summon Unicorn. He used Unicorn’s effect to add Kashtiratheosis to his hand and then used Kashtiratheosis to Special Summon Kashtira Fenrir. He used Fenrir’s effect to add Riseheart to his hand and Special Summoned it. He used Riseheart’s effect to banish Big Bang from his Deck along with the top 3 cards of Motter’s Deck face-down. Next, Couch Xyz Summoned Ariseheart by combing all 3 of his monsters! He attacked and destroyed Beauty, added an Xyz Material to Arise-Heart from the Banished Zone, and then used Arise-Heart’s effect to banish the face-down Plump. He detached a Kashtira Big Bang from Arise-Heart to pay for the activation of Arise-Heart’s effect, allowing him to Special Summon a Kashtira Unicorn with Arise-Heart’s effect. In Main Phase 2, Motter used Nibiru’s effect to clear the field and give Couch a Primal Being Token in place of his monsters!

Motter drew and activated My Friend Purrely. He paid 500 Life Points to use its effect and then Normal Summoned Purrelyly. He used Purrelyly’s effect to grab a card from his Deck and then Xyz Summoned Epurrely Beauty and attached Sleepy Memory to Beauty. He attacked the Token with Beauty, losing a bunch of Life Points in the battle, and then Xyz Summoned Downerd Magician. Next, he Xyz Summoned Zeus on top of Downerd Magician.

Couch drew Dimension Shifter. He switched his Primal Being Token into Attack Position and attacked Zeus with it. Motter used the effect of Zeus to clear the field!

Motter switched Zeus into Attack Position and then attacked directly with Zeus. He Xyz Summoned another Zeus in Defense Position in Main Phase 2.

Couch drew Kashtira Birth and passed his turn.

Motter activated My Friend Purrely and used its effect again by paying 500 Life Points. He added a random card to his hand and then activated Happy Memory. He discarded Divincarnate to Special Summon Purrelyly and used its effect. He Xyz Summoned an Epurrely and attacked directly with it. Rushing his plays with limited time left in the round, Motter forgot to switch his Zeus into Attack Position before entering his Battle Phase! Motter Set 2 cards and passed his turn.

Couch Special Summoned Fenrir and Motter activated Purrelyeap!?. He Xyz Summoned Expurrely Noir and used its effect to put Fenrir on the bottom of Couch’s Deck. Couch activated Birth and Motter activated Zeus’s effect to clear the field.

Couch drew Herald of the Abyss and activated it by paying 1500 Life Points to force Motter to send Zeus the Graveyard.

Motter Set a monster.

Couch Set Infinite Impermanence.

Motter Summoned Purrely and lost out on its effect to Couch’s Infinite Impermanence. He Flip Summoned Droll & Lock Bird and then used his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Kikinagashi Fucho in Defense Position.

Couch Set a card and passed.

Motter drew and passed.

Couch Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and Motter put it face-down with Book of Moon.

Motter drew a card and time in the round was called! Motter was up 1500 Life Points to Couch’s 1400 Life Points and he was declared the winner of the Duel and the Match!
