Round 11 Feature Match: Jermaine Leach vs. Nicolas Ortiz

July 9th, 2023

Jermaine Leach from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is Dueling against Nicolas Ortiz from Tampa, Florida in our Round 11 Feature Match! Both Duelists have a 7-2-1 record, so they’ll need a win in this Swiss Round in order to maintain hope for a Top Cut finish. Leach is using a Cyber Dragon Deck this weekend! Cyber Dragon is a popular card, but it has fallen out of favor among competitive Duelists. Leach, however, still believes in his Cyber Dragon Deck, which is capable of taking quick wins by dealing over 8000 points of damage in one turn. He’s using a ton of cool tech cards like Electromagnetic Turtle, Inferno Reckless Summoning, Duality, Artifact Durendal, and Number 67: Pair-a-Dice Smasher. Nicolas Ortiz is primarily relying on a Labrynth strategy, but also several Bystial monsters and Kashtira Fenrir to help boost his Deck’s strength. We’ll soon see which Deck will prevail! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Ortiz chose to go first and activated Pot of Prosperity by banishing 6 cards from his Extra Deck face-down.

Nicolas Ortiz

He excavated Bystial Magnamhut, Kashtira Fenrir, Nibiru, the Primal Being, Welcome Labrynth, Labrynth Cooclock, and Labrynth Chandraglier from his Deck with its effect. He added the Welcome Labrynth to his hand and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Leach opened up with Cyber Emergency, Forbidden Droplet, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Cyber Dragon Core, and Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju. He drew Cyber Dragon Nachster and then Normal Summoned Core from his hand. He activated its effect to add Cyberdark Realm to his hand and then activated it. He added Cyberdark Chimera from his Deck to his hand with its effect and then Normal Summoned it thanks to the effect of his Realm. He activated the Chimera’s effect by discarding Forbidden Droplet from his hand. That allowed him to add Power Bond from his Deck to his hand and Fusion Summon by using monsters from his Graveyard as Fusion Materials later in the turn. He sent Core and Chimera to his Graveyard to Link Summon Cyber Dragon Sieger next. Then he activated Cyber Emergency to add Cyber Dragon Herz to his hand. Finally, he activated Power Bond! Ortiz Chained Bystial Magnamhut’s effect to banish Core from the Graveyard and Special Summon Magnamhut, and then Power Bond resolved! Leach fused Herz and Nachster together from his hand to Summon Chimeratech Rampage Dragon! He used the effect of Rampage Dragon to target Ortiz’s two back row cards and Chained Hertz’s effect. Ortiz Chained Magnamhut’s effect to allow him to add a Dragon from his Deck to his hand in the End Phase and then Chained Welcome Labrynth. Leach Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand to negate the effect of Welcome Labrynth, and Ortiz Chained Terrors of the Overroot! Overroot sent the Chimeratech to the Graveyard and put the Ash Blossom face-down on Leach’s field in its place. After the Chain resolved, Leach Special Summoned Nachster by discarding Jizukiru from his hand. He Special Summoned Rampage Dragon from his Graveyard with its effect, and Ortiz used the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being! Leach lost all of his face-up monsters, and when Ortiz Summoned the Nibiru, Leach got a Primal Being Token with 6900 ATK and 3800 DEF. In the End Phase, Ortiz added Fallen of Albaz from his Deck to his hand with the Magnamhut’s effect that he activated earlier in the turn.

Ortiz activated the effect of a Bystial Druiswurm in his hand to banish a Rampage Dragon from Leach’s Graveyard and Special Summon the Druiswurm. He attacked and destroyed the face-down Ash Blossom with his Druiswurm and then sent Druiswurm and Nibiru to the Graveyard in Main Phase 2 to Link Summon Muckraker From the Underworld. He used Druiswurm’s effect to remove the Primal Being Token from the field and passed his turn.

Leach drew Cyber Emergency with no cards left in his hand! He activated it to add Cyber Dragon Core to his hand and then Normal Summoned the Core! He activated its effect, but lost out to Effect Veiler. He fused the Core with Ortiz’s Muckraker to Summon Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon from his Extra Deck and then attacked directly with it.

Ortiz Set a card to his back row and passed.

