The year is 2010. Synchro Monsters are all the rage, and the 75^th Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series tournament in Edison, New Jersey is happening now. Tyler Tadeo from Chicopee, Massachusetts and Anthony Pascariello from Norwalk, Connecticut are here to relive the excitement from that time. They made it to the Finals of the Time Wizard Public Event, and now they’re facing off in a Match that will determine which Duelist takes home the Light and Darkness Dragon Game Mat. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Tadeo drew a card for his first turn – as the rules allowed back in 2010 – and then had a hand of Armageddon Knight, Blackwing – Sirocco the Dawn, Card Trooper, Bottomless Trap Hole, Royal Oppression, and Burial from the Different Dimension.

He Summoned Card Trooper and used its effect to send Mystical Space Typhoon, Dark Grepher, and Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Pascariello Normal Summoned Swap Frog and used its effect to send Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard. He attacked and destroyed Card Trooper with Swap Frog and inflicted 600 points of damage to Tadeo’s Life Points. Tadeo drew a card with the effect of Card Trooper. Pascariello returned Swap Frog to his hand and passed his turn.

Tadeo drew Mirror Force and then Set a Bottomless Trap Hole.

Pascariello returned Treeborn Frog to his field in the Standby Phase and then activated Moray of Greed. He returned 2 Swap Frogs from his hand to his Deck to draw 3 cards and then Tributed his Treeborn Frog to Summon Caius the Shadow Monarch. He targeted a Bottomless, which Tadeo Chained to banish Caius.

Tadeo drew a card and passed.

Pascariello returned Treeborn Frog to his field and then Tribute Summoned Caius the Shadow Monarch. He used its effect to banish Tadeo’s face-down Royal Oppression. Next, he used One for One and sent a Substitoad from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon a Substitoad from his Deck. He used Salvage to return Treeborn and Substitoad from his Graveyard to his hand, then Special Summoned Swap Frog from his hand. He activated its effect, then used Substitoad’s effect to keep Tributing Frogs to Summon new ones from his Deck. After a flurry of plays, he had attacked for 3500 points of damage, used Swap Frog’s effect to return Caius to his hand, and ended his turn turn with two Dupe Frogs on his field.

Tadeo drew a card and then Set Royal Oppression, Dimensional Prison, and Mirror Force.

Pascariello Special Summoned Treeborn Frog from his Graveyard and then Normal Summoned Mermaid Archer. He used its effect to equip it with Treeborn Frog and then attacked; but Tadeo banished it with Dimensional Prison.

Tadeo Set a monster and then passed his turn.

Pascariello Special Summoned Treeborn Frog back from his Graveyard and then Normal Summoned Substitoad. He activated Soul Exchange and then activated Substitoad’s effect by Tributing Tadeo’s monster. Tadeo flipped Royal Oppression. He paid 800 Life Points to negate the effect of Substitoad and destroy it.

Tadeo Summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress and activated its effect in the End Phase by sending 3 cards including Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor to the Graveyard.

Pascariello Set a card to his back row and passed.

Tadeo activated Lyla’s effect to target Pascariello Raigeki Break for destruction, and Pascariello Chained it by discarding Deep Sea Diva to destroy Tadeo’s face-down Mirror Force. In the End Phase, Tadeo sent 3 more cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Lyla’s effect, including a Sirocco.

Pascariello Tributed Treeborn Frog to Summon Caius and used its effect to banish Lyla. He attacked directly to drop Tadeo down to 700 Life Points and passed his turn.

Tadeo banished a DARK and a LIGHT monster from his Graveyard to try to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer; but when Pascariello paid 800 Life Points to negate its Summon with Tadeo’s own Royal Oppression, Tadeo immediately conceded.

Duel Two

Tadeo opened up Duel 2 with Necro Gardna, Dark Grepher, Sirocco, and 2 copies of Bottomless Trap Hole. He drew a second Sirocco for his turn and then Normal Summoned Dark Grepher. He activated its effect by discarding Sirocco from his hand and sent Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor from his Deck to his Graveyard with its effect. He Set a Bottomless before passing.

 Pascariello Normal Summoned Swap Frog and used its effect to send Treeborn Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. He then used his Swap Frog’s effect to return the Swap Frog to his hand and passed his turn with a clear field.

