Welcome to the 2023 North America World Championship Qualifier!

July 7th, 2023

Last weekend, Europe chose their Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship representatives at the 2023 European World Championship Qualifier in Utrecht, Netherlands. Now, it’s North America’s turn to select its competitors!

Today, a select 32 Duelists will compete in a single-elimination tournament that will determine 2 of those competitors. Tomorrow and on Sunday, the remaining Duelists who were invited to compete in the North America World Championship Qualifier (NAWCQ) will battle it out for the honor of representing North America at this year’s World Championship in Tokyo, Japan. The Top 4 Duelists in this weekend’s competition will qualify to compete in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship, and will receive paid travel and accommodations to compete, in addition to other incredible prizes. Those 4 Duelists will join the 2 Duelists from today and make up a team of 6 Duelists to represent North America at this year’s most honorable tournament.

In order to compete in the NAWCQ this weekend, Duelists needed to earn an invitation by triumphing in a Regional Qualifier event or another event awarding an invitation to compete in the NAWCQ. While this is no easy feat for most Duelists, the 32 Duelists competing in today’s exclusive event managed to earn invitations over and over again. Here’s how qualification for today’s World Qualifying Points Playoff worked.

Players participating in events that award invitations to the NAWCQ can win World Qualifying Points for achieving a rank that awards an invitation. The better the competitor’s rank in the tournament, the more World Qualifying Points they receive. Players accumulated as many points as possible for the 2019-2022 Extended Season and then again in the 2022-2023 Season. The 16 Duelists with the most World Qualifying Points for the 2019-2022 Extended Season and the 16 Duelists with the most World Qualifying Points for the 2022-2023 Season are invited to participate in today’s exclusive single-elimination event. Check here for more information about World Qualifying Points.

Each of the 32 Duelists participating today will receive VIP Status with a 2-Round Bye for the NAWCQ starting on Saturday, as well as an Anotherverse Dragon prize card – but the real prize that these 32 Duelists have their eyes on is the invitation, travel, and accommodations to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World Championship 2023! Only the top 2 Duelists today will be awarded the honor of competing in the World Championship. The rest of them will need to try again tomorrow as they compete in a tournament against the thousands of other Duelists who earned an invitation to the NAWCQ.

The North America World Championship Qualifier is the pathway to the most prestigious Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Tournament of the year. The previous North America World Championship Qualifier was held in 2019, and Duelists since then have been eagerly awaiting its return. Now, after years of anticipation, many competing Duelists will finally have the chance to realize their dream of competing in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship. For all of the competitors who Dueled valiantly to earn their right to be here, it is finally time to Duel for a spot at the World Championship!
