272 Duelists competed in this weekend’s Ultimate Time Wizard Tournament, and only 2 remain! Matt Kolenda from Chicago, Illinois is Dueling against Cairo King who flew in from South Korea to compete in this tournament. This Ultimate Time Wizard Tournament takes us back to the April 2010 card pool and Forbidden & Limited List, and the rules that applied to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME at that time are the ones that are applied for this tournament. Kolenda is using a “Vayu Turbo” Deck that focuses on using the effect of Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor to Summon powerful monsters that can help him win the Duel, whereas King is using a HERO Deck that uses Deep Sea Diva. Only the winner of this Match will be able to take home the GIANT Black Rose Dragon, so the stakes are high! It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Kolenda drew an opening hand of Mirror Force, Bottomless Trap Hole, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter and Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor.

He drew a second Vayu for his turn, as the rules permitted back in 2010. He Set the Hamster and Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his turn.

King Normal Summoned Spined Gillman and attacked Kolenda’s face-down Hamster. Its effect activated to Special Summon Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter from his Deck face-down and King Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Kolenda drew Trap Dustshoot and then Flip Summoned Ryko, targeting Spined Gillman with its effect. He destroyed the Gillman and sent Armageddon Knight, Solemn Judgment, and Blackwing – Sirocco the Dawn from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He switched his Hamster into Attack Position and attacked directly with Ryko and the Hamster. He Set Vayu in Main Phase 2 and then Set Trap Dustshoot and Mirror Force to his back row.

King Special Summoned Evil Hero Infernal Prodigy and Kolenta flipped Trap Dustshoot! King revealed Dark Armed Dragon, Bottomless Trap Hole, Caius the Shadow Monarch, and Mind Crush from his hand. Kolenda returned Caius to King’s Deck with the effect of his Dustshoot and then Evil Hero Infernal Prodigy attacked and destroyed Ryko.

Kolenda drew Dark Grepher! He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect by discarding Vayu from his hand. He sent Plaguespreader Zombie from his Deck to his Graveyard with its effect and then activated the effect of the Vayu in his Graveyard. He banished it along with a Sirocco in his Graveyard to Special Summon Blackwing Armed Wing from his Extra Deck and then returned the last card in his hand to the top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie from his Graveyard in Defense Position. He attacked Infernal Prodigy with Armed Wing to destroy it, and then direct attacks from Hamster and Dark Grepher dropped King down to 1800 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Kolenda Tuned his Armed Wing with Plaguespreader Zombie to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon.

King drew Allure of Darkness next turn and activated it, but after drawing 2 cards from his Deck, he conceded. He was destined to be defeated by the monsters on Kolenda’s field during the next turn of the Duel.

Duel Two

King started off Duel 2 by drawing a card for his turn and Normal Summoning Elemental HERO Stratos.

He used Stratos’s effect to add Destiny HERO – Malicious to his hand and then passed his turn.

Kolenda opened up Duel 2 with Allure of Darkness, Armageddon Knight, Dimensional Prison, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor. He drew Ryko for his turn and then activated Allure of Darkness to draw Royal Oppression and Dark Grepher from his Deck. He banished an Armageddon Knight from his hand with the Allure of Darkness’s effect and then Normal Summoned Dark Grepher. He activated its effect by discarding Vayu and sent a Sirocco from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Vayu and Siroco from his Graveyard with Vayu’s effect to Summon Blackwing Armed Wing from his Extra Deck and then attacked Stratos with Armed Wing to destroy it. He chose not to attack with Dark Grepher, fearing that King might have Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. He Set Royal Oppression and then ended his turn.

King activated Mind Control to take control of Dark Grepher and activated its effect by discarding Destiny HERO – Malicious. He sent Plaguespreader Zombie from his Deck to his Graveyard with its effect and then returned a card from his hand to the top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie from his Graveyard. He Tuned it with Dark Grepher, banishing the Plaguespreader from the Duel, and tried to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier; but Kolenda flipped Royal Oppression! He paid 800 Life Points to negate its Summon and King passed his turn!

Kolenda drew Plaguespreader Zombie and then attacked directly with Armed Wing. King dropped down to 5200 Life Points and Special Summoned Gorz from his hand along with an Emissary of Darkness Token! Kolenda Set Compulsory and Dimensional Prison, followed by Ryko, and ended his turn.

King switched his Emissary of Darkness Token into Attack Position and attacked Armed Wing, destroying both of them in battle. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Kolenda Flip Summoned Ryko and targeted Gorz with its effect; but King Chained Deck Devastation Virus! He Tributed Gorz, and Kolenda lost his Ryko and a Plaguespreader Zombie to the effect of the Virus. Kolenda sent three cards, including a Vayu, from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Ryko’s effect. He banished the Vayu and the Armed Wing from his Graveyard to Special Summon Blackwing Armor Master and King flipped Torrential Tribute to destroy it.

King Normal Summoned Dark Grepher and attacked with it, but his monster was banished by Kolenda’s Dimensional Prison.

Kolenda drew Brain Control and revealed it due to the effect of Deck Devastation Virus.

King drew a card and passed.

Kolenda drew a Super-Nimble Mega Hamster and sent it to the Graveyard due to the effect of Deck Devastation Virus.

King Set a card to his back row and passed his turn.

Kolendra drew Reinforcement of the Army and activated it to add Armageddon Knight to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to send Vayu from his Deck to his Graveyard. He attacked directly with his Armageddon Knight, dropping King down to 3800 Life Points.

King activated Miracle Fusion! Kolenda Chained the effect of his Royal Oppression by paying 800 Life Points, but King Chained Royal Decree to negate it! Kolenda Chained Compulsory Evacuation Device to return Armageddon Knight to his hand, and when Miracle Fusion resolved, King banished Brionac and Stratos from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Elemental HERO Absolute Zero! Absolute Zero attacked Kolenda directly, dropping him down to 3900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, King banished Destiny HERO – Malicious from his Graveyard to Special Summon another copy from his Deck and Set 2 cards to his back row.

Kolenda drew Sirocco and then activated Brain Control. He paid 800 Life Points to take control of Absolute Zero and put Sirocco from his hand on top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie. Next, he Normal Summoned Armageddon Knight and used its effect to send Sirocco from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated the effect of the Vayu in his Graveyard to banish it along with an Armor Master in his Graveyard and Special Summon Blackwing – Silverwind the Ascendant from his Extra Deck. He Tuned Plaguespreader Zombie with Armageddon Knight to Synchro Summon Goyo Guardian and then entered his Battle Phase! Goyo Guardian attacked and destroyed Malicious, and then Kolenda used his Goyo’s effect to Special Summon the Malicious to his field. Direct attacks from Silverwind the Ascendant and Absolute Zero finished King off!
