Round 7 Feature Match: Jeremy Mitchell vs. Jose Santiago Torres
We’re heading into Round 7 with one of highest ranked Purrely players in the event so far! Jose Santiago Torres, from Lowell, MA, has been using these furry friends to finish with flair. His opponent is Jeremy Mitchell, from Jacksonville, FL, playing the tried and true Kashtira. It’s a powerful and consistent strategy, with many Duelists resting their hopes on the Deck.
Duel 1
Mitchell had a hand of Pot of Prosperity, 2 Kashtira Birth, Dimension Shifter, Triple Tactics Talent. He activated Pot of Prosperity, and Chained Dimension Shifter. Prosperity added Kashtira Riseheart to his hand. He Normal Summoned it, using its effect to banish Kashtira Unicorn from his Deck. He played Kashtira Birth, which Special Summoned Unicorn. He activated Unicorn’s effect to add Kashtiratheosis to his hand, and immediately played it. Santiago Torres negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. That triggered Unicorn’s other effect, and Mitchell got to see what Santiago Torres was playing by looking at the Extra Deck, eventually banishing Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder. He played Triple Tactics Talent next, looking at Santiago Torres’s hand: Dark Ruler No More, Droll & Lock Bird, Kashtira Fenrir, and Purrely Pretty Memory. He shuffled back Pretty Memory, locking his opponent out of his only Purrely card. Mitchell stacked Riseheart and Unicorn for Kashtira Shangri-Ira in Defense Position and passed.
In the Standby Phase, Mitchell activated Shangri-Ira to Special Summon Kashtira Fenrir in Defense Position. Santiago Torres Special Summoned his own Fenrir, moving to the Battle Phase. It attacked Mitchell’s Fenrir, and its effect banished the opposing Fenrir face-down. In Main Phase 2, he used Fenrir’s other effect to add another Fenrir to the hand.
Mitchell drew Terraforming. In the Standby Phase, he used Shangri-Ira’s effect, and Santiago Torres had another Ash Blossom. Then, his Fenrir activated and banished Mitchell’s Kashtira Birth face-down. Mitchell used Shangri-Ira to play Kashtira Arise-Heart. He played Terraforming to get Pressured Planet Wraitsoth. Terraforming was banished due to Arise-Heart, and Arise-Heart attached Kashtiratheosis to itself. He played his Field Spell and added Unicorn to his hand. He played his second Kashtira Birth. He used Arise-Heart’s effect to banish Santiago Torres’s Fenrir, and his Kashtiratheosis’s effect added Riseheart back to his hand. He Normal Summoned Unicorn, adding another Kashtiratheosis to his hand. He then Special Summoned Riseheart, banishing Fenrir from his Deck. Santiago Torres saw the writing on the wall and conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Santiago Torres played first this time. He played Purrely, but failed to excavate any Purrely cards with the effect. He played My Friend Purrely, paying 500 Life Points and revealing 2 Purrely Pretty Memory and 1 Purrely Delicious Memory, adding one of them to his hand at random. He played Delicious Memory targeting Purrely, using the effect to discard Triple Tactics Talent and Special Summon Purrelyly. Its effect added Stray Purrely Street to his hand, and he played it. He used Purrelyly’s effect, ranking it up into Epurrely Plump and attaching Delicious Memory to it. He played Pot of Prosperity next, banishing six cards, and added Purrely Sleepy Memory to his hand. He activated Sleepy Memory, then used Plump’s effect to attach it as a material. Sleepy Memory let him discard Nibiru, the Primal Being and Special Summon Purrely. For the second time this turn, Purrely failed to excavate any Purrely cards. Plump attached Pot of Prosperity to itself, and then he used Plump to play Expurrely Noir. He used both copies of Purrely to play Sylvan Princessprite. He detached a Purrely from Princessprite for its effect, adding Sleepy Memory to his hand. In the End Phase, he used Street to attach a Sleepy Memory to Noir.
Mitchell had a hand of Forbidden Lance, Dark Hole, Kashtira Unicorn, Book of Moon, and Pot of Prosperity. He drew another Unicorn. He Special Summoned it, and used its effect to add Kashtiratheosis to his hand. He played that, and Santiago Torres used Noir’s effect to put Unicorn on the bottom of the Deck. Mitchell played Pot of Prosperity, hoping to find something, but Santiago Torres had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Mitchell opted to move to the third Duel, knowing this one was essentially over.
Duel 3
Mitchell took the first turn for the final Duel. He had Kashtira Birth, Dimension Shifter, Terraforming, Kashtiratheosis, and Kashtira Unicorn. He Special Summoned Unicorn. He activated Unicorn and Chained Dimension Shifter – he added a second Birth to his hand. He played Terraforming to get Pressured Planet Wraitsoth, and played that to add Kashtira Riseheart. He Special Summoned Riseheart and used its effect, banishing Scareclaw Kashtira from his Deck, and banishing three cards from Santiago Torres’s Deck. Mitchell played Kashtiratheosis to Special Summon Kashtira Fenrir. When Kashtiratheosis was banished due to Dimension Shifter, it added Scareclaw Kashtira back to his hand. Fenrir searched for another Fenrir. He passed the turn.
Santiago Torres started with Book of Eclipse! Mitchell’s field was turned face-down, leaving Santiago Torres free to make his plays without triggering Kashtira effects. He Special Summoned his own Fenrir, which added a Fenrir to his hand. He Normal Summoned Purrelyly, which added My Friend Purrely to his hand. He played it, paying 500 Life Points for its effect to reveal three copies of Purrely Happy Memory, adding one to his hand. He played Delicious Memory, choosing Mitchell’s Set Riseheart to be protected from battle, then using the secondary effect to discard Dark Ruler No More to Special Summon Purrely. Its effect added another My Friend Purrely to his hand. He used Purrely’s effect with Happy Memory from his hand, to play Epurrely Happiness. He sent Happiness to attack Riseheart, which survived with its 2100 DEF. But Happiness’s effect let Santiago Torres search out a second Happy Memory. He played it and attached it to Happiness, which granted Happiness another attack during this Battle Phase. It attacked Riseheart again, repeating the process to get a third Happy Memory. He did the same thing again, this time searching for Purrely Pretty Memory. He played that to give each player 1000 Life Points, and attached it to Happiness. With its final attack, Happiness attacked Unicorn, and this time he searched for Stray Purrely Street. Finally, Fenrir attacked Riseheart and banished Unicorn face-down. He then used the effect granted by Pretty Memory, sending My Friend Purrely to attach Mitchell’s Set Fenrir to Happiness. He then upgraded Happiness into Expurrely Noir. Since this was a new monster, he was able to use the Pretty Memory effect again, and it attached Mitchell’s Pressured Planet Wraitsoth to itself. In the End Phase, Street attached Sleepy Memory to Noir. Santiago Torres ended the turn with an Expurrely Noir with 9 Xyz Materials!
Mitchell drew Unicorn. He played Birth, and Santiago Torres used Noir to put it on the bottom of the Deck. Mitchell played a second Birth, and Noir put that one away as well. Mitchell wanted to switch Riseheart to Attack Position and send it to lose in battle, which would clear his field and let him Special Summon Unicorn – but he couldn’t, since Riseheart was still being protected by the lingering effect of Delicious Memory! He had no options left, and offered the handshake!