Leach drew Cyber Eltanin and attacked directly with the Megafleet, dropping Ortiz down to 3200 Life Points. In the End Phase, Ortiz activated Big Welcome Labrynth to Special Summon Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck and return it to his hand. Then he used the effect of the Welcome Labrynth in his Graveyard to Set it, and then used the effect of his Lady Labrynth in the hand to Special Summon it back to his field.

Ortiz activated Welcome Labrynth and Chained the effect of his Lady Labrynth. He Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Deck and Special Summoned Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle. He banished Big Welcome Labrynth from his Graveyard to return Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon to Leach’s Extra Deck and then used the effect Lovely Labrynth to destroy the Cyber Eltanin in Leach’s hand. He then used Lovely Labrynth’s effect to Set Terrors of the Overroot from his Graveyard to his field. He switched Lady Labrynth into Attack Position and then direct attacks from Lovely Labrynth and Lady Labrynth finished Leach off!

Nicolas Ortiz wins the first Duel against Jermaine Leach and his Cyber Dragons!

Duel Two

Leach opened up Duel 2 with Cyber Dragon Herz, Cyber Dragon Nachster, Cyber Repair Plant, Forbidden Droplet, and Clockwork Night.

Jermaine Leach

He activated the effect of Nachster in his hand to Special Summon it by discarding Herz. He used Herz’s effect to add Cyber Dragon from his Deck to his hand and then activated Cyber Repair Plant. He added Cyber Dragon Core from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it. He activated its effect to add Cybernetic Overflow from his Deck to his hand and then sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cyber Dragon Sieger. He Set Droplet and Overflow to his back row and then activated Clockwork Night before ending his turn. In the End Phase, Ortiz used the effect of the Magnamhut in his hand to Special Summon it by banishing Core from Leach’s Graveyard. He activated the Magnamhut’s effect and then used the effect of Stovie Torbie in his hand to discard it along with Big Welcome Labrynth and Set Welcome Labrynth from his Deck to his field. Next, he Special Summoned Lady Labrynth from his hand. Finally, he added Bystial Druiswurm to his hand in the End Phase with his Magnamhut’s previously activated effect. He Special Summoned the Druiswurm by banishing Herz from Ortiz’s Graveyard before the turn passed to him.

Ortiz sent his 2 Bystials to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Azalea. He used the effects of Azalea and Druiswurm to target a face-down Cybernet Overflow and the Sieger respectively. Leach Chained the Cybernetic Overflow, Ortiz Chained Lady Labrynth’s effect, Leach Chained Forbidden Droplet by sending Sieger to the Graveyard, and Ortiz Chained Big Welcome Labrynth to Special Summon Chandraglier from his Deck and return Lady Labrynth to his hand. As the Chain resolved, Chandraglier Azalea, and Cybernetic Overflow were destroyed. Leach added Cyber Emergency to his hand with the effect of his destroyed Overflow and Ortiz used Labrynth Stovie Torbie’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. Ortiz Special Summoned Lady Labrynth from his hand next, and then sent Lady Labrynth and Stovie Torbie to the Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Angel from his Extra Deck! He used its effect to banish Clockwork Night and attacked directly, dropping Leach down to 4500 Life Points. Ortiz used his Stovie Torbie’s effect to send it to the Graveyard along with an Eradicator Epidemic Virus in his hand and Set Welcome Labrynth from his Deck.

Leach drew another Cyber Emergency next turn and activated it to add Cyber Eltanin to his hand. He banished Sieger from his Graveyard to Special Summon it and sent Chaos Angel to the Graveyard with its effect. Next, he Tributed Eltanin to Summon Cyber Dragon and attacked directly. Ortiz dropped down to 5900 Life Points, and in the End Phase, he flipped Welcome Labrynth to Special Summon Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck. He banished Big Welcome Labrynth from his Graveyard next in order to return Cyber Dragon to Leach’s hand, and then used the effects of Lovely Labrynth, Stovie Torbie, and Chandraglier. He destroyed Cyber Dragon from Leach’s hand, Special Summoned Stovie Torbie to his field, and returned the Chandraglier from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated the Stovie Torbie’s other effect next, and Leach extended the handshake.

Nicolas Ortiz takes a 2-0 victory over Cyber Dragons with his Bystial Labrynth Deck!
