Round 1 Feature Match: Michael State vs. Christopher Brunner
Michael State from Orlando, Florida is Dueling against Christopher Brunner from Chicago, Illinois in this Round 1 Feature Match! State is using a Bystial Runick Deck that aims to overwhelm opponents by using card effects that constantly allow him to draw cards and add cards to his hand. He is also using the new Duality Quick-Play Spell Card from Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge to exchange Geri the Runick Fangs for The Fabled Unicore from his Extra Deck, swap The Bystial Lubellion for Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, or trade any of the Level 6 Bystial monsters in for Golden Cloud Beast – Malong. Brunner is using a Vanquish Soul Deck, packed with recently released cards from the Wild Survivors booster set. The Vanquish Soul monsters are spread across the FIRE, EARTH, and DARK Attributes and have a variety of effects that activate by revealing monsters of those Attributes from the hand. One of these Duelists will soon advance with a 1-0 record, while the other will have a rocky 0-1 start. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Brunner started off Duel 1 by Normal Summoning Vanquish Soul Razen and used its effect to add Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger to his hand. He used Heavy Borger’s effect to Special Summon it and return Razen to his hand. He revealed Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his hand to draw a card with Heavy Borger’s effect and then sent Heavy Borger to the Graveyard to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher. He used its effect to Special Summon Mad Love from his hand and then used Mad Love’s effect to add Vanquish Soul Dust Devil to his hand. He Set 3 cards to his Spell & Trap Card Zone before ending his turn.
State opened up Duel 1 with Dark Ruler No More, Runick Destruction, Runick Slumber, and two copies of Runick Freezing Curses in his hand. He drew Bystial Magnamhut for his turn and then activated Dark Ruler No More to negate the effects of Brunner’s monsters. Next, he activated the effect of the Magnamhut in his hand by targeting Heavy Borger in the Graveyard, and Brunner Chained Vanquish Soul – Continue?. State Chained Runick Destruction to destroy Brunner’s face-down Dust Devil and banish the top 4 cards of Brunner’s Deck. The effect of Continue resolved to Special Summon Heavy Borger in Attack Position and the Magnamhut remained in State’s hand. Next, State activated Freezing Curses to Special Summon Hugin from his Extra Deck and activated its effect to try to add a Runick Fountain to his hand; but when Brunner Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, State conceded.

Duel Two
State opened up Duel 2 with Runick Freezing Curses, Triple Tactics Talent, 2 copies of Bystial Magnamhut, and Guiding Quem, the Virtuous.
In the Draw Phase, Brunner activated the effect of Dimension Shifter by sending it to the Graveyard. State Special Summoned Magnamhut from his hand by banishing Dimension Shifter from Brunner’s Graveyard and then Normal Summoned Guiding Quem, the Virtuous. He Tuned them together to Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur. He Set Freezing Curses before entering his End Phase. In the End Phase, he added The Bystial Lubellion from his Deck to his hand with Magnamhut’s effect.
Brunner drew a card and passed.
State drew a Runick Slumber and then activated the effect of The Bystial Lubellion to add The Bystial Aluber to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and then tried to Special Summon Magnamhut from his hand by attempting to banish the Lubellion, but Brunner Chained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. State activated Triple Tactics Talent next, returning Bystial Druiswurm from Brunner’s hand to his Deck. Direct attacks from The Bystial Aluber and Baronne de Fleur dropped Brunner down to 3200 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, State activated Freezing Curses. He Special Summoned Hugin the Runick Wings from his Extra Deck and discarded Magnamhut to activate its effect. Brunner tried to stop it with Ash Blossom, but State used his Baronne’s effect to negate the activation of Ash Blossom’s effect. He added Runick Fountain to his hand and then Synchro Summoned Coral Dragon. He activated the Fountain, activated Slumber to Special Summon Geri the Runick Fangs, and then used his Fountain’s effect to return 2 Runick Spells from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw 2 cards. Next, State activated Runick Tip to add Freezing Curses to his hand and banished a Dimension Shifter from the top of State’s Deck. State Tuned Coral Dragon with Hugin to Synchro Summon Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign – Chengying next and drew a card with Coral’s effect.
Brunner drew a card and State used the effect of his Baronne in the Standy Phase to exchange it for a Magnamhut in his Graveyard. He used his Magnamhut’s effect when it hit the field. Brunner Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and activated its effect to add another Fenrir from his Deck to his hand. That prompted State to activate Runick Dispelling. With more cards getting banished from Brunner’s Deck and Chengying’s effect about to activate, Brunner conceded.

Duel Three
Brunner started off Duel 3 by Special Summoning Kashtira Fenrir and used its effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand.
Next, he activated Stake your Soul!, but State negated its effect with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Brunner Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.
State drew Freezing curses and added it to his hand of The Bystial Aluber, Guiding Quem, Runick Tip, and Dark Ruler No More. He Normal Summoned Guiding Quem and activated its effect, but lost out to Brunner’s Ash Blossom. Next, State used Freezing Curses to Special Summon Hugin from his Extra Deck and discarded The Bystial Aluber to add a Runick Fountain from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Fountain and then used Runick Tip to add Runick Slumber from his Deck to his hand and banish a Vanquish Soul Razen from the top of Brunner’s Deck. State Tuned Guiding Quem with Hugin to Synchro Summon Coral Dragon next and then activated Slumber to Special Summon another Geri. He tried to use his Fountain’s effect to draw 3 cards, but Brunner Chained Cosmic Cyclone and paid 1000 Life Points to banish the Fountain! State Tuned Coral Dragon with Geri to Summon Baronne de Fleur and drew The Bystial Lubellion with Coral Dragon’s effect. He activated Lubellion’s effect to add Magnamhut to his hand and then Special Summoned the Magnamhut by banishing Geri from his Graveyard. He activated the Magnamhut’s effect and then Tributed it to Special Summon The Bystial Lubellion from his Graveyard. He placed Branded Regained from his Deck onto his field with Lubellion’s effect and then used his Baronne’s effect to destroy Fenrir. He skipped his Battle Phase due to the effects of his Runick cards, and in the End Phase, State added a Druiswurm from his Deck to his hand.
Brunner drew a card and conceded, outmatched by State’s cards and unable to last through another one of State’s turns.
