Round 2 Feature Match: Nicholas Petzold vs. Rodolfo Rosete Alcantara

Nicholas Petzold from Austin, TX is Dueling against Rodolfo Rosete Alcantara from Queretaro, Mexico in this Round 2 Feature Match of the July 2023 Remote Duel Extravaganza Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Main Event! Both of these Duelists are currently 1-0 in the tournament, but while Rosete is using a more conventional Kashtira Deck, Petzold is entrusting his Marincess Deck to bring him to victory! One of these Duelists will be able to advance with a 2-0 record! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Petzold started off Duel 1 by activating Pot of Desires! He banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down and drew 2 more cards from his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned Marincess Basilalima. Rosete activated the effect of his Dimension Shifter in his hand, and Petzold then used his Basilalima to Link Summon Marincess Sea Angel. He used Sea Angel’s effect to add Marincess Dive to his hand. He activated Triple Tactics Talent next, using its effect to look at Rosete’s hand and return a card to the Deck. He revealed 2 copies of Pot of Prosperity, a Book of Eclipse, and a Triple Tactics Talent. He returned the Book of Eclipse to the Deck and then Set a card to his back row before passing.

Rosete banished 6 cards from his Extra Deck face-down to activate Pot of Prosperity and excavated the top 6 cards of his Deck. He added Pressured Planet Wraitsoth to his hand and returned the other 5 cards to the bottom of his Deck. He activated Wraitsoth and used its effect to add Kashtira Unicorn to his hand. He Special Summoned it, prompting Petzold to flip Book of Moon to put the Unicorn face-down! Rosete passed his turn.

Petzold Normal Summoned Marincess Springirl and then sent Springirl and Sea Angel to the Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Coral Anemone. He activated Springirl’s effect to send Marincess Pascalus from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and inflict 200 points of damage to Rosete’s Life Points. Next, he used Coral Anemone’s effect to Special Summon Pascalus from his Graveyard. He used Pascalus’s effect to Special Summon a Springirl and then combined Pascalus and Springirl to Xyz Summon Bahamut Shark. He used Shark’s effect to Special Summon a Toadally Awesome and then sent Coral Anemone and Bahamut Shark to the Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Marbled Rock. He used Coral Anemone’s effect to return a Springirl from his Graveyard to his hand and then used Marbled Rock’s effect to return another Springirl from his Graveyard to his hand. He Special Summoned a Springirl from his hand with its effect by banishing a Sea Angel and then used the Springirl to Link Summon Marincess Blue Slug. He used Blue Slug’s effect to add a Springirl to his hand and then sent Blue Slug and Marbled Rock to his Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Great Bubble Reef. He attacked and destroyed Unicorn with Bubble Reef in the Battle Phase and then Toadally Awesome attacked directly to drop Rosete down to 5600 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Petzold Set a card to his back row before passing.

Rosete drew a card and Petzold drew a card with his Bubble Reef’s effect in the Standby Phase. In his Main Phase, Rosete activated Pot of Prosperity by banishing 3 cards face-down from his Extra Deck. He added a Kashtira Unicorn to his hand and then Special Summoned a Fenrir from his hand. He activated its effect, and Petzold used his Toadally Awesome’s effect to negate the activation of its effect and Set the Fenrir to his own field. He then used Toadally Awesome’s effect to return a Pascalus from his Graveyard to his hand. Rosete used Triple Tactics Talent to return a Nibiru, the Primal Being from Petzold’s hand to his Deck and then Special Summoned Unicorn. He activated it is effect, but Petzold flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate its effect! With his Unicorn’s effect negated, Rosete conceded!

Duel Two

Rosete used Pot of Prosperity to add a Kashtira Unicorn to his hand and then Special Summoned it to his field. He used its effect to add Kashtira Birth to his hand and then activated Kashtiratheosis to target his Unicorn and Special Summon a Kashtira Fenrir from his Deck. He used Fenrir’s effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand and then used Riseheart’s effect to banish a Birth from his Deck, banish the top 3 cards of Petzold’s Deck face-down, and increase his Riseheart’s Level to 7. He combined all 3 of his monsters to Xyz Summon Kashtira Arise-Heart in Defense Position and then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Petzold entered his Battle Phase and then activated Evenly Matched from his hand at the end of the Battle Phase. Rosete kept his Arise-Heart and banished his 2 face-down cards. He used Arise-Heart’s effect to give it an Xyz Material – Infinitrack Goliath – from the banished zone. Next, Rosete used Pot of Desires. He banished 10 cards face-down from his Deck to draw 2 cards, once again allowing Arise-Heart’s effect to give it an Xyz Material. Petzold Set 1 card face-down and passed his turn. In his End Phase, Rosete banished Petzold’s face-down card with Arise-Heart’s effect and gave his Arise-Heart another Xyz Material with its effect.