Tadeo drew a Mystical Space Typhoon and then banished Vayu and Sirocco from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blackwing – Armed Wing from his Extra Deck. Dark Grepher attacked directly, and then Blackwing – Armed Wing attacked to inflict 2300 more points of damage and drop Pascariello down to 4000 Life Points. Tadeo used Dark Grepher’s effect in Main Phase 2 to discard a Sirocco and send a Vayu from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and then ended his turn.

Pascariello Special Summoned Treeborn Frog in his Standby Phase and then Normal Summoned Substitoad. He activated its effect to Tribute Treeborn and Summon Swap Frog and used Swap Frog’s effect to send another Treeborn to his Graveyard. Next, he used Swap Frog’s effect to return the Swap Frog to his hand and Normal Summoned Flip Flop Frog. He used its effect to put it face-down and then used Substitoad’s effect once more to Tribute the Substitoad and Summon Dupe Frog from his Deck in Defense Position.

Tadeo drew Chaos Sorcerer and then used Grepher’s effect to discard Necro Gardna and send Plaguespreader Zombie from his Deck to his Graveyard. Tadeo Special Summoned the Plaguespreader Zombie from his Graveyard, Synchro Summoned Dark End Dragon, and used Dark End’s effect to send Flip Flop Frog to the Graveyard. Next, he banished Vayu and Armed Wing from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blackwing Armor Master and Pascariello conceded.

The Match is going to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Pascariello drew a card for his first turn and then Normal Summoned Substitoad.

He Tributed it to Summon Swap Frog from his Deck and used Swap Frog’s effect to send Treeborn Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. Pascariello returned Swap Frog to his hand and then Set a card to his back row.

Tadeo opened up Duel 2 with Dark Grepher, Deck Devastation Virus, Pulling the Rug, Solemn Judgment, and Torrential Tribute. He drew Trap Dustshoot for his turn and then Normal Summoned Dark Grepher. He attacked directly with it and then Set 4 cards in his back row. In the End Phase, Pascariello destroyed a Pulling the Rug with Mystical Space Typhoon.

Pascariello drew a card and then Tadeo flipped Trap Dustshoot! He returned Raiza the Storm Monarch to Pascariello’s Deck and then Pascariello Special Summoned Treeborn Frog back from his Graveyard. Next, Pascariello Normal Summoned Treeborn Frog and used its effect to send a Treeborn Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. He returned Swap Frog to his hand by activating its effect and then Set a card to his back row.

Tadeo drew Dark Armed Dragon and passed his turn.

Pascariello activated Salvage to return a Treeborn Frog and Substitoad to his hand and then used Moray of Greed to return both of those cards to his Deck and draw 3 cards. Next, he activated Heavy Storm! Tadeo let out a sigh. “It’s not good,” he said. He reluctantly flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 4000 Life Points to protect his face-down Torrential Tribute. Pascariello Normal Summoned Deep Sea Diva next, and used its effect to Special Summon Spined Gillman. He Tuned his Diva with Spined Gillman to Synchro Summoned Magical Android and then attacked Dark Grepher to destroy it. In the End Phase, Tadeo gained 600 Life Points with the effect of his Android.

Tadeo drew Bottomless Trap Hole and Set it.

Pascariello attacked directly with his Android, dropping Tadeo down to 900 Life Points. In the End Phase, Pascariello gained another 600 Life Points, going up to 6500 Life Points.

Tadeo drew Charge of the Light Brigade! He activated it by sending 2 Vayus and Plaguespreader Zombie from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and then added a Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter from his Deck to his hand. Next, he placed the Ryko on top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie; but Pascariello Chained D.D. Crow and banished a Vayu from his Graveyard, leaving just 2 DARK Monsters in Tadeo’s Graveyard after Plaguespreader was Summoned! Tadeo still couldn’t Summon Dark Armed Dragon from his hand!

Pascariello Summoned Deep Sea Diva and activated its effect. He Special Summoned Mermaid Archer and then Tadeo flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field. Next, Pascariello Special Summoned Swap Frog from his hand by discarding Substitoad and activated its effect to send a Treeborn Frog from his Deck to his Graveyard. A direct attack from Swap Frog wiped out all 900 of Tadeo’s remaining Life Points!

Anthony Pascariello wins Sunday’s first Time Wizard Public Event with his Frog Deck and will be taking home a Game Mat featuring Light and Darkness Dragon!
