Round 8 Feature Match: Hani Jawhari vs. Yuhang Li
Hani Jawhari started his 6 year-long Dueling career with a Top 4 finish at YCS Dallas in 2017, and since then he’s scored countless YCS Top Cut appearances, culminating in a win last year at YCS Pasadena! Not one to rest on his laurels, Jawhari proceeded to top YCS San Jose, YCS Santiago, and YCS Philadelphia, and now he’s back vying for another Day 2 here at the North America Remote Duel YCS.
His opponent is BC’s Yuhang Li, who veteran Duel fans may remember from his Top Cut finish at YCS Toronto in 2013. Today, Li’s piloting Floowandereeze against Jawhari’s Purrely Deck, looking to leverage responsive plays in the face of Jawhari’s protect-the-castle playstyle. Let’s see which one comes out on top.
Jawhari opened the Match with Stray Purrely Street. He Special Summoned Purrelyly from his Deck with a Quick-Play, searching for My Friend Purrely. He activated it, paying 500 Life Points to reveal Purrely Delicious Memory and 2 copies of Purrelyeap!? He got his card off a random roll, then used Purrely Happy Memory to Xyz Summon Epurrely Happiness. He Set 3 cards to his back row and ended, using Stray Purrely Street to equip Purrely Sleepy Memory to Epurrely Happiness.
Li moved to his Standby Phase, and Jawhari drew a card with Epurrely Happiness. He activated Sleepy Memory, and activated Epurrely Happiness to equip it. Jawhari drew another card, then activated Purrelyeap!? targeting Epurrely Happiness. He Summoned Expurrely Noir, then used its ability to draw another card thanks to Sleepy Memory. Then he used the effect to draw again, using the effect of his second Sleepy Memory. “You’re good to continue.”
Li moved to his Main Phase. He took stock of the field and Noir’s 1100 ATK / 2800 DEF stat line, then decided to activate Pot of Prosperity: Jawhari blasted him with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to shut it down. He followed up with Pot of Duality, getting Floowandereeze & Eglen. He activated Lightning Storm to destroy Jawhari’s back row. Li then activated Floowandereeze and the Advent of Adventure, banishing Eglen, and searched Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map. He activated the Map, activated its effect, and Jawhari Chained Noir’s effect, detaching to place the Map on the bottom of Li’s Deck.
“Still Main Phase 1… I will play… Dark Ruler No More.” And he did. But Li had no follow-up to take advantage of the opening he’d created. He conceded moments later.

Hani Jawhari loads up his field and unleashes Expurrely Noir on Li’s turn, shutting him down with Noir’s effect and a key Ash Blossom to clip his wings. One more like that and Jawhari would be a shoe-in for Day 2.
Li started the second Duel with another Pot of Prosperity. This tume it worked: he banished 6 cards from his Extra Deck, revealing 6 cards from the top of his Deck and adding Harpie’s Feather Storm to his hand. He activated Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map, used its effect, and Jawhari had no response; Li revealed Floowandereeze & Toccan, banished Floowandereeze & Robina, Summoned Toccan, and made Robina Chain Link 1 and Toccan Chain Link 2. He added Robina to his hand, then Summoned it. He snagged Floowandereeze & Eglen, Summoned it, and searched his Deck for Mist Valley Apex Avian. He Tributed Robina and Toccan to Summon Apex Avian! Once again, he made Robina Chain Link 1 and Toccan Chain Link 2. He Summoned Floowandereeze & Empen, and searched Floowandereeze and theDreaming Town, then Normal Summoned Toccan. He Tributed Toccan and Eglen for Apex Avian, Set 2 cards to his back row and ended.
Jawhari activated Harpie’s Feather Duster to get started, drawing out the effect of Mist Valley Apex Avian. He entered the Battle Phase, Li flipped Dreaming Town, used its effect and formed another bird Chain. Jawhari responded with Infinite Impermanence, but briefly considered his options and conceded a moment later.

Yuhang Li battles back with a huge opening in Game 2, fielding Floowandereeze & Empen and Mist Valley Apex Avian with the back row to back them up! Jawhari can’t power through and wisely opts to save some time. With 27 minutes left on the clock, this Match would have a decisive winner.
Jawhari wished Li good luck and got started. He Normal Summoned Purrely and used its effect to excavate 3 cards from his deck: Purrelyeap!?, Purrely Sleepy Memory, and Purrely Happy Memory. He took Sleepy Memory, activated My Friend Purrely, paid 500 Life Points to search his Deck for 3 copies of Purrely Pretty Memory, and took 1 of them. He activated Stray Purrely Street, used Purrely’s effect to Xyz Summon with Pretty Memory, and Summoned Epurrely Beauty. He activated Purrely Sleepy Memory, equipped it, pitched Street, Summoned Purrelyly, and used its effect to search Purrelyeap!? He moved to his End Phase, activated Street, and equipped another Sleepy Memory.
In Li’s Standby Phase Jawhari drew twice, once for each copy of Sleepy Memory on Epurrely Beauty. He activated Purrelyeap!?, targeted Beauty, and upgraded to Expurrely Noir, then drew two more times thanks to the Sleepy Memories!
Li had Lightning Storm again! He wiped Jawhari’s back row, tried to resolve Floowandereeze and the Advent of Adventure, lost to Ash Blossom and Summoned Floowandereeze & Robina. That got him Floowandereeze & Toccan. He Normal Summoned it, and Jawhari used Noir’s effect, detaching 2 to target Toccan, banishing it. Li got back his Empen, then passed on the opportunity to Normal Summon with Toccan’s effect. Li attacked Noir with Robina, then passed.
Jawhari Normal Summoned Purrelyly, searched My Friend Purrely and activated it, paying 500 Life Points to present Purrely Delicious Memory, Purrely Sleepy Memory, and Purrelyeap!? He added one to his hand at random. Jawhari activated Happy Memory, used Purrelyly to attach the spell and Summon Epurrely Happiness, and then… Well, then it was over.
Jawhari switched Noir to attack mode. He activated Purrely Delicious Memory, targeting Li’s Robina so it couldn’t be destroyed by battle, and Chained Happiness’ effect to equip it. With Robina trapped in a never-ending state of un-death for the rest of the turn, Jawhari proceeded to ram Noir and Happiness into it, searching Purrely Happy Memory with Happiness’ effect.
With Happy Memory equipped, Happiness could smack Robina again and again, each time halving its ATK with Happiness’ effect. And with Purrely Delicious Memory boosting attack power as well, it was way more than enough damage to cleave through all of Li’s Life Points, ending the Duel and winning the Match.

Hani Jawhari unleashes the beast that is Epurrely Happiness, drawing this Match to a spectacular close with just one Round left in Day 1!