Rosete activated Pressured Planet Wraitsoth and tried to use its effect, but lost out to Petzold’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Rosete then activated Triple Tactics Talent to look at Petzold’s hand and return a card to his Deck. Rosete followed up by activating Kashtira Birth and used it to Special Summon Kashtira Fenrir from his Graveyard. He activated its effect to add a Kashtira Unicorn to his hand, Normal Summoned Unicorn with help from his face-up Birth, and then used Unicorn’s effect to add Kashtiratheosis to his hand. He activated the Kashtiratheosis to Special Summon Scareclaw Kashtira from his Deck and then direct attacks from all 4 of Rosete’s monsters finished Petzold off!

Rosete pushes the Match to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Petzold started off Duel 3 by Normal Summoning Marincess Basilalima and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Sea Angel. He activated Sea Angel’s effect to add Marincess Dive to his hand. He used Dive’s effect to Special Summon a Basilalima and then used his 2 monsters to Link Summon Marincess Coral Anemone. He used Coral Anemone’s effect to Special Summon another Marincess monster and then sent his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Coral Triangle. Next, he used Coral Anemone’s effect to add Basalima from his Graveyard back to his hand and discarded it with Coral Triangle’s effect to add Marincess Wave to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Rosete drew a card and Petzold flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance in the Draw Phase! He entered his Battle Phase and then activated Evenly Matched at the end of the Battle Phase! Petzold kept his Coral Triangle and banished his other 2 cards, including the Anti-Spell Fragrance, face-down. In Main Phase 2, Rosete Special Summoned Kashtira Unicorn and activated its effect; but Petzold activated Marincess Wave from his hand to negate its effect and make his Link Monster unaffected by card effects for the turn! Rosete activated Kashtira Birth next and Normal Summoned Kashtira Fenrir from his hand without Tribute thanks to his Birth’s effect. He activated his Fenrir’s effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he combined his Fenrir with his Unicorn to Xyz Summon Kashtira Shangri-Ira in Defense Position and Set a card to his back row.

Petzold drew a card and Rosete used his Shangri-Ira’s effect in the Standby Phase to Special Summon Kashtira Fenrir from his Deck in Defense Position. Petzold continued his turn by Normal Summoning Marincess Blue Tang. He sent it to his Graveyard along with Coral Triangle to Link Summon the Link-4 Marincess Great Bubble Reef and then used his Blue Tang’s effect to add Marincess Springirl to his hand. On its resolution, Rosete used the effect of his Kashtira Fenrir to banish Great Bubble Reef face-down. Next, he used Shangri-Ira’s effect to block one of Petzold’s Main Monster Zones. Next, Petzold used his Coral Triangle’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon 2 Sea Angel and Coral Anemone from his Graveyard and used Coral Anemone’s effect to try to Special Summon Blue Tang from his Graveyard; but and Rosete flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate the Coral Anemone’s effect. Next, Petzold Special Summoned Springirl from his hand. He sent Springirl to the Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Blue Slug and then returned Springirl to his hand with Blue Slug’s effect. He sent the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard and inflicted 200 points of damage to Rosete’s Life Points with Springirl’s effect. Next, he sent Sea Angel and Blue Slug to the Graveyard to Link Summon Splash Mage and used Splash Mage’s effect to Special Summon Springirl back from his Graveyard. He sent Springirl to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sea Angel next, and used Sea Angel’s effect to add Marincess Battle Ocean to his hand. He sent Sea Angel and Splash Mage to the Graveyard to Link Summon Marincess Marbled Rock and used its effect to add Marincess Wave back to his hand. He activated Battle Ocean next, and Rosete used his Birth’s effect to banish a Sea Horse and 2 other Marincess Effect Monsters face-down from Petzold’s Graveyard. He used Shangri-Ira’s effect to block another Main Monster Zone and then Petzold Link Summoned Marincess Aqua Argonaut! He returned a Marincess Dive to his hand with Coral Anemone’s effect and equipped his Aqua Argonaut with 3 Link Monsters from his Graveyard with his Battle Ocean! He then activated Dive to Special Summon Marincess Blue Tang from his Deck. He used its effect to send Marincess Pascalus from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used Aqua Argonaut’s effect to return Shangri-Ira to the Extra Deck and his Blue Tang to his hand. He attacked and destroyed Fenrir with Aqua Argonaut and then ended his turn.

Rosete Set a card to his back row and then passed without making any other play.

Petzold drew a card and then Normal Summoned Blue Tang. He used its effect to send Springirl from his Deck to his Graveyard and then Link Summoned Blue Slug by sending Blue Tang to the Graveyard. He used Blue Tang’s effect to add a Marincess Sea Horse from the top 3 cards of his Deck to his hand and used Blue Slug’s effect to add a Springirl from his Graveyard to his hand. He added Pascalus’s effect in his Graveyard to banish it and return Marincess Dive from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he used Dive to Special Summon Marincess Mandarin. He Link Summoned Coral Anemone next by sending Mandarin and Blue Slug to the Graveyard, and used its effect to Special Summon Blue Tang from his Graveyard. He entered his Battle Phase and then attacked directly with all of his monsters to wipe out Rosete’s Life Points!
